cent bottle tax to five cents. >> save our youth. >> reporter: the community organization dedicated improving schools rallied in support of the bottle tax increase. the mayor's proposal would raise the 2 cent tax on beer soda and juices to 5 cents per bottle -- bottle. last year the city raised the bottle tax to 2 cents and drew opposition from retailers and those in the beverage industry saying the hike would kill their business. the mayor says raising the bottle tax to 5 cents could generate up to 11 million dollars a year. money that would be used to improve city schools. members of build say they will fight for the bottle tax increase until it is approved and called on the corporate community to do the same. >> the mayor has responded by asking for an increase of a bottle tax to 5 cents to cover new school construction.

now "good morning maryland." powerful winter storms pounding the denver area with snow and heavy winds. winds blowing near 100 miles per hour during the weekend. the conditions made driving dangerous and accidents were blamed on the snow. winter storm warnings were in effect until midnight last night. the central and northern mountains of colorado some areas saw as much as 16 inches of snow. 16 inches justin. >> that's up in the mountains.

portland police confronted demonstrators and two officers were injured in a clash. on sunday police began dismantling parts of the camp. authorities say unsanitary and life-threatening conditions in some camps and it attracts drug users and crime. in philadelphia the mayor increased presence at occupy camp outside city hall after a woman was sexually assaulted in a tent. occupy felly has changed -- philly has changed. we are seeing serious health and safety issues playing out on almost a daily basis. the people of occupy philly have changed. in their intentions have changed. >> reporter: from san francisco to salt lake city to denver calls are intensifying for protesters to give up the occupation leaving the camp or face arrest. sherrie johnson abc2 news. herman cain's wife is speaking out about the alleged sexual misconduct made against her husband in the allegations.

earthquake in august. more than 2000 worshipers gathered to hear theer isman by a newly ordained female bishop. august 23rd a 5.8 quake damaged the cathedral. repairs are going on and the cost for restoration is in the tens of million of dollars. justin. 5:49. we are starting pacific northwest with rain and snow into the mountains of washington state pushing heavy snows across the northern sections of the rockies and that's big sky country they are not watching here. but i wanted to let you know what he happening across the nation. now to the southern plains. rain into western texas and any rain in texas is good news after the drought they have had to deal with. much of central and eastern texas will be under the threat of severe weather as moisture from the gulf mexico interacts with the boundary and is going to get active today and tomorrow and right up the boundary we have got some pretty moderate rain showers pushing through eastern illinois and indiana and ohio.

and this is wrapping around an area of low pressure on in through central ontario. that was our geographic tour. but i wanted to show you all that because in response to those showers, we pushed rain to our north but the clouds and through most of maryland you noticed the building yesterday. those debris clouds offshooting from the storm system and really more of a nuisance than anything else. they have kept the temperatures up into the mid-50s overnight and this morning. we will watch the rain pass to the north today. in fact, we may be breaking up the clouds and slip some sun through any bit of sun couldboost us a little bit warmer than the warm day we are expecting. the boundary itself that front is a slow mover but it will be nudging closer to us and will be more an overcast condition with showers and possibly that could develop especially central and northern maryland heading through midday and the afternoon hours. front gets more active and a wave of low pressure along the boundary will pass on top us on wednesday and i do believe wednesday is going to turn out to be a very wet day maybe

heavy rain at times. check out the wind field and you will notice the southerly push through tomorrow. and the front may swing through with a westerly wind and resurge out of the south with the wave of low pressure enhancing the rainfall on wednesday. 67 breaking more sun you could get close to 70 although winds get close to 20 miles per hour. down to 53 a stray shower tonight. isolated showers tomorrow and more rain on wednesday. 60 falling into the upper 40s and low 50s for the end of the week. tanya. we have report of a broken down car on the jfx northbound at ruxton road. let's look at our live traffic cameras. this is the beltway as frederick road and southwest side a little heavier with the outer loop to the left of the screen. no incidents though so that's good news. 95 north of white marsh the southbound traffic is heavier. that's to the left of your screen. no incidents there. keep in mine the off-ramp reopened 59 south at emmerton that's route 24. and roadwork is complete.
