patterson park are preparing for the festivities where you find corinne redman live with what's on the menu. >> reporter: we are live outside the patterson park recreation center where volunteers are underway. tons of food are inside and this is the 30th year for the bea gaddy annual thanksgiving dinner. everyone who remembers bea gaddy knows she was a huge advocate for people in need in the homeless and she made sure every thanksgiving if you needed a plate you could come here and get it. joining us live is bea gaddy's daughter sandra chandler. so tell me first about your mother. what was -- what would she say if she saw how big it gets? >> every year this year alone, 30 years i think she would jump -- she is jumping up and down real fast and happy you know. 30 years that's a big accomplishment. and you know, we feel good that we stuck in there was hard but we still have to do it you know. >> reporter: what do you say

about the volunteers and donations you get every year? >> truly, truly a blessing. this is the day god has made and we must be glad and rejoice in it. >> reporter: and how many people do you expect today you say 50,000 meals will go out. >> approximately maybe 50, a 55,000 meals going out and 35,000 for the shut-in and senior citizens it's automatic and a bag of food. you know for everybody to take home. bea gaddy fashion outlet and get clothes. everything is free. >> reporter: it sound like a great event and such a good event and so glad you can do this for the community especially on a day like today when people don't have a hot meal. it will take place today fromfrom 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the peterson park recreation center. come down and get a hot meal. corinne redman, abc2 news. if you are looking for something to do for the holiday weekend, the maryland film festival is running a retrospective of barry levinson beloved baltimore based movies.

and calories you are getting in the particular meal that will help you reduce your portions. >> a lot of extra fat and calories can come from the sauce and greaivey but they are so good. she says don't overdo it but add taste especially with the gravy and remember that your meat portion should be no larger than a deck of cards and mashed so tateo should be the size of small apple or tennis ball. to hear a few more tips, skip the high calorie wines and liquors. don't eat turkey skin where most of the fat resides and stuffing is named as there are 500 calories in one serving of stuffing. and stuffing is leaner if cooked outsighted turkey and you want to -- outside the turkey and eat part of the pie. crust is where the calories are and always avoid grazing throughout the day. the people weren't worried about being healthy on turkey day i can't. i have to keep my script up. that is turkey eating competition.
