truck. curiosity got the best of them too. >> we came over and she started to look on her i-phone and saw what it was. it hasn't come yet. >> reporter: after an hour of waiting the family decided that curiosity was costing them too much time, they hit the road again. six minutes and 38 seconds later here it comes. and there it goes. flipping along with the delaware state police escort at about 50 miles per hour. in case you missed it here it is again. here it comes. and there it goes. there will be a test on this later. these weren't the only people ready to see the he will sphants -- -- at chesapeake, towson, even more, folks from elkton,turists from india, the guy with the big dog and little baby all waiting. here it comes. there it goes. more than an hour wait for just 30 seconds. why not? it's not everyday that you get to see a miracle of engineering or from the hudson. >> i thought it was a lot

weekend in september. now conway street is going to be closed in both directions between light and charles. and the department of transportation expects major traffic jams while the work is going on. parents listen up. students, counting down all school year until summer but if your student is a teen driver there's something you should know. >> unfortunately, it's also a very deadly time for young drivers and we really want parents to remain cognizant of that and really stay involved in their teens' driving. >> aaa says seven of the top 10 deadliest days of the year fall between memorial and labor day. and during those months between 2005 and 2009, 7300 teen drivers and passengers died in car crashes. aaa recommends parents cut down on driving, don't allow trips without a purpose. set rules for the number of passengers. how long they can be in the car and take time to drive with your teen driver even after they get their license.

no cell phone while driving. that's the other thing. at least without the hands-free device. across the state all clear now. that's good. we look for the weather to remain clear. temperatures were warm today but really only five, eight degrees above average. nothing to the kind of heat that comes in later this week. 88 still in frederick. 84 downtown. 70s the rest of the evening, generally clear, mild and pleasant. in the day tomorrow, hour by hour and finding 89 by 4:00. we'll push close to 90. i think we'll be above 90 in downtown baltimore but gets hotter. we talk about those temperatures which are hot coming up. developing tonight, gunfire in a neighborhood near where children play. now a dog is dead. neighbors are worried about their children's safety. it happened sunday morning in the 1,800 block of oriole court. this is in severn. brian kuebler explains how it happened where police are now looking into the investigation. >> reporter: sunday morning

crime tape now bunched up in a recycling container on oriole court. neighbors say they don't want a scene like this again. >> not in an area where children play. >> reporter: the area where her children and grandchildren play is where police say a man used his handgun to shoot and kill a dog. it happened 11:00 in the morning, detectives say children were playing with their pit bull which was not on a leash when it charged and attacked another pit which was on a leash. the children ran home to get their dad and that is when witnesses say the 3 to-year-old -- 32-year-old father came back, shot and killed the leashed dog when the two wouldn't stop fighting. >> that is terrible. the children play, anybody can get hit by a stlai stray bullet. >> reporter: the use of the hand gun is one of many concerns for the police in the case. the legality around the ownership of the weapon, the

subsequent discharge of the weapon is part of the investigation. >> reporter: police say they were at the scene again today to do follow-up interviews and collect more evidence. charges are possible against the moon who used his -- man who used his gun, overreaction neighbors feel for children, put children and others in danger. >> if it would had been one of my children, a neighbor's child, it's -- terrible. something needs to be done. something really needs to be done. >> reporter: a decision eventually determined by the anne arundel county state's attorney's office. in severn, brian kuebler, abc2 news. the one pit bull was shot and later died in a local vet office. the other dog is currently in the custody now of animal control. we're going to update the story we've been reporting all weekend about the elderly woman attacked by a pit bull. still in the hospital here tonight. we're told she's in stable and in fair condition over at bayview. 78-year-old athena was walking to get her mail in the 700 block of porchga street in

greektown. the dog on a nearby porch then came running. according to the health department the dog will stay in quarantine for 10 days, after that a hearing will determine if there should be -- if the dog should be returned to the owner. we've now learned the owner has been hit with three citations since the dog was without a leash, without vaccinations and without a license. she's been fined $550. on abc2news.com, that's where you'll find the information from the center for disease control about pit bulls and wanted to find out whether they deserve the reputation. so we researched and found the most violent dog breeds plus you're going to also find some tips on what you can do to protect yourself just in case of a dog attack. the annapolis police department is asking for your help to find this woman. she is 51-year-old anna smith. according to police smith is mentally disabled, needs medication. was last seen tuesday in the area of medical rock court in -- mel rock court in annapolis

baltimore's housing authority has taken heat for not paying judgments for families hurt by lead paint but they are not the only ones waiting for a check. tonight at 11:00, we introduce to you a woman fighting a battle for years, lived in a public housing unit in southwest baltimore tainted with toxic mold. she complained but nothing was done. she sued the housing authority and won.

yeah, a little above average today but not bad for june compared to some of the heat we had even in late may. humidity 40%, pretty tolerable. as we look at some of the weather throughout the afternoon, mount airy, clouds, streaking across the sky. those are fair weather cumulus clouds. even they thin out as we work into the latter part of the afternoon. manchester finding just a few clouds up here in northern -- northeastern carroll county. out over the field here at manchester high and how about a look at laurel high school annex? doesn't matter where you went today. you found weather that was really on the clear side. we had a couple of renegade showers toward poke mow on the lower eastern shore but that was about it. humidity 31% in frederick. 43% downtown. annapolis a little more mugginess there where you're at 53%. and neighborhood by neighborhood tomorrow i think we're at or below 90 for mount vernon, back down through fells point. a little breeze off the harbor, maybe not as hot but it will be warm in the afternoon.

lake shore 88. across the region, quiet tonight. i think we'll be looking for relative quiet weather through maybe like thursday afternoon but the heat will continue to build each day. that is for sure one little disturbance out toward southern michigan, detroit down through ohio, that really will not play much factor. may spring a few clouds in our direction later. the oppressive humidity still bottled up south of us. you have to get to seventh or higher to really suffer in the humidity. that is in charleston now. that hot tropical ridge to continue to replace that mild air we have in baltimore and maryland now. we have a surge of heat coming our way. st. louis 96 today. nearly 100 toward jackson and montgomery. futurecaster showing basically quiet pattern here. again, a couple of showers and thunderstorms, mainly north of us tomorrow. we think they stay in pennsylvania. as we go into the later part of wednesday, tuesday into wednesday, again, a pop-up shower or storm possible but i
