sick. maybe you're feeling it. 45 right now in northeast. 49 bel air. seems to be one of the warmer spots at bel air high school. roads are a little bit damp with recent rain. 43 mount airy. still hanging at 50 in annapolis. check out the doppler radar. you're getting wet in anne arundel county. we'll push it up 95. bel air you've had some sprinkles. added dampness to the roads. i-95 back down towards annapolis, severna park, bay bridge getting wet. we've had moderate rain and snow flakes in the mountains. we could get a couple of snow flakes. nothing will stick. the only thing that will stick are the 40s. temperatures will stay in the 40s. strong winds this afternoon. i'm going to start out with the good news. 83 southbound right before mount carmel an earlier accident is cleared out of the way. that is great news. taking a live look at our traffic cameras starting out on 95 southbound at 32 through

savage starting to get some volume through laurel but nothing to worry about just yet. on the beltway a different story. it's slowing down on the outer loop at liberty road as you make your way through the construction zone. the delays will start before old court road near 795 and lap around toward ed monson. drive times are affected because of this. if you're traveling 95 southbound to the beltway, that will take you about seven minutes but the west side of the beltway between 795 and 70 is up to ten minutes. penn state sex abuse case continues unfolding after jerry sandusky's recent radio interview. another person has now stepped forward with claims of abuse. abc2 news sherrie johnson is live this morning with new information in this case. sherrie? >> reporter: charlie, a pennsylvania lawyer representing one of the alleged victims in the penn state child sex abuse case says his client is pursuing charges after hearing jerry sandusky's comments on a recent radio interview. sandusky is the former penn state assistant coach accused of sexually assaulting boys.

the attorney says his client is feeling more comfortable about going forward. he says sandusky's comments have motivated alleged victims to testify against sandusky. meanwhile pennsylvania governor tom corbet is defending how he handled the case against sandusky. corbet was pennsylvania's attorney general when that investigation was handed over to the state about two years ago. corbet says they couldn't arrest sandusky immediately because it takes time to build a case. >> i have done child predator cases. we move them as quickly as we possibly can. there isn't any governor in recent memory to me in this state that has done more to protect children than me so if you think i delayed it for any reasons, you're wrong. >> core pet said he can't comment on -- corbet said he can't comment on reports that only one investigator was assigned to the sandusky case while he was attorney general. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. students in california say

they're outrajed regarding a decision to bump up tuition at state universities. dozens of demonstrators showed up outside the board of trustees meeting room. at least three people were arrested. the tuition hike will take effect next school year. it's expected to raise student costs by $500. this video just out of tempe, arizona. apparently the pooch was on parade. he was in the back of a car involved in a crash. the dog somehow freed itself from the wreckage and took off running around the scene. state officers eventually cornered that dog on a median and returned it to its owner. again that is video out of tempe, arizona. president barack obama landed in indonesia about an hour ago after spending two days in australia. before he left early this morning, he had a fun moment talking about health care. >> i know the training commissions around here are tough, at leeps that's what i've -- at least that's what i've heard. big open spaces, harsh weather

welcome back. are you already making plans for your weekend? if not you may want to head downtown for a holiday celebration. the campaign is called it's a waterfront life. the science center, the aquarium, power plant, all the restaurants and shops around the harbor are taking part in the festivities through november and december. the mayor says the campaign will help draw people downtown despite the cooler temperatures. >> because we are creating this basically this winter wonderland at the harbor and we are creating a destination that i know residents and tourists will enjoy. >> it's all part of it's a waterfront life campaign. the city will put on a holiday light show at the power plant. the first viewing is set for saturday night. important news this morning for chase customers. the bank is now scrapping three

6:44. good morning maryland. i'm charlie crowson. a lot to get you ready for on this thursday. sherrie will tell us why the tsa is backing off a health study involving body screeners. and live with the latest a sexual assault case allegedly involving a teenage girl and linda so is live with the occupy baltimore protesters and how they're going to mark the two-month anniversary of their movement. first let's check in with meteorologist justin berk. we have our highlights this morning. we'll start off with temperatures. we started date in the 50s. we already had our high temperature 49 in baltimore. 37 back toward altoona. we've got a surge of some rain. a little push of energy along the frontal boundary. it has really taken its time to push through the region. snow showers back into the mountains. for them they may get minor accumulation. back here in snow shoe, west virginia. for us we could mix in some flakes. we are basically to have ourselves a look at showers this morning with some snow

flakes but no stickage. you heard that here first. temperatures falling through the low 40s and gusty winds this afternoon. 83 southbound in mount carmel we had an earlier accident. there are now residual delays there coming down 83 southbound once you get to warren it should be okay. this is the northwest side of the beltway. the outer loop completely stopped pretty much right near 795 at old court road. once you get around to baltimore national pike, it should be a little bit easier to get by. no issues by the time you reach frederick road in catonsville. happening right now a live look at new york this morning where we are 14 minutes away from what's called the beginning of a massive international day of action by the occupy wall street protesters. this is a threefold event in the big apple. first at 7:00 a.m. they're said to be taking on wall street directly and impeding the progress of those who work at the new york stock exchange. that is set to begin again at 7:00 a.m. from there there will be taking over of the subway systems

across all five boroughs and finally they'll be taking back foley square for later today. all of this has been planned and executed by the occupy wall street protestors but closer to home, let's join linda so with the occupy baltimore movement with what they have planned for today. >> reporter: charlie, things are pretty peaceful but later this afternoon at 4:30 they plan to rally on the howard street bridge. they picked this bridge because they say it's structurally unsound. they want to bring attention to it and make sure the city does something about it as far as repairs go. but again back out here live at occupy camp, things are pretty peaceful. we've seen a couple of officers walk through. they do that every morning just to make sure nothing unsafe is going on here but again no movement as far as some of the other cities you've seen earlier this week where police have moved in to try to clear out these camps. nothing like that happening here. again these protesters plan to rally at the howard street bridge at 4:30 this afternoon

to mark the two-month anniversary. we're live in baltimore, linda so,abc2 news. [ audio difficulties ] two bullets actually hit the white house. authorities say there are indications hernandez was upset with president brack and the white house. police need your help trying to track down four suspects who they believe kidnapped and sexually assaulted a teenage girl. the whole thing happened two weeks ago. we're live this morning outside police headquarters with the very latest. >> reporter: this incident happened more than two weeks ago but police exhausted nearly every lead in this case. now they're asking for the public's help. these are the two composite photos police released of the two suspects from a description given by the victim. they want you to take a good look at them in order to help track down the suspects.

police also released a description of the car and say it's a late model sedan with tinted windows. here's what we know so far. this all happened around 3:00 in the afternoon on november 1 just as students were leaving woodlawn high school. police tell us four men drove up in a car. one of them got out, threatened the 15-year-old girl with a gun. then forced her into the front seat of the car. then covered her eyes. the suspects then drove the girl to an unknown location where one of the men sexually assaulted her. now, we're told the suspect later took the girl to woodlawn drive and released her where she ran to a nearby police station to get help. police say if you have any information on this case, you're asked to call metro crime stoppers. reporting live from baltimore county police headquarters in towson, abc2 news. a consumer alert for parents this morning. a build a bear workshop accessory is now being pulled. it's the teddy bear swimsuit set. the inner tube toy can fit around the neck of a child and pose as a strangulation risk.

about 20,000 of them have been sold. build a bear received one report of an incident involving a 3-year-old girl who pulled the inner tube over her head and had difficulty getting it off. this just into the abc2 newsroom. smucker company is recalling 16 ounce jars of its smuckers natural peanut butter chunky brand. it's being recalled because of possible salmonella contamination. the ohio-based company says the jars covered in the recall would have been purchased about a week or so ago. they have a best used by date of august 2012 and august 4, 2012. the product was distributed in maryland and for more information, including production codes on the jars, go to our website abc2news.com. check your e-mails closely. if you got one from delta airlines it may be a scam. people are getting messages saying they purchased a delta ticket and they have an invoice or receipt attached to the e- mail. if you get it do not open it. delta says it will always be --

it could be containing a potentially harmful virus for your computer. delta says its e-mail communications with travelers always end in the at delta.com. news time now is 6:50. new for you this morning your hybrid vehicle could be good for more than just protecting the environment. it could be protecting you. a report out from the insurance institute for highway safety says people riding in hybrid vehicles are less likely to be hurt in a crash than people in nonhybrid versions of the same car. research believes the lighter weight of the car gives it an advantage. >> the study shows that consumers don't have to choose from fuel economy and safety. going green doesn't have to mean skimping on crash protection. >> a separate study shows that pedestrians are at risk because hybrids are so quiet. now the government is working on a regulation intended to add sound effects to the hybrid so they can be more readily heard as they approach intersections or parking lots. new for you this morning looks like the transportation security administration may not end up doing an independent

study on airport body scanners. an abc2 news sherrie johnson is here to explain why. >> reporter: new this morning the tsa is backing off body scanners because it says a soon to be released report claims the machines are not harmful. a tsa administrator says he has no concerns about the safety of the machines. he says independent scientific organizations say the back scatter machines give the same amount of radiation that passengers are exposed to during a three minute in flight. some lawmakers are pushing for an independent study on the health effects of the scanners. they hope tsa does not back away from doing a study. sherrie johnson,abc2 news. they've been memorable for troops returning stateside. operation welcome home will greet the troops arriving on three flights throughout the day at bwi. the first flights did arrive at 5:15 this morning. the second comes in at 2:00 this afternoon. and then a third coming in around 4:45.

five things you need to know on this thursday morning. president barack obama is in indonesia. he spent two days in australia where he addressed parliament. he's going to attend the east asia summit. baltimore's mayor will announce the launch of the summer employment campaign later today. the announcement will take place at the arboretum at 5:00 p.m. maryland's health department wants to reduce cigar use. it scheduled a news conference today to launch a new tobacco campaign. they say -- [indiscernible] the event will be held at the vocational technical high school. the mayor will be joined by governor martin o'malley to launch the kickoff of the star spangled 200 bicentennial celebration. that's set for today at 11:30. a new sonic drive-in is set to open in rosedale and they could use your help.

they will be hiring more than a hundred full and part-time employees at a number of different positions. some people living in montgomery, alabama will be cleaning up. severe weather rolled through that part of the city and state. the high school football field suffered considerable wind and tree damage. officials reported a tornado touched down destroying four homes and downing a number of trees. justin, this is that storm system we talked about yesterday. >> we were talking about it yesterday in the deep south. it's cold air that actually ignites the eruption of storms as it bumps into warm air. atlanta is down to 53. we've got 49 here in baltimore. 30s and 20's back to the west. a surge of winter air coming in. hope friday no more tornadoes today after 16 reports yesterday and now it's all about mod ran rain regenerating south carolina and southwestern virginia. the hokies getting wet. snow back into the mountains of west virginia where they may pick up a few inches in snowshoe. we are getting that push of cold air. you can see the development

here of these showers as they do roll up along and ahead of that frontal boundary. behind it we have some showers as the cold air tries to spill in and catch up to it. while we're watching some of that stuff into the mountains action we could have a few flakes mixed in this morning. no despair. there will be no stickage because there should not be enough and the ground is too warm. basically a nuisance to some and a gleeful sign of the upcoming season to others. we have a threat of showers around here at least through midday and the clouds will try to linger through the afternoon. sun sets 4:50, 4:51. right around that time or so we start to break up the clouds. could make for a beautiful sunset but makes for a clear and chilly night and then we usher in the dry air for the rest of the weekend. a little bit of an improvement this weekend. some showers this morning. some rain showers maybe mixed with some flakes. strong gusty winds. i'll be talking about wind today. 47 degrees but temperatures falling with 30 mile per hour winds. 27 will be the number tonight on the thermometer.
