maryland route 100, 97 traffic back up to speed, had slowing with a collision on i-97 approaching the bea but it's been -- beltway but it's been cleared. follow us on twitter at maryland traffic. good morning. new developments into a deadly bus crash in montgomery, left one dead. happened late wednesday afternoon in bethesda the intersection of rockville pike and all -- alta vista road. linda so has more. >> reporter: all new this morning that stretch of rockville pike reopened. we're also learning one person was airlifted to shock trauma. in all 11 people were hurt in the deadly crash. it happened after 4:00 yesterday and shut down that stretch of rockville pike for hours. investigators say a toyota pickup crossed the median and crashed into a metro bus. that caused the bus to hit a tree on the side of the road. the man driving the pickup was killed, identity not released. the driver of the metro bus had

to be extricated, she's a 13-year veteran, taken to the hospital with serious injuries. it happened near samir's front yard. he tried to rescue the driver of that pickup truck. >> he said don't touch him. >> reporter: neighbors say that stretch is dangerous and lobbied the state for years to do something about it. meanwhile, investigators haven't released why the pickup crossed the median and hit the bus. a south baltimore family lost their 5-year-old son after a crash on the interchange between i-83 and 695. jake owen died at the hospital about an hour after wednesday afternoon's crash. police say an suv didn't slow down quickly enough slamming into the back of an acura carrying the owen family. and staff continues to monitor an officer's condition after a crash on 695. investigators say a tractor-trailer slammed into the cruiser yesterday morning

as that officer was getting on the beltway from providence road. a jeep was also involved in the crash. two women were taken to the hospital. no word yet on a cause of the accident. the national law enforcement officers memorial fund says 2011 saw a 13% increase in the number of officers killed in the line of duty compared to 2010. 173 law enforcement officers were killed this year. gunfire being the most common reason for the deaths. it marks the first time in 14 years more law enforcement agents died in shootings rather than traffic accidents. this morning some workers of rg steel in sparrows point are looking for new jobs. maryland state officials sacan claims to the state. state officials called the layoff temporary and union leaders say they were told the layoffs were coming. in maryland law enforcement is hoping anyone with information into the death of phylicia barnes will soon come forward. >> we can't be specific about the progress that is being made but progress

is being made. again, a lot of hard work has gone into this from a lot of committed people. >> yesterday marked the one year anniversary of phylicia barnes' disappearance. authorities found her body in april in the susquehanna river near the concono wingo dam. new this morning, fire crews are investigating the cause of a northwest baltimore fire. the baltimore firefighters union sent in this photograph this morning. the fire started at an abandoned home around 3:30 on robert street. the fire didn't spread to any other homes. democracy 2012. a spokesman for newt gingrich says the republican raked in $9 million in the past three months. gingrich has been sliding in new polls with iowa caucuses less than a week away. coming up, additional controversy into the former house speaker's campaign all surrounding voter signature.

golf courses in nebraska are seeing an unexpected spike in business. that's because temperatures have been mild and there's very little snow. golfers have been spending the time out in the brisk winds but have to bundle up. some golf courses near omaha have been seeing golfers for 100 consecutive days. i've seen the same trend around maryland as well. several goff courses have stragglers out there bundled up

are taking a stand against targets across the country after a breast-feeding mother in texas said she was harassed at the store for breast feeding her baby. the national demonstration was in support for michelle hickman who was nursing her 5-month-old under a blanket when she said target employees began giving her a tough time. the mothers greeted customers as they entered the target stores telling them it's ok to breast feed in public. targets say guests who choose to breast feed in public areas of the store are welcome to do so without being made to feel uncomfortable. >> it takes a lot of mother-to-mother support. even though none of us know the mother from texas it's a matter of, everyone pulling together saying it's ok, don't feel bad about it and everyone has to feed their baby. >> reporter: meanwhile target also says it will inform all employees about the company's breast feeding policy. a georgia neighbor now trying to use the -- we'll get that story? a moment.

witnesses say a driver plowed into one car after another in a colorado subdivision. now police are trying to figure out what prompted the rampage. one person caught it on security camera. you can see that driver kept going. officers arrested the suspect who police say hit five cars. police are also saying the suspect was driving on several flat tires and had a bare rim. now to georgia where a neighborhood is using social media to try to catch christmas thieves. they started this house which had surveillance cameras at the front door. neighbors posted it to their blogs and used facebook and twitter hoping someone will recognize the men and turn them in. in ohio a man is in jail after bringing alcohol to an alcoholics anonymous class. police say derek porter crashed an aa meeting this week, refusing to leave. officers say he showed up drunk at the 12-step house and wandered the hallways interrupting a meeting. employees got him out and officers say he returned. officers then showed up and

arrested him. an oregon father accused of driving drurch with his three kids in the car. when police found him he was passed out behind the wheel. daniel faced the judge in the courtroom yesterday. the grandmother came to the court and took custody of the three children. the faa is investigating reports of lasers being pointed at a cockpit of two planes at george bush internationality in houston. they happened tuesday night, the ones behind it could face a $11,000 fine for each individual incident. a driver is seeing his full deed come full circle. he and others climbed down a 60-foot vafeen to get an -- ravine to get an injured driver. he lost his engagement ring in

then you can do what that guy said and invest it. justin, what do you think? >> yes. invest it. play with it and invest the rest. 28 in baltimore this morning. wouldn't it be nice if we could have taken that snow from two years ago and just sprinkled it around for the month of december? if i could figure out a way to do that. so many people are anxious and waiting for winter to turn. we're seeing signs and signals but 28 is still above normal in baltimore but at least we're starting to get the cold air locked in. a lot of teens across new york and new england. we're watching some snow bands break down but that's just a wind shift as the next little disturbance pushes light snow into ohio and michigan. this is, again, probably going to take the moisture to the north though it will look so tempting and close but what it is going to do is throw in cloud cover. and that main area of disturbance sliding into the northern sections of minnesota and the u.p.

of michigan, northern wisconsin. that's the northern track. that will allow the temperatures to modify over the next couple of days. that is just allowing the atmosphere and this cold air to eventually dive in our direction next week. our future trend here, we're going to start clear and cold, a lot of cloud cover into the afternoon. this is one of those days, one of those trends where we'll have intermittent clouds and it will look threatening, probably not much of anything. 46 today, just above normal and with the decrease of wind that we had compared to yesterday it's going to feel a lot better even though we're going to lose that sun behind the increasing clouds. a mix of clouds overnight, look for temperatures back down to 32, still above normal. how about this quick peek, i want to show you the seven-day trend, we push 52 tomorrow and 50s into the weekend, could be flurries early in the morning on saturday, still 50 in the afternoon. after sunday we drop in the 30s, we'll probably lose the threat of a coastal storm but snow showers, the first sign of the big change next week. on the roads we go as we
