what's happening out west. we take you out of the area to montgomery county. you can see the fog build in over the last couple hours. watch the calvin roswell elementary school. haze and glaze around the street lights. dense fog advisories, basically eastern shore. queen ann's county southbound, over towards cambridge and salisbury, ocean city. calvert, st. mary's county. the fog is denser that way. traveling south on 95. you'll run into really thick fog pretty quick. areas of drizzle and fog, just not bad enough to produce an advisory. 45 to 50 this morning. we'll go for 61, little bit of sun, two-degree guarantee this afternoon. >> our earlier accidents have since been cleared away. we're keeping an eye on volume beginning to pick up as you make your way around the beltway. traffic beginning to slow just a little on the outer loop lanes as you head towards delaney

valley and towards the york road exits. nothing major to hold you up. as we look at the maps, we still have ongoing police activity, route 140, main street portion. cockeys mill road. also in annapolis, a haz-mat situation. we have a spill near the intersection of tyler avenue and hilltop lane, avoid that intersection for the time being. megan and charley, back to you. she was a mother and correctional officer, this morning baltimore city homicide detectives are trying to track down her killer. abc2 news sherrie johnson is live with more on why the murder investigation has kept officers out of the victim's home for several hours. >> reporter: police are looking for a person of interest in connection to the murder of a correction's officer found dead yesterday. now police began investigating what they called a barricade situation at the home of 28-year-old shawan jones. as police approached the home

off green spring avenue, they found blood on the door. jones was found murdered inside her friend's home. she was killed by a single gunshot wound to the upper body shortly after 3:00 sunday morning. investigators believe she knew her killer, but won't say how. >> homicide detectives saw blood on the door and then uh, had reason to believe the individual was inside. at that point they contacted swat units. >> the correction officer said in 2004 she worked in the pre-trial detention center area. she leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter. now as the peak of thanksgiving travel approaches, the uproar over more intense security screenings at the nation's security airports grows louder. travellers, ranging from the average tourist to our own secretary of state, not thrilled with those new rules. emily schmidt is in washington

with details. >> reporter: new airport security scans and pat downs have turned up at least one thing so far. a lot of frustrated passengers. >> the tsa is out of control. >> reporter: these pat downs are considered by many to be too close tomorrow comfort, too up to interpretation. one breast cancer survivor, a flight attendant tells this story. >> she put her full hand on my breast and said "what is this?" i said "a prothesis, i've had breast cancer." she says "you'll need to show me that." >> would you submit to one of these pat downs? >> not if i could avoid it. who would? >> the tsa worked over the weekend to convince passengers the measures are necessary. >> you have the option to request the pat down be conducted in a private room and have the option to have that pat down witnessed by a person of your choice. >> the tsa added airport screening procedures will be

adapted as conditions warrant. >> it hasn't changed any. i feel greater security with the scanners. >> there's an internet movement urging passengers to opt-out of body scans this week to slow security and prove a point to the tsa. >> the truth is, most travellers just want to get to their destination as fast as possible. >> one business group says travellers are bunched in the less security part of the airport. topping a look at news around the nation this morning: an 86-year-old woman was found shot to death in her bedroom in a nursing home. her 88-year-old husband arrested on suspicion of murder.

clara laird was found dead. the couple was married for nearly 70 years. police could give no information on the motive. a new jersey pastor admits to improper social networking himself. reverend miller says he broke a commandment about a decade ago. almost ten years ago, he had a three-way sexual relationship with his wife and a church assistant. in his 50-minute sermon sunday, he apologized for his past transgressions. >>, again -- i, again, ask for your forgiveness. >> miller reminded church leaders to shut down their own facebook accounts. he said it could lead to reconnections with past

relationships and destroy their marriages. former first lady barbara bush doesn't appear to think much of sarah palin's warehouse aspirations. she says the former alaska governor should stick to her home state. mrs. bush said that she sat next to palin once and thought she was beautiful. the outspoken wife of george h. w. bush said she seems happy in alaska and hopes she stays there. one of the planet's most magnificent creatures is on the verge of extinction. we're talking about tigers. there are more living in captivity in the united states than there are living in the wild across the entire world. a four-day tiger summit was kicked off in russia. there are 4200 tigers in the wild. the goal is to get 13 countries where tigers live to double the population in the next 12 years.

6:40. research finds a big drop in emergency room visits. now that cough and cold medicines for young kids have been removed from store shelves. the study presents a mixed bag. some parents still giving their infants and toddlers medicines.

parents haven't discarded old bottles after manufacturers voluntarily withdrew medicines in 2007. pope benedict xvi signalled the use of contraceptives. he said it was okay to use condoms in some cases, such as for male prostitutes trying to prevent the spread of hiv. they said they still do not advocate the use of condoms. we want to know what you think about this. it's one thing for adults to have to deal with awkward pat downs at airports. >> it's different when a child is exposed to it. we have surprising cell phone video of the latest controversy

shoulder. charley and megan, back to you. a gunman killed a maryland correction's officer. police are working to track down the trigger man. sherrie has more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, megan, that's right, officers are trying to find the person that killed the state correctional officer that was found dead yesterday. actually blood on the door led them to look inside an apartment that was off of green spring avenue. once they went inside, they didn't find anything. that was a three-hour barricade situation there. what they did find. police found shawan jones dead from a single gunshot wound to the upper body in her friend's home. police went to jones' home thinking a man was inside. no one was there when police finally entered. >> everything was blocked off. they evacuated our building. they left out everything.

>> now police say that jones knew her assailant. she leaves behind a 5 yearly daughter. new this morning: the boston globe's reporting that a missing 1-year-old -- 16-year-old boy's body has been found. tisdale's identity was confirmed last night through fingerprints. his father reported him missing last week. he was wanting to get back to the baltimore area but left north carolina and was headed to massachusetts with friend. detectives aren't saying how the teen dies. congressman frank kratovil was defeated by republican andy

harris. he says it can be traced to anger at president barack obama. the election was a referendum on his performance in office, he would have easily won. we know the name of the teen shot and killed in the area of swan and edmondson avenues. expect more water cooler debates about the tsa's new security measures we've been hearing a lot about this lately. this weekend, a video of a shirtless young boy being patted down at a utah airport was recorded and sent to the web. the boy is being patted down by a tsa officer. it's not clear what led tsa officials to pat the kid down.

they say the boy didn't set off any metal detectors. >> he tore the son's shirt off an gave and gave it to the is tsa agent. you'll have to deal with security screenings. more to add to your stress, you're going to run into a grassroots protest that wants to make a point. national opt-out day is urging travellers to refuse body scans, and forcing screeners to do those more consuming physical inspections. >> don't want people to be inconvenienced, but mainly don't

want them to be radiated and assaulted by tsa workers. >> the president is saying we should remember the underwear bomber. don't let your guard down. the church may be the last place you'd expect to find a collection of guns. but a buy back program was happening saturday. the priest there says that more people have found guns in their yards, they suspect from drug dealers or people just leaving them at scenes. so right now the church says dropping the gun off is like dropping it off a at a safe haven. >> these are guns that could be used in violent crimes and are used in violent crimes

throughout the city. >> city police officers processed the guns and destroy them. if you missed a drop-off on saturday, you can still turn your gun in at the church. st. louis missouri has overtaken camden missouri as the most dangerous city in 2009. st. louis had around 2,000 violent crimes per 100,000 residents. 129, detroit michigan and oakland, california rounded out the top 5. baltimore comes in at number 11. more than 75,000 residents. switching things to the nfl, the ravens needed defense to put away the carolina panthers yesterday. in a big way. 37-13 was your final. ravens leading 27-13. pitches the ball, trust me, this highlight's coming up in just a bit. to devonne landry for the score.

school delays on the eastern shore. advisories back towards the d.c. area as well. just a little cooler. the fog that much thicker. while we expect the push of warm air to come through with this warm front, that may spread more fog across our area. cool damp easterly flow this morning. on the other side of that boundary, that's where the warm-up is. we'll get into the warm-up the next couple days. you'll probably hear about this on good morning america, there's heavy snow and feet of snow across the colorado rockies, they had the ice problem with nearly 400 accidents across minnesota yesterday. while we expect to have periodic rain coming through, we'll have a taste of winter coming up next weekend. we'll turn warmer tonight. we'll pull it back down to 45.
