not too many if any had predicted the court of public opinion, which had casey anthony guilty but the jury didn't see that way. in a stunner, casey anthony found not guilty of killing her daughter. it was like a nationally televised soap opera. it took the jury just 10 hours to read the verdict. casey anthony was looking at the death penalty. now she is looking at four years. we have the very latest right after the court reaction in florida. >> reporter: as the verdict was delivered, there was silence there downtown orlando, followed by outbursts, people crying and shouting, stunned at the verdict. >> as to the charge of first-degree murder, verdict as to count one, we the jury find

the defendant not guilty. >> reporter: a sobbing casey anthony collapsed into her attorney's arm, but after the verdict, the jury declined to explain how they arrived that the decision. >> the 12 jurors have declined to talk to you. >> reporter: so ends the nearly two-month trial and speculation in the death of 2-year-old caylee anthony. she disappeared in 2008. her mother casey was the prime suspect. she waited 31 days to report her missing. caylee's remains were reported in a wooded area near the home. the defense claimed that caylee accidentally drowned. >> casey did not murder caylee. it's that simple, and today our

system of justice has not dishonored her memory by a false conviction. >> reporter: outside the court spectators cried and shouted. a little girl's memory still fresh in their minds. her mother acquitted in her death. sentencing will take place this thursday. casey anthony faces a maximum of four years behind bars minutes team served which is two and a half years. now back to you. >> all eyes were supposed to be trained on the sky but violence brought many down to earth shortly after the majestic fireworks. one man stabbed to death. a 4-year-old shot. police is asking for your help to solve both cases.

brian kuebler has more. >> reporter: there were 600 officers downtown and cameras just about every where but the crazy actions of a few left a man dead and a 4-year-old shot. police responded to a stabbing on pier 5. a citizen sent this cell phone picture to police shortly after. police want to speak to this man and find out whoever used a broken bottle to kill joe callo from alabama. >> you can see down to the tattoo. because people want better. because people want a safer environment, we'll find out.

has filed a libel lawsuit against the new york post. it said that she was a prostitute and that she traded sex for money. the post is standing by it. she felt it was a move to step down. county council woman leslie johnson resigned today. johnson's last official day in office will be july the 31st. johnson's resignation, the latest in the events that saw her husband shaking down developers. she will be sentenced coming up in october. a day of fishing and sight seeing on a tourist boat goes horribly wrong. an american tourist is dead, others are missing. plus, the dates posted on the meat you buy at the grocery store has more to do with quality than safety.

we're going to be talking about severe weather. at least five are still missing in mexico. 43 were in a tourist fishing boat. the boat capsized and sank. these photos were taken after the rescue. the person who died was an american. all of those rescued are expected to be okay. a homeless man was whisked away during this flash flood. fire officials lowered a ladder it get to the man and get him into safety. they took him to the hospital just to be safe.
