shopping center. that's where we find sherrieionson live. sherrie. >> reporter: good morning. it's the saturday scene out here in hillendale after a volunteer baltimore county firefighter was killed right here at this apartment complex. you can see the burned out windows, the tape that encircles the building. there's a police officer sitting outside the building. this fire is still under investigation at this hour. bright lights, fire trucks and paramedics filled the area as crews worked to fight the fire. the call came out a little after 6 p.m. yesterday here at towson crossing apartment complex. 33-year-old -- 43-year-old mark falkenhan was killed while fighting the fire e was found on a third floor balcony and died at st. joseph's medical senter. >> 647 what is known as may day which is a distress call, was signaled. the incident commander picked

a hospital spokeswoman was able to tell us that she can stand on her feet with assistance from medical staff. this is wednesday. and now she is able to look out of her window in the hospital room. the progress came as giffords prepares to move to rehabilitation facility in houston, texas this week to begin the next phase of her recovery. she was shot through the head less than two weeks ago while hosting a political event outside a grocery store in arizona. more than two decades ago, a newborn sick with fever was snatched from new york city hospital. her frantic mother returning to the emergency room to find an empty crib. today, police say that baby is now a 23-year-old woman and she has been reunited with her family. karlina white was 19 days old when she was abducted. she started to become suspicious of the woman who was raising her when she was 16. and she started to look for her birth mother. >> i thought about a lot because one day i was hoping

johnson who has been live out there all morning. >> reporter: we are live here in hillendale war a volunteer -- where a volunteer firefighter lost his life while battling this blaze here. this happened yesterday. 43-year-old mark folkenhan was killed while trying to fight a fire. the calls came out after 6 p.m. when a kitchen fire happened on the second floor at the towson crossing apartment complex. two people that lived inside here building number 30, were critically injured and taken to two local hospitals. falkenhan sen out a may day distress call when he was trapped-side a third story apartment. his partner jumped out of a third floor wndo. he was on a third floor balcony and later died at st. joseph's medical senter. >> aid tragedy, and this man died in the line of duty saving lives. aid sad day for baltimore

of shooting an officer walking to the car. the officer was in a parking garage at frederick and water streets around nine on tuesday night a few blocks from the city police headquarters. authorities say once the officer was confronted by the gunman, he he pulled out his service weapon to protect himself and was grazed by a bullet in the leg. prince george's county police say they are investigating their 14th murder of the year. officers were called to the 3500 block of terrance drive around 2:30 in the morning on wednesday. officers found a man shot in a cul-de-sac outside an apartment complex. that man 22 years old. his name is douglas hodge jordan junior from washington. he was taking to the -- taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. this coming comes a week after the county's last homicide. 6:49 right now. felicia -- phylicia barnes has been missing for more than three weeks and spokesperson for baltimore city police department is expressing frustration with the national

media over their lack of coverage of the missing teen. the local media covered the case extensively, the local police department feels that they have have been not very quick to pick it up in the national media of a african american childisappearing in the violent city. they are calling it the natalee holloway case. baltimore's mayor says she understands the frustrations of the case. >> i am very concerned as her family and friends are that she has been missing for so long without any clues about her whereabouts. i know it's frustrating and when it's frustrating and there are no answers, you look for answers and places to place a blame. it's farl. but we are doing everything we can to bring attention and to put the resources in place to help locate phylicia barnes. >> anyone who knows anything about her wases about is asked
