sherrie johnson joins us with what police are charging the teens with. >> reporter: it's like something out of a movie. but play out in real life at a home on quayle run road in hurlock i'm cording to charging documents, katelyney kirchoff and williams came with up plan to kill her family charging documents saying kirchoff would be upstairs at the time of the shooting and she would supposed to leave the rear sliding glass door unlocked so collins could sneak in and shoot the family. the plot hit a snag when collins arrived at the home and the door was actually locked and police say he then fired shots through the door and nearly hitting the 6 family members inside. the gunfire forced family to hit the floor and duck for cover. charging documents say the mother karen kirchoff crawled to the kitchen phone and called 911. police focused on collin because he was arrest for entering the home night before. katelyn parents say she was a great kid with a bright future and didn't want her seeing

collins because they say he had a troubled past and was leading her down the wrong road. and the 16-year-old kirchoff and collins arrest on monday and face first and second degree murder attempts. charges they are both locked up on $500 bond. in the studios, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> thanks. look at news from around the nation now. a roller coaster ride took an unexpected twist for some thrill seekers. they went to the hospital. the roller coaster left ten people with minor injuries last night in los angeles when two cars on the pony express slammed into each other. the official say one car was rolled back from the boarding station into another car that people were getting into. right now, it's not clear what caused the ride to malfunction. more than 100 people held candles and marched through the streets of st. louis last night to call for an end to antigay bullying. it was organized by growing american youth which has been fighting for antibullying legislation for the last six

county one in bald wipe and one in white marsh. i will let you know how it will impact your commute in few moments. linda, back to you. >> now to a developing story in baltimore county. police found more than 3 million dollars in marijuana thanks to the nose of a neighbor. sherrie johnson is here to tell us how the operation was able to hide in plain sight for so long. >> reporter: thanks to a neighbor with a keen sense of smell, the drug operation came to a halt. this morning, joseph guadagnoli and two others they were growing a huge amount of marijuana in an industrial area off north point boulevard in baltimore county. inside the warehouse, police found hundreds of plants of marijuana and systems for heating, lighting, irrigation and ventilation. the power bill for the warehouse $1700 a month. and they also found 648 pounds of processed marijuana that was worth about $3.5 million.

it was hiden in crates lined with coffee ground to mask the odor balm tip from a neighbor to police brought down the operation. >>i just wish it was in a different neighborhood. i wish it didn't happen at all, really. >> there's families in here, there's elderly in here you know, as a rule we don't see anything like this happening around here. >> the the two adults in the case are out on bail right now. they face ten years in prison on drug distribution charges. the baltimore county state attorney is trying to increase the penalty given the amount of drugs found. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. thanks. new this morning, three staffers at clifton g perkins hospital retired following the death of a patient. police charge a male patient last month with first-degree murder in the death of susan sack. the hospital house mentally ill people. both the suspects and sacks were committed there after murder trials. the official say the man told the detectives he strangled

$100,000 in federal funding to help stop domestic violencech the organization in ten daubing has been struggling with the funding shortfall this year. a former victim of domestic violence talked about her ordeal with an abusive husband. >> the worst violence happened after our son was born. when my son was 3 1/2-month- old, just an infant, i knew it's to leave. it's no choice. i left our home with him in my arms, 78 dollars in my bank account and two suitcases. i was terrified and didn't know what i was going to do. the house of ruth was there for me when i needed help the most. the house of ruth and domestic violence. >> the federal funds were awarded through the stop violence against women act and the victims of crime act. police across maryland are using 12 questions to save. the lives domestic violence victims. only here on abc2news.com you

o'malley has an 11% lead over former governor bob ehrlich. meanwhile, ehrlich says he will wait a little longer before bringing in republican party heavy weights to stomp for him. ehrlich is trailing in the polls but he doesn't seem to worried. >> when you have 8 months of poll that are even and then one poll and goes oh, my lord and you know why, it tends to give you comfort level. you can fix it in the short-term. >> ehrlich says he will heckly call on friend former new york mayor giuliani to help campaign for him closer to election day. howard county executive ken alman has an 8 point lead over republican challenger. poll shows he has 49% to kidelman's 41%. with 10% still undecided. the campaign says the similar poll done this summer showed him with 62% margin over kidelman's 29%.

and remember you can get coapt on all the local and national candidates and their issues on democracy 2010 section. click on news tab on the home page at abc two news.com and click on the political tab. two teens are facing disciplinary action after school administrators say they beat a freshman student so bad that he had to be flown to shock trauma. it happened at south river high school in anne arundel county on wednesday. students say a freshman confronted an older boy who he accused of trying to take his ipod. other kids say the freshman was knocked out so cold and the right side of his face was bleeding. >> he started beating the kid with i don't know, everybody surround him and he teachers came and broke up the fight but he was unconscious. >> two seniors who were involved in the fight were arrested by a school resource officer. they are investigating to see if further disciplinary action will be taken.

all new this morning parts of the commercial building in washington, d.c. will smell a little smoky. a fire broke out on the third floor around 8 last night. investigators are still unsure of what caused the fire. no one was hurt. also in dc, officers want to know what led to a crash that killed a columbia woman on dupont circle as she celebrated her 24th birthday. she was getting out of her car around 2 yesterday morning when an s-uv hit her and kept going. she died several hours later at the hospital. >> she was very pleasant young girl, very optimistic. wanting to succeed in everything she could be. >> a man who says he came to celebrate the birthday jumped on his bike and chased the suv. he he was able to get the tag number. police tracked the car and towed away a lexus with front end damage. investigators say when police arrived, the woman sat in the

driver's seat and she was taken into custody and charged with dui. today, you will see federal agents on amtrak monitoring possible terror threats as part of a high security exercise in which uniformed officers will be a visible presence on national transit routes. program called rail safe will include local police agencies and amtrak's counterparts in europe and britain will hold a similar exercise. two years after a deadly medivac chopper crash in prince george's county, the federal aviation administration is pushing for safety rules. yesterday they proposed requiring new on board safety systems including a terrain warning system and stricter flight rules. it wants more training for pilots and crew. so far this year, 16 people have been killed in accidents involving medical helicopters. agriculture secretary was warned he may not have had the full story when he desighed to

48 as the daylight comes over the ridge and most of us in the upper 40s to the low a 50s this mork. up on 95, it warms in philidelphia at 52. 58 in new york and we have ourselves some really warm stuff down by norfolk at 64. but most of us in that upper 40 to 50 degree range underneath clear skies and that clear skies all thanks to high pressure that really extends back to a good chunk of the nation. 2/3 of the nation under the influence of dry quiet weather right now. high pressure locks in for couple days. we shift our winds and build in a little warmup as we head in through the weekend and early next week. you will like what you will see and it's going to continue for sometime. so if you missed one day or another, there will be plenty of time to catch us. today the two degree guaranteed high gets us 75. five above normal. tonight cool and iny. by daybreak 50. and heading to the race in hunt valley celebrating your style 5k a great start tomorrow and we are going for an afternoon temperature back up to 76 with

sunshine. 74 a good day to watch the ravens game on sunday and maybe columbus day take off. a few showers next week. kim. >> reporter: justin so far so good on the roadways on the 95 # corridor anyway. an earlier accident 95 northbound at the perryville tolls has been cleared and as we look in anne arundel county no problems on 97 north and southbound look pretty good. no issues also on route 100 the east west routes 132, route 175 good from howard to anne arundel county. the earlier crash at the tolls has been cleared. we do have several other incidents in baltimore county. an accident in baldwin that's going to be at baldwin mill road and lynch lane and debris is in the roadway from a crash on white marsh at honey grove boulevard. drivers need to keep their ice open for that. we had large trash bags on the outer loop at edmonton. traffic is moving pretty well, there. and howard county disabled
