. heads up for the next time you shop for clothing or gas. more and more stores starting to charge you for the privilege of swiping your credit card. consumer reporter john shows why and what you can do so you don't waste your money. over the past 20 years many have stopped carrying more than a couple dollars with them. we pull out a credit or debit card for everything from gas to groceries to a cup of coffee but that is now changing. notice anything different when you use your credit or debit card? many are starting to charge extra for it. others are putting up signs requiring a five or ten dollar minimum as melissa found. >> feel like i'm being forced to buy things i don't need. >> reporter: it's all because of new rule this is year letting stores and gas stations set a ten dollar minimum for credit purchases.

past midnight we could see a few showers, southern maryland. let's talk more about that. first temperatures 55 west, 57 east, middle part of the state, central maryland low 60s. not bad, humidity not really a factor, winds are light. i want to show you the pattern. we had clouds earlier today. they are now clearing out. we will get brief clearing for the next couple hours and then the next weather system pushes in, it's a classic storm system for early november. no winter weather with this one. we don't have the cold air but this will bring in some cooler air on the back side of this thing we do look for cooler air to wrap around it and this rain shield ahead of it, ahead of the frontal boundary expected for most of this to track south of us. it's possible we could catch a little bit of the northern edge as this dives southeast. we could be clipped, maybe wet roads in the morning but not very wet and not for very long. cold air wrapping around the back side. you can see temperatures on the

facebook page in february of 2009. we were one of the first agencies in the area to do so. >> reporter: the county is relying on social media and they even have a youtube page. with in a day or two they realize they can get call was people with tips. >> reporter: its starting to pay off. >> we had two minutes of surveillance video of a man trying to break-in to a car and got several phone calls of people recognizing him. >> reporter: tipsters identified him as brandon michael smith. he was pulled over later and arrested. several cars have been broke then to in the area and this was a way to solve the problem. a 20 year veteran of the police force shooting and edits the content they put on the website. he used to spend hours patrolling knocking on the doors to see if anybody has information for police. >> with facebook and with twitter with the click of a
