auckland, new zealand. on the right hand of your screen, his name is john bellinger. he was out jet skiing in the water when he saw this bird struggling and having a little bit of trouble. he jumps off of his jet ski, he grabs the bird and is swimming the bird back to his jet ski. that's a gannet. this gannet was tangled up in fishing line. we actually have john bellinger via skype right this minute to tell us about this brave act. when did you first realize that little guy was in trouble? >> it's really strange. i was jet skiing. you can see the nylon fishing line around his feet. that doesn't look right. i hatched a rescue plan to unhatch this bird. >> how did you catch him? you look like you did it with ease. >> saw him on the rocks sleeping, he hadn't woken up and i thought i could jump off the back of the jet ski quietly and grab him. he woke up.

he turns around and pecks me. goes from swimming away from me to coming at me with his feet. i'm not sure if you can see it, a small mark across my wrist there which is -- looks like a gannet's mouth. that's when i grabbed him by the mouth and tried to pull him back to the jet ski. >> when you free this bird from the fishing line and see him fly away, what's that feel like for you? >> oh, i mean i'm still today. it took five or six minutes to cut the fishing line, because he was flapping around. i nearly lost him. when he jumped in the water i was really happy. he sat up in the water and flapped his massive arms. i don't know how long he had been caught up in the fishing line. he went off and went for a swim and i got pretty happy about it. >> you remember the story we brought you a little while ago about scott olsen, the veteran who was injured in the occupy oakland protests by a police projectile. he was admitted to the hospital

with a fractured skull, swollen brain, and he has been released. fortunately he didn't have major, major injuries. his speech is impaired and through some therapy, he will be able to regain his speech. he has released a statement on-line and he says, i'm feeling a lot better with a long road in front of me. after my freedom of speech was quite literally taken from me, my speech is coming back, but i've got a lot of work to do with rehab. he goes on to say you'll be hearing more from me in the near future and soon enough we'll see you on the streets. oakland police chief howard jordan has opened an investigation, although details of what happened have not yet been released. >> speak to us a little bit more about scott and how he's doing, we have his uncle george on skype. so, tell us how scott is doing? >> he seems very cognitive, he's really looking forward to life,

instead of feeling sorry for imself, he has a geatpress any anger toward the police? >> not that he doesn't feel that someone is culpable on what happened. as far as showing any really great animosity, i can't detect that he has any of that, no. >> has he said anything about the fact that he's become somewhat of an unintentional leader? >> i think, you know, i detected a little bit of trepidation. i think he thinks somehow fate has put him in a situation that is now his duty to do the best for the causes. >> scott posted a photo of himself of what he looks like now. what was your initial reaction when you first saw that photograph? >> i guess i was really surprised, because as bad as initially it looked, he looked really good. most of the time when someone breaks into somebody's home they're in and out as quick as they can. right? >> usually f they're a smart

criminal. we specialize in dumb. >> this is tamara henderson next door when her son called, 11-year-old son called and said, there's somebody in the house. the person who was in the house, was 44-year-old terry trent. he was apparently high on bath salts. her 11-year-old son called and said there's somebody in the house. >> the candle was lit on the coffee table, the tv was on and very loud. the candle on the kitchen table was lit. i see the wreath hanging on the back door to the garage. >> he has the holiday spirit. >> yeah. he might have been having a couple other spirits. the report goes on to say that he was actually really polite. >> he said to him, i'm sorry. i didn't mean to scare you. let me get my things and i'll go. >> he did have a pocket knife on him and he was charged with burglary. >> police say drugs may have been involved. >> yes. yes. there's a shocker. >> a 16-year-old in georgia was arrested after he got stuck in a

family's chimney. according to the atlanta abc affiliate, firefighters were called to the scene around 3:00 a.m. responding to a call because they heard somebody screaming in the chimney. turns out the guy was there trying to rob the place. they rescued him by throwing a rope down the chimney, pulled out the aspiring burglar who was then promptly arrested. holiday travel season is right around the corner. many of us when we go to the airports like to use our portable devices, ipads. when you see free wi-fi pop up you're like i'm in. cnn reports maybe it's not a great idea to use that free wi-fi. they say better check and make sure what you're using. they had a hacker set up a free wi-fi. >> i will go and set up a fake wi-fi. once they connect to it and they start surfing the internet, now what i'll do is just grab all their traffic.

>> nerve-racking and aggravating because this is such a convenience we all like to use. >> yeah. >> and, of course, there's criminals lurking, waiting to steal your information. >> if they go to their bank it will grab their banking information. if they go to facebook, grab that, twitter account, writing love letters i can grab all of that. >> a hacker can do that anywhere where free wi-fi is available. they say check the provider of the free wi-fi. if the wi-fi costs money they suggest go ahead, pay the money. it's going to be more secure. change your passwords frequently. we always hear that no matter what you do. if you are using a free public wi-fi at the airport or anywhere else, think about what you're looking at on your laptop or ipad or whatever you're using, maybe it's not such a good idea to check your bank balance and make on-line payments when on one of these free spots. >> this thanksgiving season, william shatner and state farm want you to eat, fry and love.

like it doesn't end well. this is 40-year-old maris playing with his pet hippo humphrey. over the weekend, humphrey carried maris. he bit the former army major, dragged him under the water, in the vaal river in south africa. ironically, it's the same river that humphrey was rescued from during a flood years ago, and then he adopted humphrey and raised him as a pet. >> he rescued the hippo and he, you know, took care of it. i give him that. >> but they're not your friend. they're not your pet. >> the man said, this is a quote, they think you can only have a relationship with dogs, cats and domestic animals but i have a relationship with the most dangerous animal in africa. this guy used to do stuff like this with the animal, be you know, in the water riding this
