get yours starting at 7am. subway. build your better breakfast. . we begin tonight with breaking news out of northwest baltimore. good evening, iment's joce sterman. police are on the scene of a barricade situation of the 25th00 block of edgecomb circle in the city. we go to cheryl connor with more. >> reporter: it is still a very active scene. we are right here on green spring avenue not far from sinai hospital and about three hours ago, s.w.a.t team and hostage negotiators moved in on a home where they believe a murder suspect may be located.

police are talking to someone who barricaded himself in the home after murder victim. it was around 3:35 this this morning when detectives found a body of a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest. she worked in baltimore in central booking. her body was found in a friend's home in the 1700 block of ashwood street and police are at the victim's home right now where they believe the suspect is possibly located. >> he barricaded himself inside the home, and we have reason to believe that he may hurt himself and just to secure the area, make sure neighbors are secure, we have to treat this situation as if he were armed. >> reporter: and police don't believe there are any hostages tonight. they say they found blood on the door where they believe the man, again, has possibly barricaded himself. they are not saying how this suspect and the victim know each other, but i did ask since the

victim works at maryland state corrections at central booking whether or not he was possibly a former inmate, and spokesman anthony guglielmi does not believe that is the case. we are in the 4800 block of green spring avenue and there are several city blocks that are blocked off tonight. we will bring you the latest at 11. cheryl connor, abc2 news. meanwhile, baltimore city police are also investigating a shooting that left a 19-year-old dead. it happened yesterday just after 5:30 p.m. in the area of swan and edmondson avenues. authorities are investigating an assault on a correctional officer at a housing unit at the carroll county detention center. the office was was hit with a chair and was punched with fists. the officer is hospitalized in

stanl condition. jennings is awaiting trial on burglary and theft charges. man is under arrest in murder of a man who was found in a box on wednesday morning. police have not yet released any details about a murder for -- for that murder. a police chase ends with a deadly crash in the calvert area of montgomery. it started when a man took their girlfriend's van with the 11-year-old girl inside. he dref on the wrong side of the road. he hit an suv, killing one man and injuring three others. . oh, boy, it was another nice weekend on tap for us. we did see lots of sunshine in the forecast and i have good news if you like the milder weather. that's coming. right now we're looking at the most powerful radar and nothing

the ace of cakes show has been cancelled. jennifer claybrook was 15 years old when she left her home for a run. her body was found days later but still more than two decades later her case continues to haunt detectives. we're going to try to crack open bun of maryland's cold cases, coming up. local families grow with the help of a special ceremony. national adoption day and we'll hear the story of one family's efforts to give the kids a permanent home they need.

. tonight we're continuing our series looking into maryland's cold cases. with the story of 15-year-old jennifer claybrook. she disappeared one march afternoon after telling her mom she was going out for a jog. here's abc 2 news's brian kuebler. [ singing ]. . >> reporter: at john carroll, every year, they remember the

memorial is peppered with the pictures of classmates and staff that have passed on. but in a town not used to making headlines, the story of jennifer claybrook refuses to fade. >> it shocked me. and it's still -- it's still overwhelming to me to think about it. >> reporter: patty murphy dawn is the administrator. as a teacher she knew every student and staff member. jenny is more than just a memory. it was the spring of 1983. >> they were in shock, just totally in shock. >> reporter: jennifer claybrook was that freshman at john carroll. your typical teen, always challenging her parents, constantly fought with her mom. sometimes even ran away. >> but without fail she always contacted mom. >> reporter: on the evening of march 4th, jenny told her mother she was going out for a run. as first when jenny didn't come

home her mother assumed she had run away again. 48 hours past and a normal childhood indiscretion became a panic. she called police. for four days they scoured the town looking for jenny. it was only by gut an officer found her. offduty the officer close to the investigation went out for a walk near where he knew jenny group would visit. >> we went walking in the area. he lived in the area to an abandoned property which was in close proximity to where jenny lived and that's where he found her. >> reporter: she was sitting lifeless against a fence, strangled. >> she had died from strangulation and basically was left there and and ban donned. >> reporter: detectives swam was one of the original investigators in the case. he remembers going out to the scene. it was a cold, rainy afternoon. >> i can guarantee you that the people there that day had hoped for a much different skwout come. >> reporter: in the days and

weeks that followed, detectives poured their resources into finding jenny's killer. they knew she was running with an older crowd, even adults. the group often partied in the same spot where jenny was found. >> immediately potential suspects began to emerge. >> reporter: detectives look at the way jenny was killed. she was strangled, choked to death and left in an upright position. it's usually a crime of passion, often the deadly result of an argument when the killer just plain snaps. >> what was the relationship was, something deteriorated for that moment. and emotional levels rose to where they were out of control. and then you know, minutes later, jennifer was dead. >> reporter: but after weeks turned into months and months into years, jenny's murder

remained unsolved. eventually her case went cold. >> the fact that it's a cold case means it happened a long time ago and we don't have an arrest, but it doesn't mean that we've forgotten about it. >> reporter: sergeant swam has left the detective and the case has been handed over to cold case detective ed smith. >> it's difficult. it's very difficult. it's an emotional thing. >> reporter: smith has invested himself into this case. often reading the case file at home, retracing every last step, following up every last lead. he often goes back to the scene. >> we're about 100 yards behind where the houses existed on maple view. >> reporter: hoping to find answers, answers to a case that continues to haunt detectives old and new. >> we have dreams for our children, and at 15, my gosh, you're at threshold of the rest of your life. and that was stolen from jennifer and stolen from her mother. >> reporter: stolen from a grieving mother, stolen from a

frame. this is what it looks like on the satellite radar, we have a cold front pushing through. it will bring in cooler air. that's the air on wednesday. we'll receive 54, the 50s, pretty seasonal. but another cold front behind that and that's where we'll get the cold blast. don't worry about that. we are going to get the warmer air or milder air moving in as we go into tomorrow and tuesday. accompanying that, though, we could be seeing some showers in the forecast as we head into tuesday afternoon. but nothing too heavy, just may be a sprinkle or two. here's the forecast for you, in the meantime, today, 6:00, things are dry, maybe a few clouds out there. as we head into monday, still more of the same and then tuesday we're looking at this stopping at 4:00 in the morning, just some more cloud cover, see back over my head here, yes, back towards the west, this is what could move in here as we go into tuesday evening so that's what i'm forecasting, maybe a shower or so as we go into let's say 7:00 in the evening. if you're still driving home at
