road this afternoon. abc 2 news sherral joins us live. >> reporter: we are in the 10,000 block of bird river road right here in middle river. behind us you can see that homicide detectives are outside of this home where we understand an 85 year old woman and an 85 year old man were found dead by a family member this afternoon. joining us now live is a spokes woman. i understand that a note was found inside that home. >> there was a note. this is a married couple. they were found deceased in the living room. there is no foul play suspected in this case. >> reporter: are police calling this a murder suicide? >> that's right. this is an apparent murder suicide. >> reporter: how did the man and woman died? >> they both died from a gunshot wound. >> reporter: the family member i understand went inside that home? >> what we know is that a

family member went inside the home and said something was wrong and called 911. the fire engine crew was the first unit to arrive at the scene. as soon as the engine crewed arrived they saw that they were dealing with two people who were dead inside the house and they immediately called for the police. >> reporter: joining us live is benny, a family friend. i understand that you knew a little bit more about the couple's health and that the husband had a recent incident this year. >> he had a stroke and wasn't getting over it too well. she was sickly, also. to me they just seemed like they were a good, loving couple. >> reporter: they were farmers we understand? >> more or less, yes. he owned this farm for a long time here. he has raised chickens and cows and everything through the years. and i guess the ordinances cut

him down to just chickens. >> reporter: was there anything recently that might have led you to believe that he was capable of this? >> it would just have to be the illness to where they couldn't take it any longer or something like that. i stopped by to take the dog down to the groomers. i come by and i was going to stop and visit. i only seen the father's truck there. i didn't see the mother's suv. when i come back and got the dog it was the same situation, just the truck here and not the suv. so i just went on home and then i finally found out that this had been going on. i called the daughter and she told me to come and find out what i could about it so she could be a little at ease. her car is broke down. >> reporter: thank you so much for spending a few minutes with us. we appreciate it. what we have here in the 10,000 block of bird river road in middle river two elderly

people, a couple found dead, an 85 year old woman and man. police will be out at this home. we are not identifying them at this point because it is so new in the investigation police have not given out their names because they are waiting to notify family. we are certainly gop to hold off on giving out their names, as well. now to a developing story that started with a deadly crash in fells point last night. two college campuses are mourning the loss of friends who died at the intersection of broadway and banks street. >> reporter: morgan state university and stevenson universities are both small campuses not that far from one another. tonight the student bodies of both are mourning the loss of one of their own. two universities struggling from the loss of their own students, both died in this one crash. 23-year-old julian benson from morgan state and 18 year old

zoey crumpton from stevenson university died after their cars collided late thursday night. the effects of which will last much longer than the damage still visible here at the corner of bank and broadway. >> it is a tremendous loss. sadness is the only way to describe it. >> reporter: julian benson was a star here at morgan. he was mr. morgan last year involved in a mentoring program and was very popular on campus. >> tremendous. you check social networks, you hear student feedback. it is heartbreaking. >> reporter: freshman nursing student at stevenson university, zoey crumpton was in the other car. she died last night, as well. she, just a few weeks into her goal of becoming a pediatric nurse to work with children. >> just about 6 or 7 weeks into

the semester and she was six or seven weeks into the beginning of her college years. >> reporter: police say benson was driving the suv northbound on broadway when it hit the eclipse crumpton was in. witnesses say the suv was speeding and detectives are looking into whether or not benson blew through a red light. police are not ready to assign fault to this crash just yet. both benson's passenger and crumpton's driver suffered only minor injuries. abc 2 news. fredrick county police say they have arrested a man who illegally entered a hood college dormitory. morgan was arrested yesterday found hiding in a woman's bathroom in memorial hall. police say witnesses say he entered the halt and tween the

bathroom. he was convicted of murdering a john hopkins researcher. today john wagner was sentenced and jeff hager was there. >> reporter: erin's mother was on the phone with him. today it was her son's murderer who got to listen as she spoke of john wagner who was more evil than human. asked for the maximum sentence for murder. the judge obliged saying he would show wagner the same mercy he showed to his victim sentencing him to life in prison plus 20 years. >> hopefully it brings them a little bit of peace. they have to move on with their life without their son or brother. >> reporter: wagner said he could sympathize with the family. he maintained he wasn't there the night karen was killed.

changing lanes. revenue from slots here in maryland probably not as high as some once thought. analysts told lawmakers in annapolis yesterday they are revising state revenue. the estimates have dropped about $56 million for the current fiscal year to $161 million at two operating casinos. analysts say the delay in opening the mall location has reduced the anticipated revenues for 2012 by about $179 million. not a bad day out there. a little breezy. certainly on the crisp side. a little chill in the air. we are taking a look at the cloud cover above. mix of clouds and sun. winds are breezy still. air temps around 60 but with the breeze feels like the 50s out there. we fall to the 50s this evening. it will stay breezy this

evening. change is on the way for the weekend. we'll talk about a fall-like outlook straight ahead. now to new developments in iraq. and the announcement today by president obama that all us troops will be out of that country by the end of the year. nearly 40,000 troops still remain in iraq. just 150 to 200 troops attached to the us embassy will remain. at its peak in 2007 more than 170,000 troops were serving in the country. more than 4400 military service members died in iraq and 32,000 have been wounded. >> as promised the rest of our troops in iraq will come home by the end of the year. after nearly nine years america's war in iraq will be over. >> republicans have warned that a complete draw down of us troops could destabilize iraq and lead to violence. the eight and a half year war

cost taxpayers 7 and a half billion. we are learning more about the final moments of moammar gadhafi's life and the images are chilling and gruesome but his death is also raising questions. roosevelt leftwich joins us with more on that. >> reporter: gadhafi's burial has been postponed and there are now calls into an investigation as to how the former libyan leader died. only a few are mourning his death. many questions are being raised about the brutal and gruesome final minutes of the dictator's life. video showing the dictator captured alive and then later shot in the head and chest. an execution would constitute a war crime. >> the t m c has pledged to investigate a full account of what happened.

>> gadhafi died as an ambulance was taking him. members say the ambulance was caught in cross fire and gadhafi was killed by a stray bullet. the coroner's report said he bled to death from a gunshot wound to the head. congressman is questioning the circumstances surrounding the death of gadhafi. >> i don't believe it was an execution but i don't have all the facts. we have to follow international law. that is what we do. that is what nato does. that is what the united nations is there for. even though you don't agree you have to bring leaders such as gadhafi and you still under international law you are not supposed to execute him because he is supposed to be brought before an internuncial court. >> now that gadhafi is gone nato's top commander says it is time for the coalition to end the mission in libya.

today is national mammogram day. the third friday of october is dedicated to reminding women to get screened. doctors and researchers have been debating the pros and cons of annual mammograms for years. the study shows women can get screened. abc 2 news is working for you tonight to answer your

>> weather looking good for the race, too, on sunday. we'll be crisp. chilly in the morning. not as much wind as we are seeing right now. high atop federal hill breezy 56. humidity low. winds have been gusting 20 to 30. pressure rising as high pressure slides in out of the west. it is a cool dome of high pressure. canadian air mass. you feel the difference out there. as we look at fredrick through the day cloudy conditions through most of the afternoon. a little bit of sun breaking through at times. similar scenario here. some blue skies and then the clouds roll in a bit for part of the afternoon. really a mix of sun and clouds. how about dc? we have nice fall color as we take a look at the nation's capitol. one of the nice finishes to the day but a cool finish with temperatures down in the 50s. most powerful radar, the sweeps show all clear right

now and our temperatures depends where we are. 62 in southern maryland. we have 36 out in the mountains. much colder towards deep creek lake. moderate humidity and across the region just fair weather clouds blowing into maryland. up north in pennsylvania there is some rain. and out in west virginia last night there were a few flakes in the high elevations but none of that going on right now. across the entire east you see the last rain shower is pulling out to the north and there is not much in the west to replace that weather maker. it looks like more high pressure. dry, cool, breezy conditions tonight and then we will see the winds relent a bit. basically means calm conditions for your weekend. bright blue skies and it will be crisp by night but by afternoon temperatures warm up to the low 60s. cloud cover will be around tonight. tomorrow i think we will call it mostly sunny. as we go into the day on sunday

researchers say moms to be should be sure to get a flu shot. a university of utah study showed women with the shot will pass the antibodies to the baby. the same study found that getting a flu vac sination will not cause a miscarriage. smoking can effect the way you look. lighting up not only damages your lungs, it can also damage your looks. smoking can cause your nails to be brittle, leave you with course hair, yellow teeth and your face will wrinkle prematurely. >> a sickened appearance to the skin and the skin becomes yellowish looking. there are definitely more lines. >> experts saying smoking

doesn't just shorten your life, it can also make you look older. and a new release study by danish researchers show cell phones do not increase your risk of cancer. the study looked at nearly 360,000 people. the study then compared the rates of brain tumors in people who use the phone and those who didn't. the report found no bad effect for phone use under normal exposure. this came months after the world health organization determined radiation from cell phones could cause cancer. log on and check out our page. you'll find health headlines as well as health categories. new details becoming public in the case of baby lisa. several people may have seen the last public moments for this missing little girl. witnesses say they may have seen baby lisa in the arms of a

him to make changes. what herman cain is is changing about his nine-nine-nine plan. abc news has learned that wins are coming forward saying they saw a mysterious man carrying a baby only wearing a diaper the night baby lisa went missing. >> reporter: it has been nearly three weeks since baby lisa disappeared from her parent's home in kansas city. abc news has learned at least three eyewitnesses say they saw the same thing in the wee hours of october 4. >> 4:00 in the morning. the baby don't have a blanket or coat or nothing. and this guy is walking down the street. i thought it was kind of weird. >> reporter: he said he called police after seeing a man in a t shirt carrying a baby. so did this woman and her husband. >> it was shocking
