website at abc2news.com. but let's send it over to justin for your latest on the weather. >> reporter: thanks -- >> thanks a lot. we had a slight risk of severe weather to break the record heat. keep in mind while this has been an unusual tornadic season, two years ago we had record lowtornadoes. balance them out and that's the law of averages. sometimes you wind up with extremes on both end. and yes, numerous tornadoes and large hail reports you can see in the green shading. and few large hail reports in the east side of dc and blowing out towards near bowie where hail reports up to half dollar size yesterday. we missed out on the big storms but we win with the cool air spilling in. there's the storm complex. that cluster east cape cod this morning. and we are watching a push of much cooler and drier air. harford, glen and bel air, 64 this morning. that sound so nice. we are dry on maryland's most powerful doppler radar and we are expecting a sunny but windy day. winds gusting to 40 miles per

hour. our high is about 85. let's se -- let's see what he happening on the road with tonya. >> reporter: more -- what's happening on the roads with tonya. >> reporter: the sun is coming up. no major incidents on the beltway. 695 at providence, we do actually have a flatbed truck on the outer loop parked on the right shoulder. so be aware of that. that's where most heavy traffic is. couple incidents to tell you about. we have 95 southbound past 543 in harford county. one lane closed, the left lane. we also have fort mchenry tunnel, 95 southbound. bore one is closed. so look at the overhead areas and baltimore city still working an accident hilton parkway at hilton street. megan. a lot of people. this is the scene in jerusalem earlier this morning. thousands of israelis gathered to celebrate the day when israel took control over the

entire city of jerusalem 44 years ago. happened in june of 1967 following a 6-day war. the main procession of flag carriers marched through the mainly arab neighborhood along a route where a wall divided the city. 5:33. around the nation, firefighters from five different agencies spent the afternoon yesterday battling a grass fire on johnson space center's property. nasa says the fire started when engineers were testing new spacecraft technology. no one was injured in the fire. and los angeles overnight, look at what firefighters had to deal with. this massive fire. it's huge. they had to deal with it. it destroyed a furniture business. a nearby transformer caught on fire sparking. so far with all the flames, no injuries have been reported. there is no indication right now as to the cause of the fire whether or not it is cuts spishes. good news and bad news -- suspicious. good news and bad news out of missouri. everyone reported missing or unaccounted for since the

now "good morning maryland." 5:44. thanks for joining us. governor o'malley overseas trip is there this morning. the trip will take him to asia. he is going to china, south korea and vietnam. he hopes the 10-day trip will bring in big bucks for the state.

but it comes at a price. abc2 news linda so is here to explane. linda. >> reporter: well, it comes at a big price to you. the taxpayers. the trip cost at least $80,000 if not more. but the governor hopes what comes out of this trip will offset that huge price tag. he is on an economic development mission trying to score more trade and business opportunities for maryland. o'malley will speak at conferences andn china and korea and try to -- in china and korea and try to encourage them to set up shop in the states. he is with 50 official educators and business leaders. one is the president of the a baltimore company that builds roller coasters and amusement ride. we wanted to show you what it means. the 60 participants who joined the governor are paying for their own way. but the state, that means you the taxpayer, will pay for the governor and five officials. it's not known how much the entire trip will cost. just that it will be more than $80,000 bucks and probably less

than 200,000 dollars. in the studio, linda so, abc2 news. and speak of asia, more ar- - speak of -- speaking of asia, more and more graduates are heading there to land a job. graduates are spending as little as two weeks working in china to help bolster their resumes for jobs back home. applications for just internships alone have more than tripled during the past couple years for positions in china. congressman anthony weiner is flatly denying that he posted a lewd photo of himself on the twitter accounts. >> did you send that picture to that college student in washington state? >> i did not. she says she never got it and doesn't know me i certainly don't know her. seems like it was a prank to make fun of my name and when you are named weiner that happens a lot. 45,000 twitter follows and hundreds i follow and seems like a prank that's got an enormous a attention. >> it was sent to a student in

washington state over the weekend. after being contentious with reporters, the new york democrat did sit down with wolf blitzer and says the whole thing appears to be a prank. he says he has hired a law firm to investigate the whole incident. attorneys for the formees say they still don't know what evidence will be presented just weeks before a scheduled beginning of a trial. thomas drake say ciewfsd leaking classified information to the baltimore sun -- is accused of leaking classified information to the baltimore sun. there's a disagreement about whether the reporter relied on the alleged classified information found at drake's home a hearing set for friday. two baltimore city police office verse been sentence -- officers have been sentenced for trapping two boys -- stranding two boys from their home. they claim their innocence but they are accuseded of picking up the teens in west baltimore in 2009 and dropping them off in east baltimore and the other all the way in howard county.

the officers received 18 months suspend jail terms and probation. and the judge allowed them to keep their badges. today, people will gather to give hope to the unemployed. the event is at the baltimore unemployment center on north utah street and it kicks off at 2:30. the new unemployment numbers are due to come out tomorrow and event is put on by the group that spearheaded the pray at the park -- park movement. the food trucks are being restricted about where they can park. the idea is to keep the trucks from parking in front of existing restaurants. so after vendors and the mayor discussed plans yesterday, special zones will now be created specifically for those food trucks. the zones will be marked with signs that read food truck zone 9 a.m. to 3 in the afternoon. and all of those trucks must have the proper permits placed in the window and be clearly identified as a food truck.

we will look at high temperatures yesterday. 98 degrees. third day in a row hitting a record. 98. and then we can say breaks. 67 this morning. so far in the baltimore area and we will look at temperatures that transition back to closer to normal. what that? 57 in the morning and 79 in the afternoon. notice that a widespread ofrecords continue. 1993, the low end at 44 and glad to say 96 the high mark in 1923 will not be close today and you will see lot of sunshine. i want to point out something that was diving down from the east coast. in fact a complex that produceed a tornado in michigan and worked its way through new england and down the coast and across florida and now in the gulf of mexico. a minimal chance of tropical development but something the hurricane senter is watching and something that will be good news for parts of texas as it should slam into their region

with some beneficial rains, major droughtconditions continue. frontal bondry pushing offshore. the next batch of thunderstorms and clouds to the west bubble of high pressure with strong winds in between will gust up to 30 to 40 miles per hour. and there's a fire threat today because of the dry conditions. and because of the strong winds. but at least we knocked the temperatures down. now that complex of showers to the west may produce showers overnight friday into early saturday morning. and then we work our way back up with temperatures this weekend. but until then we are in fine shape. 85 today. so much better but the winds will gust to 40 miles per hour and plenty of sunshine. clear skies, 52 tonight which means 40s north and west. and a high temperature in the lower 80s on friday, mid to upper 80s over the weekend. >> reporter: 95 southbound at the fort mchenry tunnel is back open. that's good news. all lanes are open. top side of the beltway doing fine a little volume but no

a new report by the global commission on drug policy argues that the decades old global war on drugs has failed. the 24 page paper which says governments should explore legalizing marijuana and other controlled substances will be released today at a press conference in new york. and the u.s. department of agriculture today is expected to unveil a new food diagram intend to help people make healthier food choices. a spokesman says they will replace the current food pyramid with the one you are used to seeing. now they will replace it with a plate. it is supposed to be mitt romney's big day. on the same day he will make his presidential bid official, sarah palin has plans to steal a little attention. reports that the former alaska governor is holding a clambake on the coast. also former president hopeful and exmayor rudy giuliani is heading to new hampshire on the say dame romney makes his announcement. the nation's best young
