dr. william petit sitting in court listening to every detail of how his wife and daughters were murdered. >> i was really crying, crying for loss. michaela was an 11-year-old little girl, you know. tortured and killed in her own bedroom, you know, surround by stuffed animals. haley what great future. >> reporter: today, a verdict. death penalty. >> i was glad for the girls there was justice. >> reporter: three years ago in brutal home invasion, steven hayes and his alleged accomplice beat petit unconscious. at one point driving his wife jennifer to a local bank and forcing another withdraw $15,000. petit's family suffered sexual assaults before being killed when the home was set on fire.
