the harrisburg expressway. just five minutes from cockeysville. back to you. a new report is out about marriage in this country and the findings are nearly half of u.s. adults aren't married and that turns out to be an all-time record low. corrine has more on the results. this is sort of a surprise because this is a pretty precipitous drop as well. >> reporter: it's a big drop. 51% they are saying. it's a big change. the report says marriage in this country cropped to 51%. pew research finds the marriage is at a record low in the u.s. and scenes like this one are becoming fewer and far between. and we looked at census bureau data from 2010 and found barely over half of u.s. adults were married, down 5% from 2009. the data shows also men and women were waiting to get older to get hitched. on average women waiting to age 26 and men until they are almost 29. if the trend continues, they say single people will most likely be the majority in just

robert champion died last month following a suspected hazing incident. a student, bria hunter says she was beaten by a group of former band members weeks before his death. >> they went around the room asking people, do you want to be a part of this organization? >> hunter says yes and ended up being hospitalized with a cracked thigh bone. new video of a fire near pittsburgh. we first told you about this at 5:00. the fire killed a mother and three young children ages ranging 3 to 7. one child, a 3-year-old victim escaped. the victim's twin, rather, escaped, this happened after midnight. the suspected cause of the fire, the kids were playing with a cigarette lighter. the freeway outside of l.a. is still shut down following a

massive gasoline tanker explosion. it happened late yesterday afternoon. the concrete on the overpass also exploded from the heat of the flames. police say the driver and passenger were able to escape without injury. a police officer pulled an unconscious woman from a burning car following a crash. this is dash cam video from wisconsin. the 51-year-old driver was treated and released from the hospital. police are investigating the crash but say it was probably the result of the driver's medical condition. some dramatic video for you from nashville. a man piles his pickup into a store because he was allegedly trying to run down his ex-friend. we're not making that up. ex-girlfriend. video shows he missed the woman but hit a store owner and clerk. they are doing fine now and authorities say the suspect ran from the store, stole an suv and crashed that suv into a bred truck. bread truck. the driver there is in critical condition this morning. a man accused of trying to rob a coffee shop is in custody. the entire incident caught on

camera. the man pulled up with a face mask on. he had a tire iron in his hand and lunged through the drivethrough. >> i'm proud of her the way she fought him off. but i think once this sinks in i'm going to wish she just ran out the door. as he did. >> he's talking about his wife who fought off the guy. what she did, she grabbed a thermos of hot coffee and clugd him in the face with it. he was wearing a face mask. it didn't stop him. then a pitcher of steaming hot milk apparently did the job. the suspect took off, was later arrested. shopping for a new car? you're probably thinking of safety first. a list of the top cars the insurance institute for highway safety says could be safest. and the most popular movies of all time on netflix' list.

camouflage. this is arm tradition. the -- army tradition. defense secretary leon panetta says they are leaving iraq with lasting pride. anne arundel county police are looking for a man accused raping a woman. authorities say it happened yesterday in glen burnie. the victim met the suspect in a war, they were walking near the 300 block of hospital drive when she says he sexually assaulted her. police say the suspect has tattoos on his neck, twists in his hair and if you recognize this man call anne arundel county police as soon as possible. police in the dc are going to hold a news conference, announcing a campaign to catch a man linked by dna to murders and assaults in the dc area. a web site will be made today drawing attention to the case. the men is suspected of nine attacks on women between 1991 and 1998 including the murder of a 28-year-old woman in georgetown. a new study shows rape and sexual abuse are more common than most people think.

the centers for disease control and preagainst surveyed 9 -- prevention surveyed 9,000 women and 7,400 men. the women said at some point they have been violently attacked by their boyfriends and husbands at some point. view the entire survey at abc2news.com. an offensive survey involving a rape in the university of vermont, a fraternity now in hot water. corrine with more on how this happened at the university and moreover what the university is doing with this group. >> reporter: this fraternity could be expelled as a result of this. the fraternity house, who and what may have been behind the fraternity asking the fraternity brothers if they could rape someone who would it be. a document surfaced on-line earlier this week. uvm temporarily suspended the

fraternity and to make matters worse the fraternity is already on probation for alcohol violation and could face additional violations. >> it's technically free speech and yet it's deplorable and just absolutely inappropriate and offensive. >> it may be in this instance where there's this dynamic of only if you knew about this, we don't know yet or did the whole chapter know? we have many questions. >> reporter: the university could dissociate themselves with the fraternity and says it will consider expelling students behind the questionnaire. corrine redmond, abc2 news. a report from the center of education shows nearly half of america's public schools failed to meet the federal achievement standards this year. it's the largest -- the report says that more than 43,000 schools or nearly half

didn't make progress from the school year. some baltimore parents say their son was bullied and taunted by children and are now saying the baltimore city educators did nothing to help. education reporter sherrie johnson is live downtown with more on this developing story. >> reporter: there's a cry across the nation to put an end to bullying and this morning one family is taking that message to court. we're in front 6 courthouse east where the trial is stoat begin in a few hours. the sullivan family filed a lawsuit against the school board of commissioners and the principals of both hazelwood and glenmount elementary school and middle schools. the parents say their 10-year-old, sean, was bullied and taunted by classmates at two baltimore city schools. sean is a special needs student. his parents say he was tormented by classmates at hazelwood elementary school and the school system did nothing about it. the couple says they went to the principal numerous times but the bullying wasn't

stopped. the last straw they said was when their son was attacked outside of the school, they said he was choked until he passed out and the couple then moved their son to glenmount which was also a problem. the bullying continued and they say they received no help from administrators. the parents hope this trial will send a message for school systems to put a stop to the bullying. i had a chance to talk to the folks with the baltimore city school system. a spokesperson told me the school district doesn't comment on active litigation. reporting live in downtown baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. an army intelligence analyst will be in the military courtroom tomorrow at fort meade. a pretrial hearing scheduled for first class bradley manning, suspected of passing government secrets to wikileaks. the hearing is to determine whether he should be court-martialed. prosecutors say bradley gave wikileaks video of the apache helicopter attacks in which civilians were killed. after 14 weeks of training

in the narcotics detection schools six dogs and handlers will graduate tomorrow in maryland. four of the dogs will work at state police barracks, the others to be dispatched across maryland. two dogs completed 14 weeks of narcotics training while two others concluded 16 weeks of explosive detection training. there are currently 33 handlers and 41 dogs working throughout the state of maryland. get ready for a vacation as the cold weather approaches. flu flights to be offered -- new flights to be offered come february. there will be nonstops twice weekly between salisbury and florida. it's made possible due to a recently expanded runway in salisbury. still to come -- a massive spending package, and the white house wants more tax. a vote could come as soon as friday to avoid another government shutdown.

nearly 1/2 of americans are considered low income according to new census figures that show many middle class americans are dropping below the threshold. the number of foreclosed homes about to be auctioned hit a nine-month high. the spike comes after a surge of homes entered foreclosure three months ago. however, borrowers receiving the first notice -- those notices are down. the samsung galaxy nexus goes on sale today. it runs on the google android operating system, call ice cream sandwich. that is creative. the bigger screen is larger than the i-phone and works in the same way. aaa estimates close to 912 million people are going to be -- 92 million people are going to be driving 50 miles or more this year, the majority of people are going to be driving, only 6% say they will fly. today's national cupcake day. to celebrate some local
