getting pregnant and having a baby is one of the things that people think is supposed to be easy. several of you know how hards the. this is the story of a couple's painful journey to be parents. >> reporter: they were college sweet hearts. they started dating at virginia tech. four years later, they were married and didn't wait to start trying to have a baby.

>> reporter: john a pilot in marines. trying to get pregnant was stressful. no matter how hard they tried, lori wasn't getting pregnant. various diagnosis. no reason other than you should be getting pregnant and you're not. >> reporter: they struggled for ten years. lori went through a number of treatments and nothing worked. >> for lori, it felt like longer than ten years. >> reporter: they decided to adopt and that fell through. >> i thought, maybe it's not in the cards for me to be a mom. >> reporter: they went to shady grove fertility. they give it one more shot. >> i was very optimistic about  the ability to help them. >> the doctor said, i think you'll get pregnant. and it will probably be the

first try. i remember thinking, i bet you tell everyone that. >> reporter: sure enough, she got pregnant. nine months later, it was finally time. before leaving for the hospital, she hung this blue stocking for her baby boy. her labor was long and it was not progressing. >> she broke my water and i bled. they realized that something was very, very wrong. >> reporter: she had an undetected problem. matthew was born with a heart problem. >> they brought him in to us. at the time, i didn't realize the seriousness. i just thought, oh, my family's going to have drama. he'll be the miracle baby. i told everyone, he'll be fine.

i reached in and touched his cheek and his shoulder. that was all i got and i wished i had more. >> reporter: john rushed to georgetown. >> when i got up there and met the doctors, i knew that it was a dire situation. >> reporter: those tiny fingers only held on for so long. he died in his daddy's arms. >> john was able to be with him. he was able to hold him, he was not alone. i'm eternally grateful for that. we have a strong faith in god. on days i couldn't breathe, i know that's where it came from. he's not replaceable. now, we know what it feels like to be a mommy and daddy, we can't imagine not to feel that again. >> reporter: on may 14th, last year, she found out she was

pregnant. >> i remember dropping to my knees and being so thankful. nine months later, we had our little girl. >> it must be nice to lay and sleep. >> he's good and mellow and calm and sleep, just a happy, happy baby. >> with each baby, you hear about the news of them being delivered. it's like having a new child of my own. >> look at those cheeks! >> reporter: for lori, she carries a baby in her arms and one in her heart. >> he's a miracle and we appreciate every single thing so much more. >> reporter: holding on to every single minute and cherishing a gift that makes life so sweet. >> i love you. >> you're so happy, yes. >> one thing that helped them

i had to do it. we have showers and wet weather. we're dealing with this in parts of the state. most of this stayed dry. back through bel air and central harford county and galeina. we have a weak thundershower developing out here on the south edge of cecil county moving down into kent county. most of us are sitting clear now. taking a look at the weather today. that's at robert w. coalman. you can see this, things are brightening up a little bit out there. after a cloudy day, minneapolis is finding a late day brightening of the sky. that's a good omen for the forecast. how about the national institute of standards in gaithersburg. mostly cloudy and a little bit of clouds sneaking through.

we'll have more showers for the sunday. partly cloudy and a bit of sun mixing in. 70 in baltimore and 66 in hagerstown and humid dropped significantly. that's one of the reasons we didn't see the showers and storms today. we didn't have much moisture in the surface. the senter of circulation is further north today. there's been dry air wrapping around the backside of it helping to keep the weather dryer. not clearer, but dryer. some showers wrap around and at times, we can see a shower. it will be a slim chance and any rain that comes is in the form of a passing shower. this upper low will continue to track to the north east. the dry air edges more tomorrow. this should mean a dry saturday. even for the preakness, we can't rule that out, but we'll

have minimal chances. tomorrow, the possibility towards race thyme -- race time, we could have a popup showers. it will be north of the state line and close, yes, but not into the baltimore area. and into western maryland, more showers due in sunday. we'll be dry all around sunday. tonight, 60 and a stray shower and drying out. the two degree guarantee is 80 degrees and sun and clouds. just the isolated chance of a shower late in the day. tomorrow night, mild down to 60. we have the warmup on tap. not that the last week was chill -- chilly. warmer weather in the offing here. i think that especially if you're out tomorrow, wine in the woods or preakness or whatever. a sunnier day and much warmer. 80 and partly sunny, that's
