police say the man had several head wounds. shots were heard in the area. an autopsy is being done to determine the exact cause of death. tonight police in prince george's county are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in her home. the suspect broke into a bedroom window on living ton terrace. the sexual assault may have begun as a burglary. police are asking people to keep their windows and doors locked. the maryland amber alert program is joining forces with the lot re to make sure missing children are found. amber alerts will be displayed within 15 minutes. >> we want to get the word out as fast as possible. in 15 minutes it will be displayed over soon to be 4,000

terminals. >> the monitors are already located at many retailers, including gas stations, convenience stores, bars and restaurants. imagine paying thousands of dollars to have your driveway paveed. that's what some have been forced to do. abc2 news joce sterman joan -- joins us. >> reporter: some of the people never committed to the work, only to find estimates, only to find clack's crew ripping up their driveway and then got a bill for thousands more than, spctd. >> reporter: an annapolis mansion and a cherry red corvette in the drove way are obvious signs of the good life. we know how the person can afford it. a so-called con man contractor who rolls his victims for huge amounts of money.

how much was the bill? >> $13,900. >> $15,000. >> $32,000. >> reporter: those are big bills for blacktop. three states involved at least feef companies and henge -- five companies and hinges on this man, tommy clack, who goes by four different aliases, an enterprise that has already taken more than a dozen maryland victims. >> that as awful steep. >> reporter: he paid nearly $14,000 to cover his driveway even though he never committed to the work. when clack showed up with his seeny red truck, gibson told him to come back with an estimate. >> when looked up, they were tearing the driveway up.

i said it has to be done. >> reporter: he felt he had no choice but to pay, neither did this 75-year-old anne arundel oner. >> i've been had. >> reporter: he was charged $15,000 after clack showed up at his house although he was quoted about $1,000. >> when he hit me with $15,000 that lou my mind. >> reporter: ours, too. that's why we're blowing the top off clack's operation. he specifically targets older people, a same-day, and a big price. >> you will never see them again for an of the warranty or additional stuff. >> reporter: clack likes to keep his fleet on the movement hoe was banned by north carolina's attorney general and moved on to south carolina where he is

facing criminal charges for swindling. they headed north to maryland this summer. our records listed him at the number we told you about. we made two visits to clack's house where trucks filled with equipment and labeled with the name county asphalt sit in the driveway. we wanted answers but clack turned off the lights and hid. lots of people feel like they've been steam rolled. in maryland court records show clack is facing charges for theft and operating without a license in many cases. 14 cases are being investigated so far, and counting. >> we are confident there are additional victims. >> reporter: victims like russell. >> definitely take has toll on you. if he had given mow a price of $13,900 it wouldn't have got done. >> reporter: it puts them in the

why a victim will never see a dime. joce sterman, abc2 news. well, tourists in d.c. had an unusual sight on the washington mall. they watched engineers rappel down the side of the washington monument. what a sight for these folks to see. >> reporter: the landmark is still shut down. we'll take you inside the monument as the 5.8 earthquake hit. today engineers rappel down the side of the 555-foot monument, checking for cracks and other damage from the 5.8 earthquake. the national parks service says there's no timetable for reopening it for tour evidents or completing the repairs. >> it's a testment that the

monument has withstood not just this earthquake but a larger one in the late 1800s. they obviously knew what they were doing. >> reporter: we saw what happened. right before the quake hits, a park ranger checks the phone. tourists calmly come down the stairs. and then at 1:15 in the afternoon a small jolt as the earthquake hits and the shaking grows more voi lengths. people quickly head for the stairs. parents grabbing their kids as debris rain down. >> you can hear the building above shaking. >> reporter: the park ranger said it took about 10 minutes to get everyone down the stairs. >> even as i'm going down the stairs, it's shaking so hard that it knocks me into the railing. i probably would have fallen if

arundel county and west of the hagerstown area. a little bit of wet weather. right now conditions, cloudy at the airport. 76 degrees. humidity 85%. some of our cameras, maryland science center looking north and finding just a murky cloudy day. heavy showers early in mt. airy. one of the wet spots in carroll county. washington, down in d.c., still checking on the monument from the earthquake. weather wise, not a lot of rain. we did get late breaking sun. temperatures mid-70s. 66 west. 72 down at the beach. 76 in baltimore right now. humidity very, very high. the dew point numbers something like you'd see in the middle of the summer. very humid. it's helping to fuel the showers and thundershowers. these are widely scattered. where you get a band of rain it

will be heavy. so any areas that get a heavy downpours could see flash flooding. look at that beg circulation over -- big circulation over chicago. it's still there, still sending a big surge out of the south, high pressure offshore. that's working to push in the winds and the moisture and the humidity, and the chance for rain will be there overnight into the day tomorrow. the trend showing more wet weather scenarios into midday thursday, so we've got a ways to g overnight -- go. tomorrow mostly cloudy, scattered showers and a broken record, chance for showers tomorrow. seven-day forecast, when do we get rid of the stuff. we'll see a few showers thursday and friday. then cooler. it will start to feel it friday evening but that cool front

a new study says a new aggressive approach to treating breast cancer may be more effective. instead of the breast cancer patient going through chemo and radiation, the new approach calls for both to be done at the time, that it reduced the risk of cancer returning by 35% in

women with early breast cancer. they say it has limited side effect. it affects 425,000 people last year. men who don't have a children may have an increased risk of dying from heart desease. a study finds childless men had a 17% higher risk of death from heart disease than dads. they said infertility may be a risk factor, that low testosterone levels are a risk factor for heart disease. listen up, ladies. getting your morning coffee fix may do more than boost your energy. it may help you steer clear of depression. that's coming from a new study. the study found women who drink two to three cups of coffee could reduce their chance of getting depression. s this applies to decafnated joe
