rescue is offering bales to horse owners to help them. what many. >> reporter: they specialize in saving some of the largest breeds but the rescue couldn't turn away mares the largest horse abuse seizure in maryland five months ago. now it's strapped. >> all the rescues are kind of functioning at capacity and can only help horses in immediate crisis. huh-uh fortunately that mean there is are thousands who are on the edge of being in a crisis. >> reporter: coupled with a shortage of hay many horse owners have nowhere to turn. >> we have seen increase in horses who are being given up by private owners and a large increase in people who would like to surrender end them but there is nowhere for them to go. >> reporter: now they have establish aid hay banker where

go to www.maryland hay bank.org. we were the first on the scene of this accident on the townsend baltimore city line here. a car went through the front window of a restaurant here in the york plaza and nobody was sitting in the restaurant when it happened and nobody was hurt. no word on what caused the accident. check out this picture we have for new jacksonville. that is a van that hit a business. this is on paper mill road and baltimore county. one person was hurt but refused treatment. the accident scene has been cleared but remains under investigation. we lost a young life today. she was on her way to school. she lost control of her car and hit an abandoned house. now her friends and family have that empty feeling after this accident. near the intersection of mountain road at fair wood. the 17-year-old was traveling at a high speed and the road

was wet. she lost control of her car and crashed into the abandoned car. the high school senior later died at baltimore washington medical and this corner has always been dangerous for those who live there. >> it's always a mess. something needs to be done but -- just keeps going on and on. like a beltway. >> she was a member of the cheer leading track teams at chesapeake high and everybody is hurting tonight. it was also a scary scene in baltimore this morning when a school bus hit another car. the accident took place on york road around 7:30. the car was being driven by a high school student and two others were in the car. the bus was full of middle school students, nobody was hurt in the crash and this is still under investigation at this hour. a new campaign to fight bullying came here today. to two schools who got a grant for their efforts.

rachel's challenge was presented to the schools today. the schools were awarded a grant from the public schools education foundation to bring the program to their schools so both hope to use this to help spread a school wide approach to bullying and create an environment where students don't have to worry about being bullied. >> we believe that there is probably bullying going at the any given time in our school as well as anywhere else and it's our job and the students job to think of ways of -- to stand up to bullying and let them know that the bully is not the one with the power. >> it was founded by the father of rachel scott who was the first person killed at columbine in 1999. tonight at 7:00 a community meet willing be held at the middle school. it may have been known for many but it's official. the baltimore grande prix is coming back income next year

will be introduced. that will add about 8 million numbers to the system. the new code wills be assigned to eastern and central maryland as well as the eastern shore so that's baltimore city, county, hartford and howard plus those east of the bay. they hope it's not that hard of a change. >> it's not as weird as it used to be too dial a different area code. i -- this should be painless and easy other than just having a number -- once you have friend friends friends or see businesses i guess have you to mentally get used to it being nearby. >> now there are many people reacting to the news of a new code but many thought it would just be easy to adjust to. >> once people get used to it will be a part of normal life. >> that's -- i think it's a great idea. i can't remember my own code

. now to a health alert. the number of babies being born is dropping in the united states. in 2007 more than 4.3 million were born. the highest number ever but last year that number was just more than 4 million. the likely cause for the drop the economy. as the drop in birth coincide was the recession and financial challenges. what you eat can work against how you are born. a new study finds the right food can override a genetic risk for a heart attack.

how this may w. >> reporter: eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables may help you beat the odds of developing heart disease even if you inherited genes for the condition. according to a new study in montreal. researchers looked at the diets of more than 27,000 people. in two large heart stories. they found that when people who have inherited a common gene that increases the risk, ate plenty of raw vegetables they had fewer heart attacks. a diet high in them seemed to modify the effects of the bad heart gene bringing it down to more healthy levels. the researchers didn't investigate which fruits fruits and vegetables were responsible but suggest we all consume healthy amounts. the department of agriculture recommend that most women eat one and a half cups of fruits
