. from mortgage mess to foreclosure freeze. homeowners close to losing their homes may get to stay a little longer. good evening i'm christian schaffer. more banks are putting the brakes on the foreclosure process to review paperwork that may be fraudulent. diana a has that story. >> reporter: the number of banks halting foreclosures is growing amid the revelation home owners were evicted with the blessing of bank officials who didn't bother to read the paperwork they were seek some called robo signers. >> they have been violating the law repeatedly. it's a lot cheaper and a lot quicker if they ignore the law.

but a quick acting teacher helped save their lives. sam champion spoke with the teacher who is being hailed as a hero. >> i thought i was looking at two dead boys. >> reporter: this is the spot where social science teacher ron hanson's life changed forever. >> to come out see two boys laying on their backs smoldering who's prepared for that? >> reporter: it happened during a sudden violent thunderstorm. he heard a clap of thunder and some screams. when he ran out of his classroom to see what happened, he found the unthinkable. two students and best friends 17-year-old alec lamb son and dane flat on their backs struck by lightning clothes and bond still smoldering. the lightning had stopped their hearts. >> i was in tears. >> reporter: instead of panicking ron sprang into as immediately administering cpr he dragged them back into school
