>> it sounds like the plot of a movie but last night an asteroid came really close to hitting earth. and it's only wednesday but this week has been a busy one. the latest on the accusations against herman cain and a preview of the debates. first tonight hundreds of people in the locu is, t point area are still without natural gas but repair crews working on the break and hope to get the gas back on as soon as possible. we are in locust point with the latest. its been a long time. >> reporter: there is a lot of work going on in this area. take a look behind me. there is a lot of bge crews cutting holes in the street for the past half hour. right now bge crews have started going door to door in most of the neighborhoods to cut the gas back onto hundreds of homes and for many its been

a very, very long few weeks. no gas, day three. crews have been at it nonstop as they try to make repairs. with the gas cut off and no hot water or heat some are frustrated enough to boil their own water. they are angry a lot of older people have had no heat for so long. >> it's not right for them to have to deal with that. i -- i don't -- appreciate their -- and i don't appreciate their outlook on how the people should be treated. >> reporter: just down the street the people are worried. >> we have the electric oven and can keep open. it's a little cold but not that bad outside. at least it's not the middle of the winter. >> reporter: bge says the gas will be back on tonight. for most of the day they have

been purging the gas lines removing the air to repair the lines. after that the slow process of turning on the homes will start. >> about 900 customers on the eastside of the bridge that we will start restoring today and that's labor intensive because we need to go into each home to safely introduce the natural gas service to each customer. >> reporter: now if they miss your house what is going to happen is they will put a calling card on your door, if they miss your house tonight. they do that and all they wants for you to take the card, call them and they will send someone out. they want to try it get as many on as possible and will work through the night so when people get home they will get your gas back on as soon as possible. reporting live. >> thank you. let's look at tonight's top story. penn state head coach says this will be his last season with the team. he has been under a motorcycle

they say no injuries have been reported so far. today baltimore city is one step closer to becoming a bike sharing city. at the weekly board of estimates meeting the mayor announced the approval of a agreement with a company called bcycle. it provides bike sharing programs for several stills. it'll help complete the alternative transport system. >> i'm looking forward to it. i just got back into cycling myself so i hope to get out there. >> reporter: the city is already started other programs like the charm city circulator and the zip cars. maryland is among 32 state that will receive grants as part of the veterans transportation initiative. the united states deputy of transportation was in baltimore to make the announcement todayt. will be used to create better hack social access to

. two tanker trucks clydeed on a busy freeway leaving one dead and shutting down the interstate. authorities evacuated at least two hotels and several businesses because they burst into flames after the crash. the accident is still under investigation. several people jumped in to a river to help a young boy and

they needed help too. a man jumped in after the 2- year-old but couldn't keep above the water. another man tried to help and a cooler was thrown into give them something to grab onto. they eventually got out safely with the little boy. and a minnesota woman wanted a new fur coat but didn't have the cash so a camera inside the fur company captured the trip as they stuffed a 6,500-dollar mink coat under her skirt. an employee stopped her and called the cops but she hid the coat so well they couldn't find it. eventually she came clean and is serving a two year prison sentence. sciencists didn't get a lot of sleep as a monster asteroid nearly hit the earth. and cain still making headlines but the allegations aren't the only story making the rounds. what other stories people are talking about.

there. take a look. temperature 55 degrees, winds southeast at five, it's a cooling breeze this time of year and i think that helped keep temperatures down. we had a sapphire blue sky. carroll beautiful day, just a few high thin clouds late in the afternoon. same in frederick and it looks like gaithersburg saw a clear day for all afternoon and then the high thin clouds on the horizon just before sunset. that is before 5:00. sunset at 4:57 tomorrow. how is that? the radar sitting clear. temperature wise mid50s now. temperatures will drop off but not as sharply tonight. we only made it into the low 60's on average today. humidity still nice and dry, again that light southeast wind working against the high temperatures. we see showers going though west virginia, some of that rain could survive and make it into our area tomorrow.

heavy snow up toward wisconsin on the back side of the storm so it's a nasty winter storm for northern portions. it should drop the temperatures on the order of ten to 15- degrees. we will strug until to the 50s and to get out of the 40s before we start to warm it up as that front arrives in the cold air arrives late in the day tomorrow. off shore, what will be left of shaun will bring rain and some big waves off shore of ocean city. right now looking like most of that rain will stay off shore and again things clearing out for veteran's day but a chill yearer day for all the parades and such on friday. the satellite showing shaun, a well organized system for this late part of the hurricane season. again not going to be a big impact on the weather. we don't think. 48 with increasing clouds tonight. not as chilly with the cloud cover. that will help hold temperatures up over night. shouldn't see as much fog either. 55 degrees tomorrow.
