crash is under investigation. we told but a story last night at 11:00, today pardon state police are investigating a school bus crash that sent 20 people to the hospital, a bus, car and truck happened insane mary's county, the students were from great mills high school and returning from a basketball game in virginia. 17 people including the bus driver and another adult and 15 students were treated and released from the hospital and two people in the car including a 13-year-old girl were hurt, the truck driver, john vitiz was arrested for dui. almost 4 million travelers are taking to the sky and others are hitting the roads to get to grandma's house but it won't be easy. >> the traffic is delaying. >> it the country is being pounded by two major storms, one in the northeast bringing heavy rain and flood warnings

the seat and there are were more than a dozen warnings after the recall. the seats are helping infants to sit up with their head. americans will sit down tomorrow but they should think twice about canned vegetables and cranberries. jamie has more. >> you nailed it right about the cranberry sauce. we are going to talk about this. everybody knows it is bpa, a common chemical that is used in plastic products and in the lining of the cans. the bpa keeps them from spoiling but it may be creeping into your food and researchers at harvard compared people that ate one 12-ounce can of soup for five straight days with people that ate fresh soup and what scientists found is surprising, a massive increase in the level of bpa in the urine of people that ate the canned soup and more than 1,000

percent and after two days without soup the bpa levels were down to normal. >> the consumer cannot tell how much bpa may have gotten into the food in any canned food item that they pick up and the story here is that you don't know and you can't know. >> well, 93% of people have detectable levels of bpa in their body but doctors don't know what the effects are in all of us. back in 2009, the leading baby bottle manufacturer said they would stop making baby bottles over these concerns and the national institute of health is looking into the potential health of bpa exposure. the best way to protect us is to eat more fresh and frozen food. as millions travel for thanksgiving, some will have a a little more ease of mind thank to a new app.

for thanksgiving students in carroll county are showing gratitude by feeding the homeless. we head to the academy to see how they are making a difference. >> reporter: here at the academy students are participating in a gratitude for leadership program, as thanksgiving appproaches the entire school is showing gratitude, students performed skids and show gratitude and discussed the meaning of thanksgiving and what they are thankful for. >> part of our mission at the academy is to respond to the needs of others and making a positive difference and one way that we are doing that today is by teaching our students the value in giving our time, talents and treasures to those that are less fortunate. >> reporter: after the assembly it was time to roll up the sleeves and get to work. students made 1000 peanut

butter and jelly sandwiches to feed the hungry, the program serves five homeless shelters and has over 400 clients, students are providing bagged lunches for the men and women that often go hungry and they collected household items and canned goods and clothing. >> i think it is a good opportunity to help the people that don't have food so they know we do care for them. >> we all know that we are fortunate and grateful for what we have but it is more important to give back. >> reporter: the academy's mission involves developing student leaders with strong character that makes a difference in the community. >> we want our students to walk away with the feeling that today i did something for someone less fortunate. today i walked away knowing that i trulily helped someone

temperatures beginning to drop and you felt the difference if you have been out in the last few hours and a frigid one as temperatures drop to the freezing mark and the steady winds northwest at 12 to 16 will begin to diminish and it will still be breezy until we get towards say dawn tomorrow. highs today getting into the mid-60s out there and north and west cooler and we will see nothing like that tomorrow, upper 50s probably at best. we final get back in the 60s as we go from good friday into -- not any friday, black friday into saturday. getting a little ahead of myself. showers northeast of us and the trickiest travels are in new england where they are getting snow in maine and new hampshire and getting the rain in boston, newark, new jersey and new york city and right into the new england states so this is the tricky travel spots but if your going west, all you got to deal with is dropping temperatures

in tonight's health alert we are talking about energy drinks, more people are ending up in the emergency room after drinking them. the substance abuse and mental health services administration says between 2005 and 2009 er visits climbed from over 1100 to more than 13,000! about 44% of those visits came after people mixed drinks with alcohol or drugs. now the beverage industry says that things are taken out of context and say that energy drinks are safer. >> most of us leave our diets at the doorstep for the turkey

dinner but there are helpful hints. skip high calorie wines and liquors and don't eat the turkey stuff and stuffing has up to five hundred calories per serving and if you make it les weighty by using chicken stock instead of cornbread and stuffing is leaner if cooked outside of the turkey and potatoes are high in sugar and cranberries are good but the sauce is loaded with sugar. eat the pumpkin part of the pie and not the crust and take a walk before or after gobbling down dinner will help.
