the week. lynette charles fresh off a nice outing and it was hot there as well wasn't it? >> yeah. >> oh. >> we had a fabulous time. but you know what, it's going to be hot today. and we go through the day, sweltering heat is in the headlines and it's going to be hazy sunshine we are dealing with. we have a heat advisory so the heat indexes will be about 100 to 1005. temperatures in the mid-90s and humidity is going to take effect. and we have a code orange for today. the storms and a cool downis on the way. and i know you guys can't wait for that one. so the heat advisories for today, you can see them across the area here. as we check over in the eastern shore, things things are look pretty good in terms of the heat advisory. but we have the air quality so that code orange is in effect for basically everybody. where as yesterday, the code orange was not across the eastern shore. so, things definitely have changed for today. as we check out what's going on

on maryland's most power fop radar things are dry and will -- powerful radar, things are dryand will stay that way. tide point is at # 6 degrees -- 76 degrees. so we are looking at warm temperatures. when you start out this warm and sunshine throughout the day, temperatures will be up in the 90s. let's toss it back to the desk. >> all right. thanks. we will continue with the heat because that's the big story. there is a heat alert to tell you about. so far this year, two people have died because of a of thesweltering temperatures. with the temperatures around an all time high around 100 by the end of the week, students are struggling and many schools don't have air conditioning. and that's going to be -- including leaf walk elementary school. >> so baltimore city and baltimore county closing two hours early because of the heat today. it's been declared a code red heat alert day. hot temperatures makes learning difficult for students and teachers.

4:33. in other news, a family in severna park is mourning the loss of their dog after a neighbor shot the animal during the past weekend. a 2 1/2-year-old pit bull named jasmine was killed on benfield road. the owner says the family was out to dipper at the -- dinner at the time. neighbor told police he was doing work in his yard saturday night when jazz man approached him -- jasmine approached him aggressively. hopkin says jazz men was like a -- jasmine was like a member. >> i don't know why he did it. and jasmine is gone and they he don't know why. >> anne arundel county police are charging mcconnell with discharging a firearm and animal cruelty. both are misdemeanors and mcconnell declined to comment. derrick hopkins is considering legal action against his neighbor. a pit bull that attacked a woman in greektown has been put

downch the owner gave consent to have the together euthanized and on -- have the dog euthanized because on saturday the dog attacked a woman that is in the hospital with injuries to her face and broken bones. the dog's owner owes $550 in citations for the attack. a man is questioned inconnection with a rape. a suspect followed a woman into her apartment as she was moving things in and attacked her, raped her. jason kurtis with the mount vernon belvedere association says after hearing about the rape they increased segway patrols. we have learned a 12-year- old girl found dead in her home was stabbed to death. so far police say they don't have suspects or a motive in the killing but they are talking with the girl's family. in the meantime, they are asking anyone with information to call the montgomery county police department. the number is 240-773-5070 in seemed like a good idea but now

charges are pending against a 25-year-old one who decide to give her 14-year-old niece a driving lesson and they end up in the lake montebello. police say the teen put her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake and the van she was driving crashed through a fence and into the lake. now the aunt of that niece and a 5 #-year-old great aunt are reportedly doing ago but the aunt faces $430 in fines and five points against her license. go figure. all right. 4:36 this morning. an opponents of the dream act are more than halfway to the goal. state board of -- of elections validated 31,000 signatures for poe tigss. they need 18,-- petitions. they need 18,500 and have to the end of the month to get 56,000 signatures need to get the bill put up to a work. the dream act let's undocumentstudents to pay in- state college tuition.

>> reporter: the wallo fire is the second largest wild fire in arizona's history. it forced the evacuation of at least 5,000 people. >> we packed up everything we could. >> memories. >> memories and clothes. >> i don't know if i will have to start over again or not. >> reporter: the fire started may 29th. thick smoke and high winds harmered firefighters efforts grounding planes that otherwise would be used to douse flames from the air. but tuesday, the wind died down. >> so we can fly the aircraft all day. so our aircraft were up here putting retardant in and dropping water. >> reporter: the flames are lettening to cross into new mexico. firefighters and homeowners in luna are preparing for the worst. >> we sweep back the pine needle and kicked back flammable materials, furniture, wooden items, lumber whatever that is next to the house. >> i have my pictures and my quilts and my sewing machine. what will be, will be. >> reporter: the governor of arizona tee chaired a state of

emergency this -- declared a state of emergency this week releasing funding to aid and response and recovery. greg black reporting. a woman in randallstown says she was evicted but it should have been her neighbor. the nets was placed on the wrong door she showed us the apartment. turned inside out. she thought she was robbed. clothes with mixed in with milk and red meat. two television ripped from the wall and her mattress was gone. she lives at gardenview apartments. property manager didn't return our calls. but major says they point the finger at the contractor. >> the landlord said that the contractor who was contracted to remove trash for evictions went into the wrong apartment. >> shanea majors says the contractor brought the truckload of her belongings but a lot of it was damaged. she is missing her laptop and cell fop and hired an attorney and has decided to file a

rodney goggins has been scaled back pending further developments in the investigation. we are ten minutes away from five. royalty is coming to the state. we are not talking about will and kate. sorry. i know. it's actually prince edward who will be visiting baltimore along with miss america. of ward young american challenge. the program is designed to build confidence, motivation and self-worth for participants ages 14 to 25. students in the program will be involved in community service, and activities focused on physical recreation and skills. county police officer and local people and special olympians will participate in 3 mile law enforcement torch run today. every officer throughout the state will carry out a weeklong torch run to -- relay. delivering the flame of hope to the special olympics maryland summer games, it consist of

at 4:30. check this out. you talked about this video. an 8 alarm fire at a vacant mill in northern rhode island. what is it about flame video that makes you stop and watch. hundreds are without power in the area. and around a mill that had to be evacuated. eight alarm fire. smoke from the fire could be seen 10 miles away and picked up a local tv station's doppler radar and all of this from the 125 firefighters at the scene along with the city's police department. nearby departments in rhode island and massachusetts sent in firefighters. one had to be rushed to the hospital. that mill has been vacant for about a year. the sheriff's official says no bodies have been found at a texas farmhouse war person claimed to be a psychic told officials multiple bodies were buried. the sheriff says this's no indication of bodies being anywhere on the property. officials say the sheriff office received two calls from person who said dismembered bodies would be found.

they say that the authorities there took the tip very seriously in part because the caller had details about the interior of the house that only someone who would have seen it would have known about. so now they are trying to track down that caller. a couple in the 630s is behind bars accused of -- 60s is behind bars accuseded of growing millions of pot. police in michigan say they found more than 7,000 marijuana plants in the couple's he barn, -- couple's brown and the value is around $8 million. they face 15 years in prison if convicted. i don't think they can use the medical marijuana excuse. police are saying they may have been part of a larger crime ring. you have to look at these pictures. might not be hot out like at least for this guy, but however, chilling out by the hot tub can be pretty relaxing even if you are a bear. look at the photos. this bear decided to make himself right at home and take a dip in the tub.
