appeal to university president wallace lowe. >> one of the things that this school prides itself on is 27 sports, and that say last lot for the institution. >> reporter: with the department losing more than $7 million a year, a commission formed by the president to review its finances says it should cut eight of the programs from men's tennis and tract to acrobatics in addition to swimming. >> to see this team be cut is just devastating. we've worked so hard just in the three and a half years that i've been here and our coaches do so much for us. it's an emotional thing. >> reporter: the commission recommend honoring the college scholarships if their sports are eliminated but the offer rings hollow to many. >> i've known nothing else since then, so they may give meet money but what mi going to do.

>> reporter: some sports put the university in the hole along with building boxes. the students choose to point out what's at stake if sports are eliminated. some members of the swimming team are poised to make an international hall splash, if only their program can continue to tread water. >> we have at least eight or nine people who have already qualified for olympic trials and are planning to be here. >> reporter: at college park, jeff hager, abc2 news. >> now the swim teams have already started an online petition which has gone -- gotten more than 5,000 signatures. among those who signed, michael phelps and katie huff. a maryland student has been chosen as a national finalist for the wendy's high school ease

man award. danielle king, a student at c milton wright was chosen as one of 12 finalists it. arecognizes honors in academic and athletic service. each will receive a crystal high school heisman's trophy, $10,000 donation to the respective high school. all right. let's take a look at tonight's top stories. former penn state assistant coach jerry sandusky talked about the child sex abuse allegations. he said he showered with boys and hugged limb but called it horseplay. he is accused of sexually abusing eight boys over a

12-year period. after dodging us for weeks. abc2 news joce sterman had a face to face man in a paving scheme. tommy clack is charged with acting as a contractor without lap license. clack has been banned from business in two other states and clack was supposed to enter a guilty plea in anne arundel county but has backed out. a community in pasadena is upset over a proposal to put hundreds of new homes or apartments along with the commercial development. a zoning change would allow developers to build a large commercial development and housing complex at the intersection of long him and mountain road. development would tear out 26 acres of woods along the long hill area road. neighbors in long him want their

night the baby disappeared. >> reporter: now there's a phone call out there, that lasted less than a minute. it came in just after midnight from a cell phone debra bradley claimed was stolen from her house. they do know the person called megan wright's phone. police took her cell a questioned her. in october she told "good morning america" she never took that call and when she got the phone back the call log was deleted. a drifter named dane, said dane seemed agitated and had easy access to drugs. >> covering up something for a friend. >> reporter: now the private investigator said this new lead supports his client's innocence but police say, so far, this is

one of 1,000 tips they've been chasing. they want to talk to dane. they say he is not a suspect. thanks a lot. police in washington state have a new development in the missing of a 2-year-old. he has been missing for more than a week. he was last seen with his mother. so far, she has refused to cooperate. meanwhile, there's an online dating profile. it matches so-called sugar daddies with mommies with sugar babies. on it a personnelled jb said she is looking for financial stability and assistant. the site's owner said there's no way to determine if the profile was created by the child's mother. according to the site, the last time jb accessed the account was october 26th. that's 10 days before sky disappeared. a family with a daughter in hospice knows that time is not

tonight people in southern indiana are cleaning up a big mess after a tornado hit. the storm's 95-mile-an-hour winds uprooted trees, tore off roofs and shattered windows. a year ago this month part of the square burned to the ground during the huge fire. the town was starting to recover. talk about dazed and confused. this deer stood in the middle of a busy road for about a half an hour until the sheriff's deputy came to the rescue. the dash cam captured the ordeal. he carried her to the side of the road. the deer eventually relaxed and

sprinted into the woods. >> the spirit of christmas arrived early in iowa. when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, her family wanted to make sure she didn't miss christmas. they started decorating her hospice room. the word spread on facebook. in a matter of days, some 900 christmas cards arrived -- the true spirit of christmas. the polls keep going up and down but as you get close to the primary, they're hitting the usual ground. if you plan to fly for the holidays, we'll tell you what to look out for.

have you noticed annoying pop-ups when checking your facebook page? sometimes they could be accessing your personal information. we have tips to help get rid of the facebook apps. >> reporter: have you ever noticed these notices? it could be a result of your facebook apps. notices from your favorite news sites. they also bring access to your personal information and it may be doing it without your knowledge. here's how you check and delete them. go to your facebook page. in the upper righthand corner you'll see the home site where you can check your account settings. on the lefthand side you'll see apps. it's about the fourth item down. here's a number of apps that i signed up for. some i didn't know i had. i-photo upload. what you'll see is all of these
