in the semi-finals after celebrating the previous win with the bernie it seemed ridiculous, a perceived overcorrection that today was corrected. >> i made the decision to retract my statement regarding the boys' participation in the maryland state 4-a regional competition. >> reporter: principal roberts felt the dance was a harmless celebration for a last minute goal and not a way for the perry hall team to mock their competition. what is not ridiculous was robert's purpose behind the original ruling. >> the intent of my original decision was not to punish the students butte preserve the dignity and character of an educational based athletic program. >> reporter: and the soccer team will be disciplined by taking an online course on

sportsmanship. for now they play. moving on to the semi-finals tomorrow afternoon in montgomery county, the shot at the title these players were hoping desperately to get back. >> i was just excited we could play. i mean, it was crazy. we can play now. >> it is probably the most excited i have been in a while. >> now, that game will be at james blake high school tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. a lot of the students on this team never heard of the movie weekend at bernie's. many say they got the idea from watching the way the ravens celebrate on the field. >> this story has lit up our facebook page. just head to abc2news.com/facebook. now, switching gears. the latest on two deadly fires. the first was in northwest baltimore where a body was found inside a garage which was on fire next to a vacant home.

the home had minimal damage. arson investigators are trying to determine what started the fire. the victim has not yet been identified. the other deadly fire took place in hartford county where a father's search for his missling son led him to a farm house. >> the father's frantic search led him to the burning abandoned house on a remote farm in baldwin. that father ran inside the house which was fully engulfed in flames. when firefighters arrived they extinguished the fire and found the body of a 20 year old who graduated from loyiola blakefield last year. >> this is a shame that this is how he had to find his son. no parent should have to go through this type of circumstance. the office of the state fire

martial does feel bad. >> a propieter says the farm house sits on 66-acres of land. the owners found beer bottles and other evidence that people had been using the property as a hangout but never seen evidence that anyone had been going inside the house. at this point the fire marshall's office has found no evidence of wrong doing. meanwhile the deadly fires are a good reminder to make sure you have working fire and smoke detectors. since we set our clocks back this weekend it is the best time to check them. you should dust or vacuum the smoke alarms. push the test button at least once a month. replace the entire alarm if it is more than ten years old. make sure you have a smoke alarm on every floor of your home. prepare and practice two escape plans and plan to meet in a safe place that is a safe

carryout restaurant. a family turned in their son after seeing him in video of the crime. roosevelt leftwich joins us with more. >> reporter: the family of 17 year old jones turned their son into police last night after seeing him on the surveillance video police released on wednesday. according to police the family said they could not stomach seeing their son getting away with murder. police say joans and two other suspects walked in halloween night and shot 52 year old freddy jones, jr. as he waited for his food. the suspects took off with the $13 they stole from his pocket and police say the family turning in a suspect is something new. >> that actually struck detectives as odd. they never experienced that to this point. having said this if it weren't for the owner providing the tape which enabled us to provide you guys with the

pictures, who knows where this case would be at this point. >> jones is charged as an adult with first degree murder, assault, robbery and other charges. the man accused of killing an 18 year old last month is in baltimore county after being extra indicted back from alabama. larry horten was arrested last month charged with first degree murder in the death of ryan jackson. police say horten hit jackson several times with a hatchet. howard county police have released a picture of a man charged with sexually abusing a 13 year old. police say he worked at scissors sound hair salon. police fear there could be other victims since the salon is in a neighborhood. howrd county police ask if you have information give them a call. a sharpsburg man is headed to prison after getting busted

for growing pot in a strip mall store. 33 year old was sentenced to 5 years in prison with five more years to spend it. the landlord called police in august after finding dozens of pot plants in what was a computer business shop. investigators found 152 marijuana plants. former wife testified he grew the pot to raise money to visit their kids in florida. peter told the governor the state should not pursue lost tax revenue from internet sales. says the study conducted by his office shows businesses selling over the internet are determined to avoid paying the taxes. if there is legislation sellers still won't hand over the cash. at most the state could obtain 20 to $40 million but is more likely they would get 5 million. there is a movement for people to move their money out

of big national banks and into smaller banks and credit unions. it is happening tomorrow on what is being called bank transfer day. the national movement started after many big banks including bank of america, sun trust plan to charge consumers a monthly debit card fee. many threatened to move their money to smaller banks even though most of the banks decided to forego the fees many small banks like destinations credit union are hoping people will continue with the switch. >> we have been infiltrated with lots of phone calls inquiring about the differences between banks and credit unions. oour rates are lower on loans and they are higher on savings. and it's just a great opportunity. the atmosphere in a credit union is very different from a bank. a warmer more welcoming atmosphere. we have been receiving a lot more new member enrollments.

he wandered off from a park and vanished. spoke to the relieved mom about her emotional ordeal. >> it was really hard. >> reporter: barbara says it was the worst six days of her life, that it would be for any mother. >> it was like time stopped. >> reporter: her eight year old son had gone lost in a battlefield park while in the care of his faither and his father's girlfriend. days past. volunteers came to search for him. locker remembers her surprise when she saw the long line. >> all the people. i couldn't believe for my son to be missing and then for everybody to come together like that. >> reporter: she went into the woods convinced that her son could hear her. >> i screamed for him and screamed for him and i walked and screamed for him some more. >> reporter: after no reply no

robert. on friday morning she said she lost hope. >> i dropped to my knees and i said i give up because i knew he wasn't going to survive another night. >> reporter: hours later she would learn her son was found alive. she rushed to the hospital. >> he reached his hands to my face. his hand was really cold, really purple. he was scratched up. >> reporter: robert is now out of intensive care and recovering, possibly going to come home this week. cards and banners with words of comfort await robert at home. she says if she has ever doubted miracles or human compassion she doesn't anymore and she is grateful for that. she wants to thank as many as she can. many of the parents who came to help, who sent letters, some who have autistic children themselves. more than that she wants to hold her son at home and keep on holding.

towards southern maryland and temperatures running in the mid 50s. winds 10 to 15. 17 at the beach. take a look at some of the gusts at the top of the hour. we gusting to 23 in places like fredrick and 24 in dover. here is a look at some of the rain activity. most of that skirting just south of our state. places like virginia beach down through richmond did get a little rain earlier today. as we bring it out you can see that whole storm will continue to kind of head out to see. rain still likely if your travels take you towards the carolina border. there are some areas of rain still to be found down that way. that will skirt east as high pressure begins to build in. that is going to mean more sunshine and temperatures to the south even cooling off with the area of cooler canadian air. the trend will clear us out tonight and into the day tomorrow we'll look for more clear skies and clear skyathize

story into sunday. we want a little more detail to that and we want to look at some of our local events. >> there is a lot to do this weekend and the weather looks like it is going to cooperate, as well. let me first take you to the maryland bridal and wine festival. you can see there will be lots of tasting of food and we are going to be seeing that in the wine. this is definitely going to be your one stop shop. we will take you to a cruise. this is going to be a november cruise on saturday from noon until 2:00 p.m. maybe you don't feel like doing the cruise. maybe we'll take you to the cider mill farm. it is the fall harvest festival days. this will be the last weekend for you to maybe do a tractor ride, maybe a hay ride. it is definitely going to be a fabulous time. it will be open from 9:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon.
