5:30. now for many of you, this is the week you fly out of town to see family. and some of you are expressing concern about the upclose and personal pack-downs -- pat downs at the security lines at the airport. you won't see much of a change before the thanksgiving holiday is over. john has the story. >> reporter: in the busiest travel week of the year, just how bad are the airport lines? we checked. in denver, 16 minutes. chicago, 7, dc, 5, and boston just 2 minutes. >> our fliers don't mind. >> reporter: why so short, the tsa says of the 2 million passengers who fly, less than 3% are getting pat undowns but many are frustrated over the pat-downs and inconvenience of airport security. >>i don't know they make us any safer. >> reporter: a abc news washington post poll finds half of americans thinks the

tbloin 2004. reports say by two women with brass packed with explosives. abc news, washington. >> during your holiday travel, you will likely run into a grass roots protest that wants to make a point over the tsa screenings we have been hearing about. an internet movement is urging passengers to on the out of body scans this weekend to showdown lines by refusing the scans and forcing screeners to do moore time consuming physical inspection. but most holiday travelers will put up with the extra attention to get where they want to go. 5:32. a traffic alert. the holiday rush begins tomorrow and if you must head up i-95 we have words of caution. be prepared for some major backups near the maryland delaware border. crews are doing construction at the newark toll plaza and officials say that could lead to traffic backing up as far back as harford county. there is one detour that could help you save sometime. you want to get off 95 at exit 109, the elkton onto route 279 towards newark. you then want to make a right onto route 4 and another route on railroad -- right on 896 and get back on the 95. route 40 is not a good idea if you want to avoid highway

traffic. the hatem bridge is down to one lane because of construction. you won't save time if you are thinking about going that way. aaa estimates the number of americans traveling this thanks giving holiday will increase by more than 11% from 20 09. with 42 million people traveling at least 50 miles from home. the figures are still 30% below the 2005 peak of 58 million road travelers. the family car is still the most common way to get through through the woods with 94% of holiday travelers reaching the destination by way of the old car. >> imagine if you driving somewhere like north dakota. the snow has been pounding the upper midwest. hard to see roadways. and it appears it will stay that way. the white blanket covered eastern north dakota and western minnesota yesterday morning. forecasters say at least 8 inches of snow is expected. the wind is causing blizzard conditions there. we have had great weather here. there's no doubt about it.

be mom again. now, maryland's most powerful doppler radar and the forecast certified most accurate by weather rate. 5:39. we will go back to towson. what a mild start. 49 degrees and one of the good things is that we don't have the widespread fog that we had yesterday. it's still out there. i want to alert you traveling in the outlying areas, if you your commute tax you by the reservoirs or through the valleys in baltimore county near carroll or howard county you may encounter fog. but that's not the case in towson. we have 50 backs towards sykesville. and 52 in easton on the eastern shore. we have some patchy thick fog, but mostly cloudy skies will result in some scattered showers as a cold front approaches early to mid afternoon. we will hate warm 66 the two degree guaranteed high. let's check on the traffic with kim brown. >> reporter: thanks. as we get ready for the travel day tomorrow, this morning, traffic is actually moving very, very well.

it's 5:44 on this tuesday morning. welcome back. this morning parents in harford county hope their voices are being heard. it was so crowded at the board of education meeting, there was no reason to sit. every school in the county is affected either losing or gaining students. sherrie johnson is live to explain what could happen next. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. charlie. yes, this was the first harford county school board education meeting since the unveiling of the redistricting plan for the elementary schools. and yes, every elementary school in the county will be affected either gaining or losing students, and many parents are not happy about it. some schools in fallston are above 100% capacity and others in the northern part of the country are well below 100%.

they say that needs to be balanced out before the arrivals of new families because of the brac jobs at aberdeen proving grounds. some parents say the move would be disruptive for their kid. >> we moved from another community to come to fallston and in less than two years our children have to be moved to another school. >> reporter: hopes to vote on the final measure is by february. there will be other meetings where parents can still speak their mind and talk to the school board directly. in the meantime, log onto abc2news.com to voice your opinion and comments on there. reporting live in bel air, sherrie johnson. police say a man attacked a woman who was jogging in jessup and sexually assault her. this is one of six similar cases in howard county since march. she fought back and got away. going back to april, three women were touched-appropriately on

policies has been fired. velma hart says she has been laid off as chief financial office for am vets a organization based in maryland. she says she lost her job because the nonprofit organization was look for ways to cut expenses. she was among those who questioned the president during a town hall style meeting on the ecomony back in september. also new this morning, a little more than a million dollars will be given to 64 schools thanks to the chesapeake bay trust. it includes more than 700 organization. the trust is is a state charter nonprofit grant making organization. environmental protection agency official says states of the chesapeake bay watershed has made progress in finding ways to reduce pollution. but the water quality coordinator says states need to do more to provide assurance they can meet the goals.

rockies, they have winter weather advisories in rare places like seattle which picked up a record 2 1/2 inches of snow yesterday. more is is expected there today. there could be travel problems in the region. if you are cutting across the nation, we are watching this active line. more nasty weather from kentucky through tennessee. and stretching its way through the deep south, we expect warm air to help to fuel the storms. but it's probably going to stay south of baltimore as we are on the northern fringe and we will get wet weather out of the line of storms. but most of the active weather will be splitting up and passing to the south. we expect one shot of showers here coming up during the afternoon hours between one and four, the best chance of getting hit with wet weather. gusty wind and heading through wednesday. outlook for thanksgiving clouds come back in and this is just one computer model. although it shows us dry with rain on the other side of the mountains, we will plan for the chance of morning showers and the increasing threat of showers throughout the day on thursday. the real rain with the next

storm will come on friday and that's when we start tanking on the thermostat. 66 that's the two degree guarantee this afternoon. but that comes with the increasing breeze and that comes with a chance of a shower early to mid-afternoon. we clear out tonight and will drop back down to 36. and we are expecting tomorrow's temperatures not to rebound much. only about 50 downtown which means we stay in the 40s outside the beltway. and the rest of us get a chance to catch up with the chilly air. thanksgiving scattered showers 52. 48 and falling with the rain on friday. could see a snow shower north and west of baltimore but 44 on saturday. and lows in the 20s and back to 45 with sun on sunday. >> reporter: for drivers make their way through howard county, there will be no problems on 29 from route 40 up in ellicott city heading through columbia down towards north laurel into montgomery county. on 95 in baltimore county at 195, traffic looks good making your way towards the capital

beltway. no problems on the bwi parkway. this is what we have. some reported police activity. 795 southbound right as you approach the beltway not report to be blocking any lanes. but keep an eye out for the driver as you make your way down there. the disabled vehicle 95 southbound on the southwest corner of the beltway near arbutus is off to the right. not really impacting traffic that much right now. stay with us. we have more of "good morning, maryland" coming back after this.

look at news from around the nation. a man searching time for attack two female jogger has been found g every murdering chan dray levy. her 2001 disappearance drew international headlines when she was linked to gary condit. authorities continue to search for the suspect in utah in the shooting of a park ranger. they say they don't believe he's escaped from the search area. the target for the manhunt is lance leroy erlano who official believe may be wounded and in need of medical help.
