find if your car is on that list. first tonight, the child sex abuse scandal at penn state has cost the legendary coach his job. he announced he will retire at the end of the season. he said he was devastated by the case. the former coach jerry sandusky has been charged with molesting 8 boys. the board of trustees could still force the coach to leave immediately. it could also take action against the president of the university. we have been covering, very emotional for the students and staff at the university but it's a situation hitting close to home. he has been there for more than 40 years. ty is live with the latest from the state college. >> reporter: good afternoon. for decades penn state football

was the gold standard on how a ethical program should be run but now this scandal has claimed a coach and possibly its president. after six decades it was not how the coach wanted to announce his retirement. his players took it hard. >> emotional people right now. you know, you feel like maybe closer to getting what he deserved. >> reporter: he will step down after his 46th season as head coach. he is doing so under increased pressure from the school's board. many believe the 84-year-old didn't do enough back in 2002 when he was told the form jerry sandusky was involved in inappropriate behavior with a 10-year-old in the locker room showers. he told officials but not police. the coach said i wish i had

done more. also under fire for not reporting him is the penn state president. he is expected to resign or be voted out by the end of today. >> i have urged the board to deal with this quickly and swiftly. i. >> reporter: as for sandusky more alleged victims have reportedly come forward after he was charged with abusing eight young boys over 15 years. both the president and head coach say they were never told the seriousness of what happened in the locker room in 2002. reporting live. >> thank you. closer to home the department of corrections needs your help trying to find an inmate who walked out of central booking.

avoid buying them from one site in particular. >> reporter: real jerseys are special and run about $300. if you saw them half that price you would probably get them. one of the sites that sells what looks to be knock offs is now in big trouble with the bbb. official raven shop.com claims to sell real ravens jerseys but the bbb is calling them into question saying there are a lot of red flags. the biggest right there the bbblogo on the bottom of the page. the website is not an accredited business so now the bbb is working to shut down the website because of what they call deceptive advertising. there is no phone or address to be used if you have a problem, the wording on the website is in broken english and they are registered to a company in chain a. the bbb believes they are selling possibly counter fight jerseys and using real names to help them do it. >> we have concern about a

website that is using bbb logo the good name of the nfl and the ravens and it's an illegal good they are trying to sell. >> reporter: if you want to figure out if a jerseya is a knock off look at the stitching if the logo is sewn on or glued on. find out who owns the website and make sure they have contact information. if the site uses the bbb location go over if and if you can't click on it that's a big flag. if you are online or on the street if they are dirt cheap it's probably a fake and you will get what you pay for. >> great information. thank you. more problems for toyota tonight. they are recalling 420,000 vehicles because of a potential problem with the power steering. if the system fails the car could become harder to steer. the cars involved are some

it helped the state pass several laws. mitten is now in a loving home and continues to recover but her story and the impact of it has won her the honor of being named cat of the year. the aspca will honor her later this month because of her story and the change it helped bring. >> the folks who went down and testified to get these bills passed held up these huge posters of mittens, covered in the burn cream and had her kittens in front of her and i think her case helped sway some of our state lawmakers. >> reporter: the aspca thought so. it also thought highley of some of the people and the work they did in baltimore city to combat animal abuse. we will explain that and tell how else will be awarded coming up tonight. >> thank you.

. the president is working to broaden the no child left behind with his own school reform. they are inviting state that agree to overhaul low preforming schools to apply for relief from the 2014 deadline. we talk to local teachers about

it. >> reporter: here in classrooms the goal is to build a world class education system that prepares students to compete in a global economy. the bush administration signature education law was intended to do just that. these days the obama administration plans to make changes to no child left behind by overhauling low preforming school. as many as 45 states including maryland expect to see waivers. >> i think that -- changes that are being proposed will be welcomed by school districts and state departments of education. however, i think what's really important is that the responsibility factor for school systems across the united states remains the sameful. >> reporter: the ball administration plans to waive some of the toughest requirements including that every student be proefficient in reading math by 2014 or face

sanctions. the administration would require states to adopt changes that could include the expansion of charter schools, links teacher evaluations to student performance and upgrading standards. for many they won't see their teachers fired, the principal removed or schools shut down because some failed to test at grade level. there is a difference of opinion on whether this is a good idea. >> i think again its not a fix. it's another example of congress and the president kicking the can down the road. we need a reauthorization of no child left behind. i think the waivers are irresponsible because of the time we know we need a fix. >> reporter: some say fixing no child left behind is four years over due. lawmakers crafting a reform bill to give students a better education. >> its clear there are a group

of students who have been left behind. the education bill should provide the support to those students and teachers so they can catch up. the waiver doesn't do that. there is no intention to redistrict the responsibility. from a state per view we welcome that and our waiver will be collusive of making sure we are responsible for all subgroups many. >> reporter: he says maryland schools will be prepared to lead students to academic success. >> we are about the task of working with every one of their superintendents to make sure that the focus is on raising the floor, making more courses available and then challenging our students, all of our students to be the very best they can be with the end goal

mid60s but still tough to complain for november with all the sun and again just a moderate humidity. winds southeasterly and that can capture a cool breeze off the water, down at the beach and in the baltimore area. across the area right now we have two different areas of cloud cover, one front to the west, that's pushing in, then we have the outer bands of shaun kind of playing a factor in the weather. we will continue to watch, monday tomorrow as the systems close in. it looks like shaun will stay off shore and appears that these showers will be broken and perhaps not very prominent through the day tomorrow as this front pushes through. maybe a few showers, windier, colder, like lie it won't produce a lot of rain and just hit and miss showers as shaun continues to move off shore and looks like things will clear out for veterans day friday but a chilly and breezy day with temperatures struggling out of 409's on friday.

. in tonight's health alert the economy is taking a toll on many people but for older people it's especially the men. it's not just financial but serious health implications. financially stressed seniors particularly men and those with limited education are drinking and smoking more. researchers looked at more than 2300 people 65 and older and

found those with money problems were 30% more likely to drink heavyly. father hood helps dads break bad habits, that's what a new study found. men limited their alcohol and smoking after having a child. fathers in their 20s and 30s showed more of a decline compared to men who were dads in their teens and early 20s. the 19 year study assessed more than 200 men between 12 and 31. men are less likely to commit crimes also after having children. that's good news. you can find salt in a lot of food and tonight we have tips to help you cut back a little bit on it. eating salt can raise your blood pressure which really puts you at higher risk for heart disease and stroke. the american heart association said most of us eat twice the daily recommended amount of salt. there are ways to avoid to much salt. you can start by reading the
