and jumped in to the deputy's car, forcing the deputy the shoot him in self defense. his family says it doesn't make sense since he has had numerous run ins with the law and avoids them at all costs. ethan pled guilty and mutilated two adopted cats, one was killed with a bb gun , the other nearly beat on the death. he could face up to three years in prison. news from around the station starts in indiana, 7 people died after a crash near the michigan border. the victims were in a mini van that had 10 family members in it. none wearing seat belts. it was rear ended by a tractor trailer. witnesses say the van may have hit a deer and slowed down or stopped before it was hit. one of the 7 killed was an infant which was in a car seat. it was used improperly. ten schools in greenville, south carolina were locked downive as a gunman fired on a police officer.

the shooting happened this morning at an apartment complex. the officer returned fire but didn't appear to hit anyone. the suspect was able to run in to woods. four public schools, three private and two colleges as well as a special education center were locked down. the schools began shifting to a partial lockdown and allowing some people in and out of their buildings. . band sugar land will perform a free concert in indianapolis, the first concert there since a deadly stage collapse back in august. the band was about to go on stage when a massive wind gust knocked down the stage killing 7 people, injuring dozens more. everyone with tickets is invited to the concert. a texas highway was shutdown after a tanker carrying diesel fuel burst in to flames. the fiery video seems unreal. why the fire was out, the problem wasn't over. this seems too good to be true. two hump back whales were

check out what was caught on tape in texas. this created this inferno that shut down a highway. crews were able to get the fire

under control. but the truck continued to leak fuel. the highway eventually re- opened after crews cleaned up the mess. a california man is recovering after driving his suv off a cliff. police say the 62-year-old man lost control last night and crashed through a guardrail and over the side of a cliff. the suv rolled down 100 feet traffic on the road was shut down for two hours. the man had back and shoulder pain when all was said and done. crews in washington dc today were busy pulling a deer from the title basin. in the area between the jefferson memorial and the new martin luther king memorial, officers spotted the deer in the water and called in others to help out. the deer was cold and tired but will be okay. animal control officers will warm him up and release him. this picture seems too good to be real. it shows two massive hump back wheels breeching out of the water next to a kayaker. it was taken in monster

history. the common wealth nations including canada approved a change to the century's old succession rules. under the new rules , the british monarch's first born will be sent to the throne no matter what the gender. >> reporter: in her opening speech at the common wealth summit in australia, the queen made her views crystal clear. >> to find ways to allow girls and women to play their full part. >> reporter: so maybe she didn't exactly address the whole royal succession issue but it was just as good. according to ancient laws the 16 common wealth nations also known as the roams over which the queen is the head of state must vote on whether sons and daughters should have equal rights in succession to the throne. the vote was unanimous in relation to the change. >> the time has come to change the rules so if the royal couple have a girl rather than

the boy, that little girl would be the queen were what does this mean? besides girl power, it means 200 year law will have a modern take, a rebound. the heir is the first born son under the old law. only if there are no sons does the crown pass to the eldest daughter. not anymore. take for example the recently married duke and duchess of cam bridge , the change means if the first child is a girl, she will take precedence over any younger brothers in the order of succession. it could be years before that happens before we see another female monarch. the royal family has two generations of kings in waiting. prince charles and prince william. as far the queen, well, at 85 years old, she is the picture of health and doesn't look like she is going anywhere, any time soon.

you've never dealt with unless you've run for president. every four years, new hampshire holds the nation's first presidential primary. it doesn't matter if you are as well known as president obama and vice president biden. or a relative unknown like former new mexico governor, gary johnson. today is the deadline to get your name on what looks to be a very long ballot. johnson's camp says they almost nicked it but filed in the nick of time after hopping on a ray red eye flight from arizona. as of yesterday, there were 24 republicans and 12 democrats on the ballot. at least two more republicans stopped by today including texas governor rick perry.

in consumer news, the bailout of two mortgage finance giants won't be as bad as predicted. the finance agency says the bailouts will total $124
