this video made at a beach house in delaware last summer where he was a lifeguard. now this active and outgoing young man is in jackson memorial hospital in coral gables, florida, in a coma, the victim of a hit-and-run driver. police say jones was crossing red road near the university of miami campus when witnesses say an elderly man driving a large oldsmobile hit him in the crosswalk. witnesses say the man got out of the car, looked at the victim and then drove off. his family is devastated by the news. >> getting ready to celebrate thanksgiving. we're going to miss him. for him to come down an see us. we would just like anyone with information to step forward >> reporter: a junior chemistry major, he's a 2008 graduate from loch raven high school. his mom says she just wants the person who hit this popular young man who realize what they've done and come forward. >> he's a great young man. he's an eagle scout.

of severna park and back across the lower part of the eastern shore. definitely looking wet out there now. let's show you a look at the current radar picture. up and down the east coast. active stuff. very wet weather, big storm, temperatures not that frigid at least but it's windy and it will continue to be wet through the day tomorrow. a slow climb back through the 50s, wet weather into the afternoon. i will say this, the sun will actually come out as we go after the morning hours, so that is probably a little pessimistic. more sun into the afternoon. we'll have much more on the forecast coming up in a couple of minutes. a baltimore police officer is out of a job tonight after turning up in the middle of a federal wiretap. according to officer keith nowlin's attorney the officer ran a license plate for the drug suspect which raised suspicions about nowlin. feds questioned him but haven't charged him. it was enough for city police to fire nowlin. with less than a year on the job and was on probation and according to police the allegations alone were reason

enough to fire him. >> the allegations are concerning. we work very hard not only to uphold the public safety but to really gain the public trust and if these allegations prove to be true incredibly egregious violation of that trust. >> the u.s. attorney's office had no comment on the case. it's unclear if they can or are willing to charge nowlin. tonight's maryland state police are investigating an apparent homicide after highway workers discovered a body along i-70. along i-35 crews noticed a box sitting near the mile marker 48, close to braddock mountain. the victim is described as an adult. police are asking anyone with information to call frederick county police, at 401-600-4151. the driver in a 2009 crash that injured u.s. soccer player charlie davies and killed his female passenger pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and drunk driving charges.

23-year-old maria espinosa of parksville faces up to 13 years in prison when sentenced in february. but sentencing guidelines suggest she will only spend closer to three or four years behind bars. 22-year-old ashley roberta of phoenix in baltimore county was killed. nearly a year ago there was a murder in annapolis. as the anniversary of the death of kenneth graham nears police are still without a suspect. don harrison has a look at the case and hopes you can help the family rest a little easier. >> 911, where is your emergency? >> reporter: it was almost 2:00 a.m. november 18, 2009 when that 911 call came into annapolis police. >> i'm not sure if the guy is dead or alive. he's laying down on the curb. >> reporter: ken graham was at the whiskey, a bar in the 1,800 block of west street most of the town. he was in town from california visiting friends.

he was set to fly back just two days later but around 1:30 he had a small argument with his girlfriend and left the bar. he was later found dead stabbed in the upper body a couple of miles away on skipper lane. detective john lee still looks at crime scene photos to see if he's missed something. >> we have exhausted every lead and interviewed every name and every witness that we could find in conjunction with this case. we are convinced that none of the people that we've interviewed to date are responsible for the homicide. >> i'm not sure if the guy is dead or alive. >> reporter: detective lee hopes someone can recognize the voice on the 911 call. they didn't get that person's name. if they can find them maybe that could help. >> he's laying down on the -- like, on the curb. i blew my horn to try to see if he was alive and he didn't - >> there's many theories on how this may have happened.

according to the national retail federation people in baltimore are shopping a lot more this season. the retail industry felt a strong improvement in sales in october and analysts credit competitive layaway plans that make purchases more of a reality for families. you know megabuff as the inexpensive alternative to get to philadelphia and new york and adding a few more cities to its route. next month the low-priced bus carrier will offer services to boston, buffalo and toronto. starting december 15th, buses will make two trips each way to buffalo and then to toronto. and two trips to and from boston each day with pickups in whitemarsh. officials say the earlier you

book the better possibility of that famous $1 seat. and hyundai's hope on wheels made a very generous donation today to johns hopkins pediatric oncology division. the automaker presented a $60,000 check to researchers to help fund a cure for childhood cancers. one cancer survivor talked about how important the money is to johns hopkins and the fight against childhood cancer. >> i sent a third of my -- spent a third of my life fighting cancer. to know one day there could be a cure -- hopkins is the best hospital in the country. i love the doctors here. >> my research is looking at ways to enhance the immune system's response against a tumor with a hope that will not only be a new novel treatment for pediatric cancer but that treatment hopefully carries less toxicity than conventional chemotherapy for children. >> some of the children treated at hopkins were on hand today

for that special check presentation. after months of extensive research careful planning and consideration, the college of notre-dame of maryland has an announcement to make. it's changing its name. lamont williams tells us what it is. >> reporter: the college of notre-dame has been a fixture on charles street in baltimore city since 1873. what started as a school to educate neglected poor girls and women by the school systems of notre-dame progressed to a four-year college in 1895. the campus is filled with excitement as it was announced the college would get a name change. >> it's who we are today as an institution. >> reporter: the name kept in secrecy until the announcement had everyone guessing. my curiosity got the best of me. >> you don't want to tell me the name before you get to the podium? ? sorry but if you hang on a few minutes you will find out >> reporter: the atmosphere was charged as alumnus and students mingled, ate cotton candy and popcorn. then the big moment game.

and west of this thing. and it's all going to continue to funnel its way right up here into maryland. so be ready for some wet weather. a tighter look at this on maryland's most powerful doppler radar, you can see where most of the wet stuff is and we put maryland's most powerful doppler radar in motion. a lot of this now in the lower eastern shore. heavy rain here over the open chesapeake moving toward kent island. you're about to get another round of pretty heavy rain, probably last you 10, 15 minutes. rain south of waldorf, more rain in western maryland. we start to see a few showers into the day thursday out here and some of this could mix with a few flakes in the higher terrain, hagerstown, westward toward frostburg but most of us will not see anything like that even toward the end of the week. dale -- daily rainfall totals, we picked up 1/4 inch in edgemere. in and out toward mount airy, germantown, chevy chase, more than a half-inch cxsgglue m. in some cases more than a half-inch of rain where some of the heaviest showers hit.
