that it would be the target of robbery and intimidation. it's the season and you can see the spirit of the holidays in the decorations in area goodwill stores. it's also the season for criminals and now they have targeted secondhand stores. >> see steal from goodwill. it's like taking from the collection plate at church. you don't do that. >> they should beef up security. that's the best thank to do. >> reporter: that's what goodwill is doing after an armed robber struck at this joppa road on friday and then again five-days later, a separate store has also been hit and the chief operating officer said it's unprecedented for a nonprofit devoted to helping people who need it the most. >> we provided 16,000 people with services, support

services, training, job placement services, just this year alone and it's disturbing that in this economy we have seen a greater need that we would see, these robberies happen. >> reporter: also with in the last week an armed robber struck five times in three separate counties including this 7-11 on belaire. he even robbed a gas station, apparently undeterred by huge numbers of witnesses and security cameras, each stop along the way. >> all of us can be at risk whether we are shopping at a mall or in a convenience store or whatever business you have, a thrift shop or high end type place. we all have to be crime prevention minded. >> reporter: it's the season to protect yourself. >> nothing is really safe anymore. we have to always look, hold onto your purse. >> reporter: abc it news. >> goodwill has 26 stores in

ahead. >> thank you. occupy protesters in new york took their demonstration to wall street, putting themselves in the front of bank buildings, trying to stop the start of the day. police were aware of the plan and were out in full force pulling them out the way and arresting some of them. demonstrators got their point across, shouting at bank employees and anyone who would listen. >> i say they make to much money and the lady that clean toilets more nothing. it's wrong. >> reporter: they did manage to shut down the new york stock exchange but closed an entire section of a block away. some were asked when they would consider their occupation over they said when the government starts creating jobs. as the days pass more of the people involved in the penn state sex abuse scandal are

coming forward. jamie is here with the latest. >> reporter: as we continue to shake our heads over the down fall of penn state one woman has come forward to say she saw the signs many years before. her name is deborah long. she is the birth mother of a boy adopted by sandusky. she said she was suspicious when he started mentoring her son matthew who he eventually adopted. she felt powerless because of his position. >> any 10-year-old kid will be impressed by penn state football. it was the gifts, money and clothing. >> reporter: she said her son claims he was mota boss, at least two victims say they will move forward and testify despite denials and all the national attention the case is getting. >> thank you. the man accused of firing at the white house last week is now charged with attempting to

kill the president. he appeared in court today for the first time since his arrest yesterday in pennsylvania. now if convicted he could be sentenced to life. today is a great american smoke out, devoted to urging smokers to kick the habit. the department of health has a new warning about teen smoke that parents need to hear. we are live with the details. >> reporter: while studies show a significant decrease in cigarette smoking among maryland teens cagar smoking now making a push. it's why the department of health chose the day of the great american smoke out to warn people. in the last decade there is been an 11% increase in smoking cigars. you can buy them in just about any convenience store and the department said more and more

salmonella contamination. they have best use by dates of august 3rd 2012 and august 4th 2012. the jars were sold in several states including theory in maryland. about 45,000 kids brands know it all shoes being the heel can loosen and the sharp edges pose a cutting hazard. the company has about 27 reports of cuts so far. anyone whose child has the shoe dear sir contact their parent company, collective brands for a 30-dollar gift card. and about 160,000 chirp's animal slippers also on the recall. the animal eyes can come off of the slipper and could cause a choking hazard. they were sold at family dollar stores nationwide and can be returned for a full refund. and hybrid cars may be a

. well tomato past and french fries are vegetables, according to congress. the final version includes provisions to count the paste on pizza and french fries as servings of vegetables. that's despite recommendations by groups to change standards for in school lunches to reduce the sodium and increase whole foods to combat obesity. conservatives say the congress shouldn't be telling children what to eat. trend. there are a few very light patches of drizzle just in northeast cecil, a little bit of rain in northern delaware perhaps, lot of that may not be touching the ground and a few winter showers well west. 39 at the beach, 28 in oakland. that represents a 20-degree range or almost a 20-degree range across the state. the cold winds will start to funnel in the chilly conditions out there. we are just getting started on the drop in temperature. we are talking upper 20s by daybreak. the wind chill factor very cold with a numbers feeling like the 30s. tomorrow we will look for a slow column in to the midand upper 40s. more sun, that will be a good thing. the trend is for clearing, out to the west we have a couple of scattered winter showers out toward garret. across the east right now couple things, first that rain

we had last night. that's now safely out to sea, sometime still hitting places like cape cod massachusetts. northern michigan and into south and northern ohio and northwest eastern pennsylvania getting it all there are winter showers continuing to come off the great lakes, they won't reach us but maybe will impact western parts of the state. right now again you see the impact of the november cold front. 43 baltimore, 63 charleston but that cold shot poised to move in as we go in to the night. the early part of the morning, cold times, they are down to around the freezing mark and that's not the wind chill. our trend basically showing clearing conditions overnight. crystal clear, crisp cold frosty night as we go into friday sunshine should help warm it up and then in to the day on saturday, lots of sun

again. increasing clouds by sunday but the weekend will remain dry. 28 degrees tonight. mostly clear, a much colder situation, tomorrow the two degree guarantee, 46, mostly sunny and chilly and then tomorrow night temperatures dropping to 27, clear and that cold air will hang on for one more night tomorrow night before temperatures start to change here in the outlook. let's show you the outlook. seven day forecast, the bottom line is temperatures will run cold by night, a lit the better by day but we are in the 50s on saturday, up to 60 or so on sunday for ravens game day. looks like a great day down at the stadium. the thanksgiving time frame, right now looks like a lot of the shower activity may be gone by this big travel day wednesday and then right now thursday looks good at the moment. a little hard to say but turkey day and ravens again on thursday night. >> big turkey bowl too next

be parents. >> reporter: he is doing what others are doing. turning to new mobile monitoring software that lets parents set up internet controls for almost any device. basic software can be bought for a few dollars. there is more advanced protection that can be found for under $70. some companies offer a free mobile upgrade to existing subscribers while others charge a small monthly fee. >> the software that's available now is able to monitor pretty much any style of communication. you can monitor sms messages, texts, e-mails, you can even monitor gps location. >> reporter: maybe are you worried about bullying. a study found that more than half of teens have experienced cyber bullying. while monitoring software can capture calls, e-mails, chats and texts, they can make sure your child isn't a target. here is another example, a study found 30% of young people

have engaged in sexting. lue be able to see all the photographs sent and receive from your child's phone. parents have the picture of who their kids are talking too. what kind of media and where they are. while it's advancing to keep up with the kids, experts suggest you still consider communication as your first line of defense. >> you have an educated parent, educated child and open line of communication, monitoring and research software, things to follow become less important. >> reporter: roger trusts his kids but says it's still important to be aware. >> we -- able to watch for trends that may be developing that we should know. >> reporter: and most of the software is not meant for secret spying. due to issues in some cases teens may need to give their consent before it can be put in on their mobile device.
