kicks off tomorrow morning. what to expect if you are taking part or sitting around watching the races. good morning, everyone. iment i am roosevelt leftwich. let's start off with justin berk. >> 5:30 on the clock and we are watching the storm crank up and pull away. it's going pick up the wind. so expect the wind machine to build in as you head into the afternoon and stick around for part of the baltimore running festival tomorrow. that cold air is actually going pull into the storm and may produce some significant snow in parts of new england where some spots have a winter storm watch. we will talk about that coming up. that means a clearing out and cooling process for us over the weekend. this morning, left with a fair amount of cloud around and 50 in chestertown. 45 in bel air and towson glen bernie and bowie at 48 degrees. and the winds are gusts averaging at about 15 miles per hour in many spots. again, we have a fair amount of cloud that will try to break up a few sprinkles possible, and i will hold out a better chance

for sprinkles and showers this afternoon. but two degree guaranteed high of 65 and winds about 30 miles per hour. right now let's see what's happening on the roads and what you will be pushing on the throttle. here kim brown. >> reporter: thanks. right now, you can actually do pretty well on the throttle make your way here on the harrisburg expressway. warren road, traffic is moving well in both direction. no problems on the beltway. 95 is also checking in pretty well. 795 no problems there. we have some road closures around parkville because of ongoing road repair on harford road and a fire haz majerle avenue closed in glen burnie. rosie, back to you. >> it's 5:32. the chilean miners are doing remarkably well after more than two months after ground. three mine verse been released from the hospital overnight. and more will go home today. emily schmidt has the latest. >> reporter: the first three of the 33 mineers who captured the world's attention found one way to avoid that attention last night. as a parade in front of the hospital distracted supporters,

the miners slipped out back to go home. that's step out of spotlight is likely brief. chilean reporters asked one miner does it make you happy the whole world was watching you? yes, he said. it made us cry. on the first full day out of the mine, spirits were visibly higher. doctors say the miners are progressing very well. one has new mown yo and others -- pneumonia and others need dental work but none has severe problems. next challenge is memories of two months trapped underground. down there in that mine, i learned to pray says the 28th rescued mines and says for the first two weeks the men ate less than soda cap full of salmon and tuna every two days. will only journal hoist spokes with the miners while trapped says the early days were filled with disagreement and disspare. >> they are fighting because some people wanted to try to climb out and some wanted to stay where they are. >> reporter: now they are known for their unity and swamped with

job offers and gifts. living as celebrities after 69 days of living with nearly nothing. >> the guys have been through so much. think that whatever they learn out of -- earn out of this it's not enough for living 10 weeks in a hole. >> reporter: doctors at the hospital where the remaining 30 miners spend night say most should be able to go home today. the rest by the end of the weekend. emily schmidt, abc news, washington. maryland state police investigating an apander murder-suicide saying 48-year-old steven focht was shot and killed on pilgrim lane by gregory martin a former neighbor. investigators say when focht got home from work he shot him several times and ran to the backyard where his former wife lived and killed himself. police say this is. >> the first time they have heard of the two men. >> state police responded in 2007 for dispute over mowing grass. and then again in 2008.

neither case resulted in any criminal prosecution of either of the individual, but we know that there had been a long-standing dispute between the two. >> the investigation is ongoing. authorities are trying to determine what caused a house fire in owens mills. crews were called to the home on tollgate road before 4:30 yesterday afternoon. flames were put out in less than two hours. no one was injured. city school teach rears jected a new contract proposal that would have made major changes in the way that the teachers are paid. right now, salaries are based on seniority and teaching degrees. the school system wants to make pay based on the quality of the teacher. dr. alonso has a news conference scheduled for 8:30 # this morning. and another place for you to do home improvement shopping a new's store opens this morning in baltimore county at the 1400 block of taylor avenue in towson. doors open at 7 a.m. maryland reported the first flu case of the season. health officials are urging

everyone to get vaccinated. health officials say the first case has been determined to be the swine flu strain involved in last year's pandemic. the first case involves an adult who was hospitalized but is recovering and they say this year's vaccine protects against that strain as well as two others expected tonight most prevalent this flu season. a chance to get sax neighed against the flu. harford county health department is conducting a drive through clinic today at ripkin stadium and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. you don't have to get out of your car. the charge is 20 bucks and payable by cash or check. for those with medicare part b, it's very free. a confederate flag is causing controversy in a southern town. what neighbors are saying about the choice of patriotism being displaced in their -- displayed in their neighborhood glee got a driver's license but didn't make it too far before having the first accident. watch this. bam! we will have that coming. now for a check on trains and bus running smoothly i hope.

here a mta mark jones. >> reporter: rail systems look good. marc operating on time on bus number 14 and 23 and 35 are running about 30 minutes late. and the 20, 36, 40, 46 and 47 buses 10 to 15 minutes hint. baltimore running festival will cause bus diversion and delays causing 23 bus lines in and around the city runners and public are urged to take light rail and metro subway and allow extra time for travel during the race. for the mta transit team, i am mark jones. bob ehrlich says he wants to fix maryland. but he increased state spending by record amounts. ehrlich raised $3 billion in taxes and fees... including property taxes... and a 40% increase in college tuition.

and now he's made over $1 billion in new promises... with no plans to pay for them... except for cutting education. cuts that will lay off teachers and increase class sizes. that's not a budget. and bob ehrlich's not the kind of leader... we can trust. imagine denying a pregnant woman the choice of health care providers. only one senator voted with big insurance over pregnant women: andy harris. protecting our bay? harris was the only one to vote against

city school teach rears jected a contract proposal make major changes the way they are paid. dr. andres alonso will hold a press conference. cheryl conner joins us live with more. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, teachers want more information on exactly what this contract means and more time to digest how it could impact their future in the classroom. now ceo -- city school c-eo scheduled the news conference for 8:30 this morning to make another appeal to teachers. right now teachers are paid

based on seniority and teaching degrees. the school system wants to make the pay based on perpom -- performance in the classroom. but yesterday teachers said no and 1107 said yes to the contract. education experts are from all over the country have been watching baltimore to see if the pay for performance system could work. advocates say there needs to be a better job of telling teachers what is in the contract. >> this is the right contract for the kid of our city. and what we need to do is communicate why it's so good to all of our teachers. >> i don't quite understand what's in the contract i don't understand the whole thing from vote a -- so i am voting no. >> reporter: and the current city teachers contract runs out in less than two weeks. so, there could be a revote in the near future. that news conference is scheduled for 8:30 this morning. we will be there . in the meantime if you want to read more on the full statement, it's on the website,

true nor'easter but get stuck for about a day drags down colder air. and some mountain snow expected. there's a winter storm watch of 2000 feet in vermont in northern new york. and perhaps snow mixed in with the next disturbance off the great lakes in syracuse new york and tomorrow. that's what's going on right there. basically we will watch the disturbance out of the great lakes. that could give us showers as we head in toward afternoon and behind that things dry out leading towards the weekend. we will watch a mixture of clouds and sun today. clouds take over this afternoon. with rain showers building in. and they will be few and far between but at least a sign of that system getting going off toward the northeast and that's when the winds crank as well. behind that, we still have to deal with the wind over the weekend on saturday. it will ease up on sunday. and if anything dry and few afternoon clouds. but most of it should be on the sunny side. but for today, we are going to call it partly sunny. and clouds will build with showers this afternoon. the wind start to crank up and we get to about 65 on the
