south hanover street approaching well street. an earlier vehicle fire at 97 northbound near dorsey road continues to block the left shoulder. it's not impacting traffic too much at this time. now back to you. >> thanks, kim. in about an hour, people who live at the dutch village apartments will be able to return home to see what's left after the storm yesterday went through and caused so much disaster. sherrie johnson is live as people are starting to wake up. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, megan. we are live here at the friend shp academy of engineering and technology where many folks spent the night away from their bed. but we are talking about the people from dutch village apartments and town homes and they had to stay here because this is the temporary shelter because of heavy winds that damaged their homes yesterday. about 170 people stayed here or eventually found their way to the mount pleasant ice arena. many handled the difficult situation well keeping everything in perspectivech and while they waited --

folks spent the night away from the home. the comfort of their bed and they spent the night here. we are talking about the people at dutch vilage apartments and town homes. they had to stay here because the homes were severely damaged after the high wind yesterday morning. about 170 people actually tong advantage of the temporary shelter and they didn't expect to be spending the day at shelter budget they handled it as well as could be expected and while they waited they talked about what they saw and what they heard when that storm woke them up. the house-- >> the how started shake and i tipped this oaf and fell going into my more's room. >> everything went pitch black like being on the movie with dorothy. >> wizard of oz. >> just like the wizard 6 oz -- of oz. >> reporter: everybody had a different story about yesterday's storm. but later this morning, many of the folks will be able to return to their homes. on the other hand, some had such severe damage they won't be able to go home. those folks are asked to go to

the mount pleasant skating wrench because that's where city agencies, the american red cross will be there to offer support and information on housing and things of that nature. reporting live from northeast baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> some of the worst damage was not only in baltimore city but baltimore county suffered, too. abc2 news charlie crowson stumble on significant damage. how is it looking this morning. >> reporter: you know it's look better megan. yesterday, it was a story of the storm. and today, it is about recovery, cleanup and counting the blessings. you know, maryland governor o'malley said it was miraculous that no one was killed in the storm just three injured and one of them a child. as a sign here in parkville, of the people's faith in exactly what they were spared from, in the cleanup yesterday, one of the forestry service members carved this cross out of the stom from one of the uprooted trees and cleanup efforts will continue throughout thursday but before we show you where you are today, let's take look at some of the images from yesterday.

uprooted trees and roofs shorn off the stresses -- tress and many without power. we can report roughly 250 people in the baltimore city baltimore county area still without power this morning. a real test men to the crews from bge and what they have been out doing throughout the day. many people were calling the storm from yesterday and let's listen to what a few of them had to say. >> but it's unusual in this area because we usually don't have nothing like that. i been around here 17 years and i never had anything like this. >> i condition get into my front door. that is ripped sideways and we lost and awning and the neighbor's roof is in the backyard. we lost fences on both side of the house. >> reporter: those are some of the recollections from the storm wednesday. what you see this morning, though, a street here at forest avenue cleaned out completely. many of the homes most of the homes have power restored once again.
