the way. in fact, the heavy rain is just pushing through parkville. check it out on maryland's most powerful doppler radar. you can see once you head towards towson, that orange and yellow, it's actually even heavier and toting down the -- dotting down the jones falls expressway through downtown beltway, canton, fells point, you're soaked and towards glen burnie. it looks like annapolis, the cutoff of the real heavy rain as it slides south-to-north. we deal with this across the beltway at least for the next half-hour to 45 minutes but there will be more to come, 72 this afternoon and periods of thunderstorms. and perhaps even some localized flooding with up to three inches of rain before this system is done. right now let's check the roads with kim, they are already causing problems. >> that's right. the rain is not making for a fun monday morning commute. we're working one crash already on the bw parkway northbound at arundel mills circle. no word of lane closures yet. a couple of road hazards, flooding in the prince george's county area at route 50 and route 301.

keep that in mind. in colombia, snowden river parkway, the ramp to westbound route 100 continues to be closed because of an oil spill, not related to a crash, a truck started to leak oil. they are sending sand trucks out there. the traffic circle is closed also at this time. look at the shiny wet roads at the beltway. that means it will be slick, slick driving this morning. expect road spray, reduced visibility and not a fun ride. but no problems around 695 so far. we're looking pretty good at this time. back to you. today's the big day. today we get to play the one-armed bandits in cecil county on 95 by the big water tower in perryville. it sits our first-ever casino. linda so says we can start playing today. are you a penny or dollar woman? >> reporter: just give me the tokens, jamie. in just about two and a half hours maryland's first slots casino will be open for business. the casino in perryville is actually opening a little earlier than expected. it was originally supposed to open its doors this thursday.

but the casino got its license over the weekend after a successful trial run on saturday. more than a thousand people were invited to that closed-door charity event. it paves the way for maryland's first casino to open since voters approved slots nearly two years ago. the four other locations still have big hurdles before opening. the casino at arundel mills goes back to voters in november. operators at perryville say they are happy to be the first to open and provide hundreds of local jobs in a state of the art facility. the 35,000 square foot slots parlor in cecil county has 1,500 slot machines, two restaurants, all set with a hollywood movie back drop. the casino will officially open in about two hours, 8:00 this morning. grand opening ceremonies set for thursday. 5:34. police say a patient at a state mental hospital has been charged with killing another patient. authorities say that 46-year-old known as salim taylor has been charged in the

death of a 45-year-old woman susan sachs. found dead at the clifton perkins state hospital in jessup. police say she was strangled. over the weekend the action on the field took a back seat as harford county, a high school team there remembered their fallen teammate. >> number 30, number 30! >> fallston high school honored the memory of joey d' entremont. it was the first game on the field since the loss of their friend and teammate. >> i think the whole entire community is behind this fallston team and this fallston family right now. >> he was laid to rest last week.

5:36 now. a prominent preacher at an atlanta megachurch is vowing to fight allegations of sexual abuse that thrust him into the national spotlight. as abc's tj winick reports, bishop eddie long delivered a sermon sunday nobody expected a few days ago. >> reporter: the leader of one of the largest african-american churches in the world, he faced his congregation. >> i have never in my life portrayed myself as a perfect man. but i am not the man that's being portrayed -- on the television. [cheers] that is not me. that is not me. >> reporter: in a fourth lawsuit filed friday against the pastor, 22-year-old spencer legrande says he was 17 when the preacher first made advances. the young man said he had

intimate sexual contact and each night during a church trip to kenya and they slept in the same bed. >> i've been accused, i'm under attack. >> reporter: lawyers for the young men say he e-mailed these photos and other messages to teenagers in his youth ministry but say he chose boys who were above the legal age of consent. pastor long vows to fight the allegations. >> i am not going to try this case in the media. it will be tried in the court of justice. >> reporter: for now, some members of the congregation are in support. others not so much. >> bishop long should come out and deny the charges. let everybody know that hey, this is not true. >> 25,000 members are wondering what is going on. >> reporter: atlanta-area ministers have come together over the weekends saying they are praying for bishop long to get through this. tj winick, abc news. 5:38. scary moments on board a delta airlines plane. >> the pilot forced to make an emergency landing the drama captured in the

look at the heavy rain rotating through the region. we'll have periods of rain that may cut off for a few hours but year not done. this afternoon, thunderstorms and high of 72. kim? the drive times are up this morning because of the very wet roadways. drivers are kind of keeping their speeds down. we're working a handful of incidents around the area, mostly road hazards, especially in colombia, snowden river parkway and westbound route 100, that exit ramp is closed because of a fuel spill. we have reports of an object on the roadway, northbound on the jfx there at the beltway. northbound on the bw parkway at arundel mills circle, earlier crash blocking the right shoulder and just getting word of an accident, southbound 95 at the harford county line, this crash is blocking the two left lanes. linda so is in the studio following the latest on one of today's top stories. >> it's a brand new day for slots in maryland. i'm linda so. the state's first casino is set to open in a few hours. 33!!!!!!!!! tax on ez

news. an elderly black man beaten while fishing in a south baltimore park will be in court today, describing the attack. 77-year-old james privette will speak at the hearing. calvin locknear pleaded guilty to armed carjacking and first degree assault and agreed to a 31-year prison term. mayor stephanie rawlings-blake will join other city officials kicking off healthy city days. they will walk from city hall to the inner harbor for a ceremony at the amitheatre. the goal of the campaign is to encourage a healthy lifestyle, healthy choices by eating right and exercising. healthy city days runs through october 1st. komen maryland's race for the cure is sunday, october 3rd in hunt valley. abc2 news will be live on the air to broadcast the whole event. on sunday from 7:00 in the morning to 9:00. register for the big race at abc2news.com. when you get there click on

ravens, now with the steelers on sunday. you think it will be a good game? >> i think so. 5:49. we're checking out maryland's most powerful doppler radar. you can almost see the circulation here, a little influence in the atmosphere. this is not the low pressure itself but definitely pushing heavy rains rolling up anne arundel county now. glen burnie, south side of the beltway, wraps around the west side, bridges, up towards parkville to interchange with 83, south, jones falls expressway and north into baltimore county, up to timonium, hunt valley. you got that up towards pylesville and back towards westminster as well. so we're going to be dealing with this. there's more behind that. looks like one band of rain swinging through. there's more in southern maryland. on the wider view we're checking out a band of rain from the south and though it doesn't look that impressive we're in this environment where it may enhance upon itself as a frontal boundary is draped through the region. it looks like our front pushing through southern maryland.

we're on the cool side for most of today. once we shift the winds we'll get into the influence of tropical moisture trying to come up from the gulf of mexico. again, there's our front but the low pressure itself rides to our west and keeps us with that threat of -- look at the bands of heavy rain in the carolinas and back in through central and southern georgia. essentially a very rainy weather pattern. the heavier rain has yet to move in here. our forecast model indicating we may pump up thunderstorms by this afternoon, 4:00. and heavier bands of rain with the low pressure itself to the west. that tries to pivot through by tonight and tomorrow morning. could be a very wet ride. then we'll try to swing that front through the region and cut this band of rain off by late tomorrow on in through early wednesday morning. there's more from the south. some computer models indicating we could get three inches from the first band of rain and two to three inches with the second batch as a coastal system tries to hit us thursday and friday. for today, a wet day. just plan for that. periods of rain, localized flooding but there may also be a couple of hours rain-free.

we're aiming for 72 this afternoon. and mix of thunderstorms. tonight we slide back to 67, though temperatures may be steady or rising overnight with the push of warmer temperatures and shift of the winds. we'll get to 78, maybe near 80 if we can squeeze in sunshine but that is going to make for more heavy rain-producing thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. another batch of possible localized flooding. we try to dry out and get sunshine in wednesday at 74. watching the next system, thursday, friday, it looks like a coastal system, though one model in particular tries to push the storm inland and give us heavier rain. we'll watch that, temperatures in the mid-70s thursday and friday. then really cool things down into the 60s for highs by next weekend. let's check the roads with kim brown. >> the reports of the accident just in -- a quip synopsis, around the beltway, two accidents on the outer loop, one on the top side at the jfx, the second is reported to be between reisterstown road and 795. also an accident southbound 95

at the gunpowder/harford county line, that is reportedly blocking the two left lanes. northbound on the jfx at the beltway, an object on the roadway and aside from that, traffic is just moving fairly slowly already. 95 northbound from route 100 up to 395, 11 minutes. headed through howard county, southbound between i-70 to route 32, 12 minutes. on the southwest side of the outer loop, eight minutes between i-70 and 95. as we look at the cameras, in anne arundel county, this is 97 at route 100, traffic moves a lot better here, however, on the west side of that beltway on the outer loop at liberty road, you'll see the speeds down as the volume starts to build and the roads are definitely pretty slick. stay with us because we have more of your news, weather and traffic when "good morning maryland" returns. - ( music playing ) - we know technology can make you more connected.

tense moments in arizona. senator john mccain was leaving a televised debate last night. a protester waving a sign jumped in front of him chanting. a member of the senator's security team tackled the woman to the ground, where she kept chanting and yelling to the camera. she was among a group of peace activists, upset about mccain's stance about iraq and afghanistan. in wisconsin, roads washed out and a levee failing on the wisconsin river. the river is still rising. in this town 60 to 90 homes flooded out, some up to their roofs. one house split in two. in some parts of the state water levels receding and officials are surveying the damage. coming up next, thieves are using all kinds of ways to get to your personal information. >> coming up, joce sterman tells us about the latest scam to look out for. >> and all this week we're thinking pink. this morning we share tips on
