hit-and-run. it happened in coral gable over the weekend and police are looking for the driver who fled the scene following the crash. charlie crowson joins us with more this morning. charlie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. betsy and jim jones left maryland meetly after learning of the accident involving their son 21-year-old paul jones. now they are asking the person responsible to turn themselves in. jones is a junior at university of miami and according to witnesses, was crossing the street in coral gable when he was hit e was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition suffering from massive head trauma. >> unbearable. i can't put into words. we are watching my kids come in and look at their brother. it's just ripped us to shreds and please, if you can, ace said, the em-- be empathetic and come forward so we can have answers. >> reporter: shortly after saturday night's accident, reports out of florida indicate

jones was mistakenly pronounced dead. the hospital has changed that and he is in critical condition. some witness on the scene told police they got a partial license plate on the car. they added, the driver who police believe to be an elderly man in a silver sedan, stopped before fleeing the scene. charlie crowson, abc2 news. and we checked out paul jones facebook website. his best friend andrew lane left this comment. he says, please keep my best childhood friend jared paul jones in your thoughts. all i can do now is ask for everyone to keep him in their thoughts and hope he recovers. >> absolutely. it's 5:31. by the end of the first quarter, it was over. by the end of the game, let the debate begin. michael vick could be the mvp this year. vick and the eagles crushed and i mean crushed the washington redskins last night. 59 to 28.

four. sherrie johnson is live at towson u with more. what's going on. >> reporter: good morning. we are here live at towson university where faculity and students are on high alert after robberies on three different college campuses. now, last monday, there was a robbery here at towson university war woman was robbed while she was trying to make a deposit at an atm. and on thursday, a man held at gunpoint in a park lot at the ccbc essex campus took his wallet and friday three stewed antiloyola university were robbed in a parking lot when two men demanded money and jewelry. all three incidents triggered campus wide e-mails to students, faculity and staff. >> generally i feel safe around the campus them. new life around here everywhere. campus security is there. >> student need to be aware of that, and they have to be aware of their surroundings because of proximity to rough areas. >> reporter: now police

officers say they don't believe the different robberies are related and they, again, ask students and staff to be very familiar and vigilant during the time. reporting hive at towson university, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. mating season is underway and although tractor trailer driver overnight learned that the very hard way about how bad it can be. rig slammed into a deer in white oak in montgomery county around midnight on the capitol builtway near new hampshire avenue. the buck's horn punctured the tank and caused the gas to spill out on the road. hazmat cleaned up the spill and the driver was not injured. a woman's in critical condition this morning after the s up v she was riding -- suv she was riding in hate deer on the expressway. it happened late yesterday morning in the eastbound lanes of interstate 76. the suv hit the deer while it was mid-air. officers say the deer went into

the suv through the windshield and the vehicle spun around and came to rest facing the wrong way on the highway. police in the midwest and northeast say that there's sharp increase in the number of collisions between deer and car. and especially this time of year. last year, there were nearly 3,000 crashes statewide in pennsylvania involving deer resulting in more than 600 injuries and 5 fatalities. maryland department of natural resources says mating season started in late october. and it runs until mid-december and most deer are roaming around the times between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. a steady -- study last year by state farm shows the rate of carversous deer collisions in the united states has gone up by 18% in the last six years. >> all right it's 5:46. several bel air families are in need after a fire tore through the home. we showed outpictures yesterday. there's no word on what caused the fire in harford county. it started around two sunday afternoon at a town home in bel
