point. and the storm that that slapped us selle moved up and we will check with the other cities running for cover. good morning maryland i am jamie costello. >> and i am megan pringle. yesterday it was messy. and one of the longest days. we have the race for the cure on sunday. we will tell you more about that but justin berk has the friday weather. >> good morning. the rain is pulling out. but we had another round of heavy rain rolling in in the evening and really start the cut off around midnight. lasting into the early morning hours and eastern shore but for them, it is pulling out of here. we still have remnants of sprinkles in some areas. but overall we started to see the improvement from here on end. flood warnings extend until 9:45. but one of the highlights the tide at fort mchenry and they range up and down the bay but we had high tide at 12:44 this morning. 8:24 for low tide. so we are just a few hours away from the lowest point of the tidal swing and that's a natural surge pushing out of the bay.

that's good news helping to drain the water and lower the flood levels. anyplace along the harbor and chesapeake itself. here we go. rainfall totals at bwia. record for the date yesterday, the 30th of september, coming in with 6.02 inches. and we have the flood warning but we will have clearing and breezy setup. rainfall total across the region from evan in edgemere and annapolis over 9 dundalk about 5 1á. this's water out there to be had and problems for the traffic and here kim brown with the latest on that. >> reporter: is there still water out there? plenty of water to be found. but a quick head up. we have a disabled vehicle from northbound pairing parkway getting on outer loop possibly blocking the ramp. around baltimore city downed trees westbound northern parkway and falls road closed falls road smith avenue closed for flooding. also flooding has north point boulevard at cane street closed in baltimore city. 9 # and route 100 this is a quick list of some of the closures in ann arundal county because of flooding.

glen bernie, dorsey road and couple lanes are blocked because of high water. anders inry -- nursery road closed for flooding and annapolis, route 450 between crownsville road and housely road closed because of that high water. we have lots of closures in harford and baltimore county and we will get to those in a moment. megan and jamie back to you. the drenching tropical system that killed five people is making it a messy morning commute. >> some areas have been hit by nearly a foot of rain in less than 24 hours. let's go to abc with the latest with emily. >> reporter: along east coast people are discovering a storm doesn't need a name to be a record breaker. >> a lot of rain. >> this is incredible. i've never seen flooding like this. >> reporter: wilmington, north carolina got 22 1/2 inches of rain from what had been tropical storm nicole. nicole called fied as a tropical storm -- qualified as tropical storm for six hours.

time. >> reporter: it may make more progreg than the communities. emily schmidt abc news. 5:36. fells point festival brings out all walks of life, but the question this morning about the weekend. are they going to be paddling down. linda so is live. >> reporter: well, i've got good news this morning. things are look pretty good. i don't think the festival will be in jeopardy. let me explain why. this is wolf and thames street. road shut down. when we were here earlier, the water was a lot higher. i can tell you almost up to the cones. but over about an hour, it's receded and you can barely see that. that's good news. looks like the festival will not be in jeopardy. let's show you video overnight. big concern is when high tide hit which happened after midnight. all in all, the flooding could have been worse. you are dealing with flooded streets, but the rain has stopped. the big issue for people wake up this morning is any potential flooding they may deal with in

their homes or businesses. thames street was not built to handle more than 4 inches of rain but that's what it got. yesterday, cars were towed and people had to find other ways to get around. mayor is asking people to use common sent and don't walk or drive through deep puddles. now, again, even though the rain stopped, we are still dealing with a little bit of sprinkles this morning. not the heavy downpour but the good news at thames and wolf street in fells point, the water recede and you aren't dealing with flooding. the street had probably open -- be be reopened later this morning and any other problems you might be dealing with maybe the water that got into homes and businesses. live in fells point, linda so, abc2 now is. >> 5:37. the flooding problems that have led to schools and post delays this morning. right now, harford county public schools are in a two-hour delay. harford friend school will open at 10 a.m. monarch mont tear yes school a one hour delay and rosedale

baptist in baltimore county is on two-hour delay this morning. you can get latest on school delays and cancellation on the website or if you want more information on weather, just go to abc2news.com and you can find it on the home page. it's 5:38 and here's the latest on the deadly tourist bus crash in montgomery county. police say they found no mechanical problems that could have led to the accident. the driver was killed in and a dozen injured when the bus plunged on interstate 270 near bethesda during rush hour on wednesday. survivors say this was just a terrifying ordeal. >> everybody hurt on the ground. >> everyone laying down and bloody. no parents there was really scary. >> witnesses say the driver appeared to have a medical emergency and slumped over in the seat leaving the bus to swerve over the railing. state police say the bus fell more than 40 feet from a ramp on the washington beltway.

this morning we have school delays for you and also be aware of bel air road this morning. there a a he a large sink hole at old forge road in perry hall. sherrie johnson is live staring at a traffic mess. good morning, sherrie. >> reporter: imbued morning. we are here off bel air road where there's a large hole in the road and that has caused police to close the road down a portion of it. take a look behind me here. now the hole was reported about 9:00 last night after a pipe burst and water caused the erosion. crews have been working around

the clock just to repair that hole. police closed bel air at old forge lane for a 3 by 5 hole in the middle of the road. crews are putting the finishing touches on the hole. we had a chance to talk to workers a few moments ago. now, this is a temporary fix is what they are telling me. the crew plans to come back on sunday for a more permanent repair. now drivers should avoid this area and find alternate routes. crews expect the road to reopen around 6:30 this morning. that's basically what they are it will me. and they are putting the finishing touches on it right now. and this is a temporary thing. they will come back on sunday for a permanent repair of the reporting live sherrie johnson. >> the flooding problems led to schools to post days around the area this morning. so right now, harford county public schools are on a two- hour delay. harford friends school opening at 10 this morning. monarch mont teary school a one hour and rosedale baptist church in baltimore county is on a

heavy rain and gusty winds to 45 miles per hour overnight. that is improving this morning. 59 right now in york. and 57 hagerstown and 40s in western maryland. a sign of the chill trying to spill in. here the rainfall pushing up towards new york and new england and the area of low pressure and trailing cold front lapping in the cool northwesterly wind behind it a drying wind that taps into the clearing and what we build in by mid to late morning and into the afternoon. we should see a improvement throughout most of central maryland. and we have to set our sights on what's happening along the coast. because as we have the slow moving boundary, we also have this very, very cold pocket in the jet stream. that may actually stall out and help get another storm to form in the same location as we head through next week. forecast models pushing over towards new england and we dry out this after nan. the cool -- afternoon. the cool air spills in overnight and tomorrow a mostly sunny sky. but then, we watch this front and another storm off the coast
