now, we're not dealing with cold air now. let's start out cda4ñinto the satellite and radar, while we're dealing with cloud cover. that is the reason why temperatures are so mild this morning. as we look back towards the west some showers moving into ohio now and also into western pennsylvania. but as we go through the rest of today while we'll be starting to see the showers in the forecast, in the meantime temperatures this morning are on the mild side. check it out, 46 degrees now into baltimore. this is where our high temperatures should be now for this time of year. we see 58, 57 to charleston. and these temperatures are just going to get higher from there. as we check out what we have for the rest of today. the showers are definitely going to be moving in throughout the day with the temperature coming in around 57 degrees. as you head out and about this morning take the rain gear, if you can't get back home to grab the rain gear. angela has traffic. good morning. >> good morning. this thursday morning, we've been talking all morning about the serious accident on route 2 solomons island road at polling

house road. we're now getting reports that pole and wires are down across the roadway. a couple of alternates you may want to try. harwood road orroute 255 to get you around this incident. in the meantime, we're still looking pretty good making the drive on u.s. 29, no problems to report here at maryland 108. also, a live look at u.s. 50 at the bay bridge. no problems on 50 coming from the bay bridge all the way up to i-97. and, if you are making the drive on the beltway we're looking pretty good here at greenspring avenue. back to you. baltimore parents are taking action this morning after they say their son was bullied and taunted by children in the city of baltimore. and educators did nothing to help. abc2 news' sherrie johnson is live downtown with more on this developing story. >> reporter: there has been a cry across the country to try to put an end to bullying. all kinds of campaigns going on. this morning one family is sending that message out loud and clear. there's going to be a trial right here at courthouse east behind me.

that trial is set to begin in just a few hours. the sullivan family has filed a lawsuit against the school board of commissioners and the principals of both hazelwood and glenmount elementary school. seana and egunned sullivan say their 10-year-old son sean was bullied by two classmates at two baltimore city schools. he's a special needs student. the parents say he was tormented by classmates at hazelwood elementary school and the school system did nothing about it. the couple says they went to the principal numerous times but the bullying wasn't stopped. the last straw they say was when their son was attacked outside of the school. the couple say he was choked until he passed out and they moved their son to glenmount which was also a problem. the bullying continued and they say they received no help from administrators. the parents hope this trial will send a message for school systems to put a stop to bullying. i had a chance to talk to the

baltimore city schools spokesperson and she tells me that basically the school district does not comment on pending or active litigation. again, that trial starts at 9:30 this morning in courthouse east in room 528. reporting live in downtown baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. a deadly fire near pittsburgh claims the life of a mother and three young children ages ranging 3 to 7. the victim's twin, the 3-year-old did get out of the home. firefighters attempted to rescue the family but were pushed back by the severity of the flames. the cause of the fire was children playing with a cigarette lighter. the report indicate the children lit a mattress on fire and it burned out of control. >> a company says 20 miners have been removed from a deep mine in northern idaho. after a rock burst caused injuries to the miners.

it happened in the lucky friday mine, one of the deepest in the united states. seven miners were hurt but are expected to be ok. two died at the lucky friday earlier this year, those were in separate events. a store owner received the surprise of his life after a car crashed into his building in nashville, tennessee. eric whitaker plowed his pickup truck into the building because he was trying to run down his ex-girlfriend. yeah. the store surveillance video shows he missed the woman but the car collides with the store owner and clerk. they are both doing fine. the suspect ran from the store, stole an suv and it craches that into -- crashes that into a bread truck. the driver is in critical condition this morning. police say an suv driver left behind the scene of carnage in arlington, texas. a 27-year-old man now faces charges of intoxication, manslaughter and murder. the man with his twins in the back seat, police say, hit two cars, sped awayened plowed into more vehicles a block away killing the driver. the suspect then shot and

killed the man in his suv. the two children are hospitalized but expected to be ok. police took the suspect to a hospital for a checkup, then took him to jail. an attempted robbery stopped by a coffee pot and the suspect is now behind bars. the man climbs through a drivethrough window of a coffee shop in pennsylvania. the owner's wife grabbed a container full of coffee and hit the man in the face with it. that didn't slow him down. so she grabbed a jug of steaming hot milk and whacked him again. that is what coaxed the man to finally leave. >> i'm proud of her, the way she fought him off. but i think once this sinks in i am going to wish she just ran out the door as they did after she hit him. >> the suspect john hamill is charged with robbery as well as charges relating to the stolen van he was driving at the time. it doesn't matter the time of year, these stories never get old. we're going to take you to north carolina where a soldier

staff sergeant returns to north carolina from afghanistan months earlier than expected. that gave matthew mccarter a chance to give his little boy quite a surprise. during his son's time in the school play, dad sitting behind waiting. matthew's friends went on stage to sing the song called "home."

welcome back. u.s. defense secretary leon panetta is in iraq now where he's taking part in a ceremony shutting down the u.s. military operation there after almost a decade of war. the ceremony began about 45 minutes ago and mr. panetta is

also scheduled to take part in a q & a session with u.s. troops and hold a press conference with the top american commander in the country, general austin. all the u.s. troops will be out of iraq by december 31st. president obama pledged the u.s. will continue civilian assistance for iraq as it faces an uncertain future. the $660 billion defense bill passed the house yesterday and ensured president obama's ability to prosecute terror suspects in the justice system. the legislation authorizes money for men and women in the military as well as weapons systems and the millions of jobs they generate in the lawmakers' district. the report is out about marriage in our country. the findings are nearly half of u.s. adults aren't married which is now at a record low. corrine redmond is standing by with more. >> reporter: pew research conducted the survey finding marriage is at a record low in

the u.s., it seems like marriages like this one are becoming fewer and farther between. the census bureau in 2010 found just over half of u.s. adults were married, that is down from 2009. and it also shows that men and women are waiting until they are older to get hitched. on average, women waiting until age 26 and men almost 29. they say if the trend continues single people will most likely be the majority in a few years. corrine red mopped, abc2 news. >> it's our hot topic for the day, what do you think about the survey and what does it say about our values as americans? if it says anything at all. go to the official abc2 news facebook fan page, weigh in with your thoughts on the state of marriage. if you're in the the market for a new car today there's a list to help you sort out the choices. the insurance institute for highway safety has come up with its list of the top safety picks. more than 200 models were put to the test. there's a new number one earning that top rating.

held at the historic national shrine of the basilica of the assumption of the blessed virgin mary. the proceeds of the program benefit the catholic charities senior housing communities. tickets are around $100. time to check the forecast with lynette. >> all right, the weather pattern for today? well, we have some rain back to the west there. you can see it cutting through the ohio valley all the way into tennessee at this time. some of that will make it towards us as we go through the afternoon time frame but it won't be to the afternoon and evening that we start to get some of it in here and it won't be a lot. as you're heading out the door temperatures aren't really so bad. as we start to back into des moines that temperature coming in around 37 degrees. that is where the cold front has already passed. that is going to make it into our area as we go through the weekend. in the meantime 54 into cincinnati. 46 baltimore. that should be our high now for this time of year. we're going to get much warmer than that. mild air ahead of that cold

front, behind it the cooler air moving in. we do the chance for the showers in the forecast. i'm calling it scattered in nature as we go through the afternoon. you can see that line breaking up as we get closer to 3:00, 4:00 in the afternoon. on the back side of it chillier air moving in, maybe snow showers across northwestern pennsylvania, not maryland. 57 degrees for a high today. mostly cloudy and mild with some afternoon showers. by tonight still showers lingering possible. it's going to be cool, not cold with the temperature around 42 and then 49 degrees, mostly cloudy and windy as we go into tomorrow. a check of the 7-day forecast, as we get very breezy on friday and a little colder as we go into the weekend. angela, how's traffic? >> on the roadways right now we continue to follow this very serious accident on route 2 solomons island road at polling house road. the roadway is blocked, police are trying to clear out downed wires, downed pole at the accident scene.
