january. you all remember the earthquake that hit back in august. it is what you haven't felt that might surprise you. according to the us geological survey there have been more than 600 after shocks from the quake. the most recent was yesterday morning that registered 2.3. geologists saying the strength of the quake had not been seen in a century. looking at tonight's top stories. the perry hall boys soccer team will play in the state's semi- finals after all. the school's principal reversed a decision to end the season. he said they wouldn't play based on a post game celebration dance. a fire in hartford county claimed the life of a 20 year old man last night. the state

fire marshall's office has yet to find any evidence of wrong doing. in baltimore city police have arrested a 17 year old. the parents of jones turned him into police last night. they apparently saw him on the surveillance video released by police earlier this week. investigators are still looking for other suspects who were involved in the murder of freddy jones, jr. at you brothers carryout in north baltimore. weatherwise things have been pretty nice. winds picking up a little bit. you can see the showers that we are tracking just south of us are now pushing south and east even farther. wind gusts up around 28 in spots at our weather bug site statewide. annapolis 28. temperatures running in the low 50s. so temperatures will be cooling off pretty rapidly into the 40s

as clouds continue to decrease. we'll talk much more about the outlook for your weekend straight ahead. news from around the nation starts in west virginia where a post office was evacuated where they thought a package exploded. emergency units rushed to discover the explosion was from a malfunctioning florescent light bulb. x-rays revealed the speccing package actually contained cookies. 15 people were quarantined for a short time. in glendale, arizona, fire destroys a cotton warehouse overnight. dozens of firefighters rush to the scene outside of phoenix but the flames were too much for crews. they surrounded the building and tried to keep the fire from spreading. no word yet on the cause. and it is now a waiting game in california for doctor conrad murray. his fate is in the hands of the

jury. the jury has just one charge to deliberate whether michael jackson's doctor contributed to the pop star's death. prosecutors are sure they will get a conviction. jackson's body guards say the star was close friends with the family. the state says jackson's death was a crime whether or not the jury agrees. legal experts do not expect a speedy verdict. and the tsa plans for x-ray body screeners. tsa says the scanners are safe but an article in business week says the agency has never conducted its own research. we have shown you quite a few close encounters people had with whales off the california coast. this one might take your breath away. we'll show you how close two pumpback whales came to kayakers. and do not try this at

check out what was caught on camera. a couple of kayakers got a gigantic surprise. two humpback whales jumped out of the water. it is common for them to lunge out. it happened the person filming was yards away. >> thousands of pounds flying up in the air right next to you. you are a sitting duck basically. >> scientists believe weather patterns have driven fish closer to shore this year and brought the feeding whales with them. in washington they were trying not to have a close encounter with wild life. you are looking at a large black bear wandering across a neighborhood. just in time the bear ended up in the parking lot of an elementary school. that bear was shot with four tranquilizer darts putting him to sleep. do not try this at home.

has centered around republican presidential candidate herman cain. all week the headlinevise surrounded two women who accuse cain of sexual harassment. tory joins us live from washington dc. >> reporter: we have a lot of news to get through. a lawyer for one of cain's accusers came out this afternoon and issued a statement on his client's behalf. he described his client as being very anxious over the past few days. he says the complaint included several instances of sexual harassment backige 1999. he acknowledges there was a monitary settlement. he told us his client has a husband of 26 years and they see no value in discussing this any further than that statement. he says his client stands by the complaint but doesn't want to relive this.

>> mr. cain my client filed a written complaint in 1999 against him specifically and it had very specific incidents in it. if he chooses to not remember or not acknowledge those, that's his issue. >> so here is the response from the cain campaign. it says we look forward to focusing our attention on the issues in the country like fixing the economy as well as strengthening national security. now the question is how much is this going to effect herman cain. if you take a look at the poll you'll notice that cain is right behind romney, 1% difference. a lot of questions still to be answered. >> we are also hearing that the cain campaign is considering taking legal action over all of this. what can you tell us about that tonight? >> i think considering is going
