taking a look at news around the nation. an autopsy will be done to determine if a woman's body was pulled from a creek is that of a missing indianan university student sheep has been -- she has not been seen in a month. the body was found and it's badly decomposed and they can't confirm the woman's race or age. it's not quite a year and a half until the presidential election but the president he has an endorsement. national education association which is the country's biggest education union is backing the president for reelection. they say they want to give him an early and strong support because of a shared vision. all right even if you have seen fireworks hundreds of times before you still stop and admire them every 4th of july. this 4th displays put on by macy's lit up the sky over the hudson river in new york city. that's always a spectacular

fireworks ended. >> reporter: it was a terrible night. we are by the water here by pier 6 pavilion. this was a great place to be to take in the fireworks. we are by the water. pier 6 pavilion has mccormick and schmick's here. people are taking the morning jog, walking around, but what they may not know is last night, this is where a man was stabbed in the neck. he later died at shock trauma. it happened after the fireworks show ended at around 10 last night. again, that man was taken to shock trauma but he didn't survive. then in the separate incident, a 4-year-old boy was shot in the leg as he was standing with his dad at light and pratt streets after the fireworks last night. police say the boy's father heard a loud noise and the boy started to complain his leg hurt. that's when the dad realized his son had been shot. that boy was taken to johns hopkins and his injuries are considered nonlife-threatening. thousands were at inner harbor to celebrate the 4th and to see the fireworks. police had promised a heavy security with hundreds of cops

on patrol. earlier in the evening, the police commissioner held a news conference to detail the coordinated effort with a number of different agencies. but still, that could not stop the violence. later this morning, at 11, police will hold a briefing to talk about what happened last night. again, two of those incidents you will be hearing about all day, a man stabbed is in the neck outside mccormick and schmick's by pier 6 pavilion who died. and a 4-year-old boy shot in the leg after the fireworks ended last night. he is expected to survive. live downtown, linda so, abc2 news. 5:37. take a look at this amazing rescue. this is las vegas after a huge thunderstorm ripped through the area. firefighters saw a homeless man clinging to a shopping cart in the middle of the water. he was seeking shelter from the heat when that storm hit. firefighters lowered the ladder to get the man to safety. they took him to the hospital and he is expected to be okay. check outed mudslide in china. two -- out the mudslide in

casey anthony's fate rest in the hand of a central florida jury. both side completed closing arguments on monday beforehanding the evidence and instructions to the panel. abc2 news sherrie johnson is here with the latest. >> reporter: well, the judge had the final word just before the jury got the case. he read instructions after hours of testimony and in a case that's captured the attention of the world. the state wrapped up with a 1, 2 punch from jeff ashton who toldjurors the defence's distraction -- defense's distractions are that distraction. prosecutors hit hard at opening statements they say the defense never backed up. they asked who's life was better without caylee and answered by showing a picture of a tattoo after the toddler

sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >> thank you. the search continues for a missing boater in pasadena. the department of natural resources and police are calling this a deadly accident. 25-year-old james kane has been ided as the missing person. rescue boats were searching for him. investigators say a woman on the boat with him was rescued from the water by a passing boater. however, his body reportedly never resurfaced. >> units arrived on scene on the water and found a run away boat that was circling out there in the water he with no one aboard -- water with no one aboard. >> the search continues from the land until dark monday night. no word on what caused the man and woman to go overboard. mexican authorities say rescue teams have been considering calling off the search for seven tourists missing in a baja california fishing boat accident that killed one american. the 27 tourists and the 19 crew members on a 7-day fishing trip were thrown into the gulf of

california early sunday morning when a sudden storm capsized the boat. about -- about 60 miles south of the port of san philipe. the rescues had to swim for nearly 12 hours before being pulled to safety. a suspect in the university professor's murder is refusing to return to the united states and now it's reportedly this guy is taunting police from his mexican hideout. jorge is accused of killing susan markham a popular accounting professor at american university. she was murdered last october. and the dna found on the murder weapon. the problem is he fled to mexico and is taunting police to come get him. in a recent e-mail believed to be for an el paso detective, he wrote, of course you are cordially invited to cross the

right now culpepper is at 72 for a dew point. so as we look at the air quality alert, we do have this in effect for today. but everybody is not so great especially as we head into most parts of maryland. but as we head over to the eastern shore, that's where you are out of the air quality alert. if you have lung disease, limit your exposure to outdoors for today. especially the outdoor activities. satellite and radar not picking up on a lot. a few showers and storms, but mainly to the south of baltimore around the dc area. that's basically out of here. as we go through time, there's a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm to pop in the forecast. isolated in nature and it -- pop up in the forecast. isolated in nature. hopefully that will start to build in going throughout the day. going into wednesday, we will have a better chance for showers and thunderstorms in the picture here. that will particular into thursday. for today, though, that temperature is coming in around 90. we will get more sunshine, temperatures will be above normal. and then by the time we hit
