and they are hunkering down and the city and police department informed demonstrators that all city property is now off limits to campers. and in portland, organ a. police stand off with protesters went on for hours. police arrested more than a dozen people and cleared city parks of camps. portland's mayor says there's been no serious injuries during the four or five times police have taken action. but a protester says the mayor is doing the wrong thing. in denver, police andn riot gear arrested 17 people as they cleared furniture tents and personal belongings from a camp there. and in philadelphia, the mayor there says he is putting more police near the occupy philly camp. and he says many of the original protesters are gone. the intentions have changed and it's bad for the city. >> occupy philly has changed. we are seeing serious health and safety issues playing out on almost a daily basis.

this morning at 11. she is due to hold a press conference to talk about the five cent bottle tax proposal. ♪ five cents for our children. >> reporter: on sunday hundreds of members from build a community organization dedicated to improving schools rallied in support of the bottle tax increase. the mayor's proposal would raise the tax on beer soda and juices to 5 cents per bottlech last year, city raised the bottle tax to 2 cents and drew strong opposition from retailers and those in the bern ink dust try saying the hike would kill the business. the mayor says raising the bottle tax to 5 cents would generate up to 11 million dollars a year. money that would be used to improve city schools. members of build say they will fight the tax fight for the tax until it is approved. >> we have nowhere for the kid to go. at all. for the past quarter of a century we have been without

nothing at all. >> reporter: now the 5 cent bottle tax if approved it would go into effect in july of 2013. live at city hall, linda so, abc2 news. governor o'malley took on the national stage on face the nation. he talked about how the gop is shaping up for the upcoming election. >> what was really disturbing is how little serious thought many of the republican candidates who hold themselves out as the commander in chief responsible for managing this big complex organization how little thought they had given to what it is they would actually do. that's what i took away from the debate so far. there's been no new ideas about job creation and no new ideas about growing the middle class and no new ideas about reinvesting in the great idea of america. o'malley goes onto say that why we will see a rise in the candidates like herman cain because they are being lobbied as protest votes again the -- against the establishment.

jeneen dawn and chonsay green were shot and killed late friday night in the parking lot near dave and busters. the victims were shot in the head and pronounced dead at scene. early saturday morning witnesses led police to district heights where they were able to track down the shooting suspect 22-year-old james coleman at his house. that's when coleman walked out the fronted door with an ak47 in one hand and shotgun in the other. one officer was shot in the face and leg before police shot and killed coleman. >> started letting off round after round on the ak and he hit one of the cops in the head and after he did that they wasn't having that and they shut the whole party down. >> reporter: the officer who was shot is expected to be okay. as for the suspect james coleman he had a lengthy criminal record including multiple counts of robbery aircrafts salt and gun charges. corinne redman, abc2 news. a problem schools are battling is to stop bullying

and today a school systems will be coming together in ellicott city. sherrie johnson joins us live with that story. >> reporter: this morning teens from school sis testimonies across the state will gather in how -- systems from across the state will gather in howard county for a bullying conference. it's the second year -- for thevent. they are electric about the latest research and practices in school safety. they will learn straties how to empower students to help -- strategies how to empower students and to help stop bullying. last year in maryland, there were reported 3,000 incidents in every school district. now bullying hurts and can cause problems for children as they grow up. now that conference kicks off at 9:00 this morning at the turf valley conference center in ellicott city and go to abc2news.com and click on the education tab to bring you to this page about bullying. we have a page for it. click on here's one story right

interview with diane sawyer a gunman shot her 10 months ago in arizona and she has been recovering ever since. a private funeral today for heavy "d." it's at church in mount vernon a suburb of new york city e died in a l.a. hospital last week after collapsing outside his home. he died at 44. in dc, the national cathedral opened sunday to a crowd of more than 2,000. it's been closed for repairs following the east coast quake. repairs are being made and expected to cost in the tens of millions of of dollars. russian spacecraft carrying a american and two russians blasted off successfully on a mission to the international space station. after months of delays, the craft is set to dock at the space station coming up on wednesday. and howard county construction begins to stabilize the sidewalk today along frederick road between rogers avenue and ellicott mills drive. the procorrect is expected to be -- project is expected to be completed by early december.

sunshine during the midday and early afternoon that can shoot temperatures up higher than we are going. but no doubt we will be above normal for today. and we will stay above normal for the next two days. the front itself starts to spill at least a chance of showers and midday and tomorrow afternoon. and the real action is here on wednesday. a wave of low pressure around the front could actually generate moderate to heavy rain throughout the day on wednesday. that will slow the front down but behind it we get into chillier air. southerly wind ahead of it tries to pass through tomorrow morning. and you will notice the winds shift to the south and then build back in right along the boundary on wednesday. now that is the wave of low pressure once that does swing on by, and we will pull in strong winds out of the northwest and really take that temperature way down by the end of the week. enjoy 67 today. and a little more sun could get you up to 706789 gusty winds to 20 miles -- 70. gusty winds to 20 miles per hour. chance of showers slight but we build those in and we head through wednesday with a chance of rain. 61 on thursday.
