there's -- back in april an investigation found hundreds of elevators in our baltimore area were behind on their checks. an agency that oversees the

inspections is making a big change. >> reporter: certificates like this one are ways to tell if an elevator has missed an inspection. that won't be possible for much longer. the department of labor, licensing and marketing is taking the date off the paper work. they're putting it front and center in every elevator. if it was past due, maybe you felt a little uneasy. we certainly did when we found hundreds of elevators had missed their inspection, some of them by months, others by years. they're doctoring the expiration dates on some papers and replacing them with the inspection dates. in an email they say it's an effort to ease your fears that the elevator you're riding in is safe. it has a label telling when the inspecs is valid. it was dropped for some on april

weather. 87 at bwi. as you take a look at some of those different sky net cameras, we look at robert w coleman, kind of a hot, hazy type of sky. one of those muggy hazy scenarios. humidity high today but not nearly as oppressive as it has been at times. i want to take one more camera as weigh go tout to mt. area ri, summit ridge. you see this looks balmy. hot, hazy, not a lot of cloud cover but a little bit of that haze on the horizon. all clear at the moment. that's a good thing. we expect things to stay clear for another couple of days. winds have been just a little breezy today, which was nice. that helped move the air around. temperatures right now have dropped from what we're close to 90 in most spots to the upper

80s. when the air is not everly humid you -- overly humid you get a cool off. humidity levels now in the mid-30s. 42% humidity in annapolis. one little desorbs provided -- disturbance provided some of the cloud cover. conditions have been holding up pretty well for us. again, i think there's some passing cloud cover for maryland but a few showers down in west virginia. bottom line is this huge ridge of tropical pressure began to build in. so mild weather just north of us kind of beginning to build out as that hotter tropical air begins to stream in or should i say steam. our futurecaster does not detect a storm, maybe west of

cumberland could see some. a better chance on thursday afternoon as the heat really begins to crank up with heat index values close to 100, a couple days of a heat advisory. overnight 67, a new clouds. tomorrow 96 at the airport. again, with the humidity, heat index will feel like more than 100. tomorrow night 72 with a few clouds and more moisture rolling into town. seven-day forecast, the outlook heating things up. next two days hotter, good chance for scattered thundershowers. we're only talking about a 30%, 35% chance friday into saturday. i got to tell you, the main cool front that was supposed to come down, looks like this will stall out. we think until at least friday, at least friday but it may be hot longer than that. we'll see how this shapes up.

we have breaking news out of northwest baltimore where fire crews are on the scene of a three alarm fire at a vacant apartment building. they found several apartments on fire. because of the intensity of the fires, more crews were called to the scene. right now there are no reports of any injuries, but we do have a crew on the scene and we'll update you when we have more information anytime on abc2news.com. in tonight's health alert a

group of researchers claim a popular prediction tool for strokes is not reliable. it's called the abcd2 score. it's used for people who have mini strokes. in the study the abcd2 score identified all of the patients who had a stroke within three months of the mini stroke but most of the patients would have a stroke even though a large majority did not. new hope for people with spinal cord injuries. some you new technology and therapy are giving people what they say they have lost -- sensation and movement in their legs. >> one big basis of our program is using modern technology to use the owner sprues system. >> the therapy includes gait training and water therapy along
