the susan g. komen race for the cure. we had 32,000 out. we heard whispers of 40,000 or more. let's look back at the special sunday morning. >> reporter: they showed up in the wee hours of the morning before daybreak getting ready for the susan g. komen race for the cure. many were survivors or walking in memory of someone who died of breast cancer. the day started off with breast cancer survivors. they were posing for a group photo. >> it's my third year to be there and i was able to make the race, that was my goal was to get in the survivor race. as i was walking in it, i was almost in tear because of the cheering and showing support and love.

it renews your spirit of life. it makes you realize if you have cancer, there's a new beginning and life starts all over again. >> reporter: but before the walk, crowds gathered to have an opening exercise warmup. >> our abc 2 news team was covering the event for a two- hour live special. breast cancer survivor gave opening remarks of inspiration. >> i started treatments and was diagnosed last year. it was amazing. i want women to know to get their mammograms and early detection, better outcome. >> i'm a 15-year survivor. i'm very happy. this is my first time walking and i'm walking with my booby

buddies here. we're glad to be here. >> the runners started off with a 5k run follow bid the 5k walk and the family fun walk. this is the 19th year for the susan g. komen race for the cure. the early estimate is 30,000 people walking or running for the great cause. just take a look at the sea of pink. thousands walked in the hopes of finding a cure. >> my mother is a 13-year survivor. these are some brave people. bless their souls for the ones that passed away. >> we have a long way to go, our mortality race is the third in the country. it raises millions of dollars and helps to save lives. >> reporter: for those who completed the race, a sense of accomplishment and hope.

been bought tonight. mcbride, eden's edge is here. thank you for joining us. cheryl, lovely name. hanna, dee, lori. >> tell us what it means for you to be here tonight to support breast cancer research. >> it's exciting for us, to be a part of something that has a good cause, that makes it that much more. we're excited to be here. >> do you have any personal connection to breast cancer in particular? >> yes, ma'am, i got engaged last month and my fiance's mom is ten years in remission. that was a big deal in his family and i have seen the future of what that looks like and we're praying it keeps staying in remission and many more. >> taking the stage tonight, you'll think about her and

other survivors. >> of course. yes. and we just went up and said hi to the wonderful folks and they're sharing their stories with us, it's heart breaking and so uplifting at the same time. they're so strong. >> share with us, you were in the vip area a bit ago, who were some of the people you met? what are some of the stories that come to mind? >> we heard a story about a young lady who is 27. she was just diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. it's a thing that it affects everyone. we know someone who is affected. we have friends back home that have been affected. it's something that everybody is trying hard and working hard to create a cure to raise the money to find a cure. that's what we're here for and we're happy to be a part of anything that is helping towards finding a cure. >> that's why this event was planned. the first ever, who came up

with the great idea? >> i wish i could say it was me. it wasn't. the truth is, i don't remember who came up with it. we have always been active, always planning events. this is the kind of event that happens in nashville a lot and fundraisers and we took off from that and girls with guitars and a lot of survivors are here. people representing people they have lost. >> okay. >> that's what i'm talking about. they're going to sing a little. >> sing a little for us. do you mind warming up with channel 2? >> yes. >> 1, 2, 3, 4, can i get a thank god hallelujah. your mama called and she was right, glad to see your son alive. ♪ [ music ] ♪ [ music ]

switching to plan b and c trying to get to the race. the race went off on time. >> listen, if you have has a cooky, you're sad tonight. he died tonight at the age of 88. mr. o never complained a day in his life. why should he? he worked with chocolate. he worked 6 days aweek and married for 55 years to his wife elizabeth who passed away ten years ago. tonight or tomorrow, get one of those red and white bags, pick those chocolate chips or the paper thin sugar cookies and hold one up in honor of him. a viewing on harford road.

funeral on wednesday. the family is asking for donations to be made for little sisters of the poor. we had some scary moments at the airport after a southwest airline jet collided with a fuel truck. the plane was struck by the truck after landing at the airport from orlando. the plane was taken out of service immediately. >> all right, we have a lot of sunshine in here. yesterday we had some clouds move in in the afternoon, plenty of sunshine. i hope you enjoyed it. we can see a few clouds moving across the area, that's scenario for the rest of the evening. doppler not showing clouds, that's some good news, right now temperature-wise, a little chilly in frederick around 59 degrees, here at inner harbor at 59 and 65 in cambridge.

baby lisa disappeared. there was a witness that thought it was odd seeing a baby with that hour and he was going to offer him a ride home. he was convinced that the baby was lisa. we have all seen flash mob, a group of people breaking into song and dance routine. now flash robs have retailers stepping up security as the holiday season approaches. here's tj. >> reporter: this is the threat. teenagers swarming a business, in this case a washington d.c. convenient store. it's called a flash rob. >> in some cases, these folks come in overwhelm store employees, especially at night and get in and out quickly.

>> a holiday shopping season around the corner, many fear the number could spike. >> during the holidays we see large numbers of customers in the store. >> reporter: the flash mob is the criminal cousin of the flash mob. they're organized over facebook or texting. it's an invite not to entertain but to break the law. for the first time, the retail federation is giving advice. maintain low levels of cash many the store. monitor social networks and web sites for indications that groups will descend on a store. workers should alert managers if they see large groups of people outside or inside the

get some more steam if it heads into the gulf of mexico. we'll keep you updated on the information to see if it impacts the lower 48. the future trend, follow the time line. not a lot of change. see a few cloudsstreaming in through tomorrow. maybe a slight chance for an isolated shower to pop up in the forecast as we go through tomorrow afternoon, all an all, we should stay mainly dry. high pressure builds in across the area and that's what we like. we will have a good day of more sunshine in here and then by wednesday, we see some rain possibly. overnight, the temperatures around 44 degrees, mostly cloudy and tomorrow rolls in, 67 degrees, sun and clouds mix and the isolated shower is possible in the forecast. tomorrow night, we look at 45 degrees, clouds hovering and we become mostly clear, this is what it looks like as we go
