they can move forward with racing plans with another group. >> two doctors are accused of doing late-term abortions in an elkton clinic. josie is here with all of the details. >> an investigation into complaints about a patient eventually sent officers into is the clinic brigham and reilly were running. what they found is disturbing to say the lease. dr. steven chase brigham and nicola reilly are charged with first and second-degree murder as a result of that investigation. according to police, the pair were part of a botched abortion which started in new jersey and then continued in an apartment on high street in elkton. when complaints came in, the doctor's office was searched, and investigates found 35 fetuses in the freezer. some were as late term as 36 weeks. >> there is always someone out there looking to adopt, someone

who can't have a child themselves, so to destroy a life that could be meaningful to someone else is really a shame. >> the board of physicians says brigham has never been licensed to practice medicine in maryland. dr. reilly's license was suspended back in 2010, shortly after that botched procedure. the attorney representing her in that case with the medical board said these criminal charges are without legal merit. we'll have more on this story, and you'll find it on our website, abc2news.com. it's on the home page. senator nancy jacobs said she has been following this case since it's started and the best way for this not to happen in maryland is for the state to require licenses for all clinics that perform abortions. she said if to the clinics become licensed, they would also be subject to the type of inspections that could have stopped illegal procedures. >> the reason they did this in maryland is because maryland has next to nothing, as far as laws regarding this.

>> although senator jacobs said he has previously introduced legislation to make those changes, the legislation hasn't passed. >> firefighter from chesapeake city had a heart attack at the scene of a two alarm fire new elkton. another firefighter had to be treated for smoke inhalls a. the state fire marshall's office said the fire started just after noon at a duplex on church street. the damage is estimated to be about $230,000. >> and police are looking for a man they believe robbed a mcdonald's last night with a gun. it happened in the 700 block of nursery road. a man wearing a black mask and sunglasses walked in and demanded monday. officers searched the area, but did not mind him. >> baltimore city is on pace for the lowest homicide rate in more than 308 years. right now they have 196 murders

with just one day left in 2011. the last time they saw a murder rate this low was back in 1978. we spent some time with commissioner bealefeld last night, who said this has everything to dwight his department's policy of focusing on bad guys with guns. it's an effort the commissioner says is working. >> if the whole -- this whole city does not embrace this result, we've squandered and missed a dynamite opportunity to nonstraight not just to the rest of the state, but to the rest of the country that baltimore is doing what no one said we could. >> coming up at 11:00, we'll have more from our in-depth interview with the commissioner and explain what he has up his sleeve for 2012 to help keep the crime numbers falling. head to our best of 2011 page

apparently we're not alone in that. >> what we're finding is that r.g. steel has not communicated at all to anyone in terms of what their problems are and what their plans are. we need information from them so that we can be available, along with our partners on the state and federal level, to provide assistance to displaced workers. >> for now, the county executive said he doesn't know what's going to happen, and that feeling was echoed by many of the workers we have spoken with. >> 2011 has been a tough economic year, but some economists are predicting that 2012 could come to be known as the year of jobs, effect from the energy sector, to healthcare, restaurants, and even construction. >> unemployment claims have been dropping. the economy is slowly growing, coming out of the doldrums we've been in and creating more jobs. >> forbes from financial experts are predicting as much

shark tank i was in, so i could have just dove in there. let's take look outside right now. you can see that temperatures are running generally on the, well, chilly side, but it was mild for much of the day today. what a change was from the weather we had earlier in the year. so bottom line is, some improvement out there, as we take a look at some of the conditions. 45 degrees, and we'll skip the weather cameras, as we get a little lockup on that computer there, but the bottom line is this, clear tonight, dry conditions. the most powerful radar. sweeps show all clear. through the overnight, there will be a brief chance for some rain early in the morning, and that's going to be about it. 45 in baltimore. 56 in easton, and 46 in ocean city. winds are light and variable,

and what little wind we do have, generally out of the south-southeast. that plus some sunshine helping to warm us up today, as a warm front actually pushed north, and that really allowed our temperatures to correct about 15 degrees from yesterday when we struggled to get out of the low and mid-40s. 54 in cambridge. 61 down in culpepper virginia earlier today. just some clouds spreading over the state now. new year's eve, you're looking good as far as standing dry. but we could see this system here pinwheeling itself out of the great lakes, and this will skirt just north of us from the overnight and into early tomorrow. we'll catch the bottom edge of this, and so some rain showers likely to skirt through our area as we go towards daybreak and that down time tomorrow.

but a-- that dawn time tomorrow. but, again, it will be brief. there's not a lot of tremendously cold air behind this storm system. temperatures will average through the mid-to-upper 50s all weekend, and at night, themes down in the 30s. -- temperatures down in the 30s. unless you're well north of the maryland line, you should see just brief rain showers overnight tonight, because we don't expect it to be below freezing. tomorrow your two-degree guarantee will be 56. some slow clearing, but still mild out there. happy new year's to everyone. the new year's baby is rocking it out. take a look at the seven-day forecast. man, so many changes in the next seven days. number one, we will see, again, that chance for a morning shower tomorrow.

the one question everyone wants to know, will they have clear skies to see the fireworks pop over the harbor tomorrow? >> i think we're in good shape. relatively mild temperatures, too, for the cusp of january. >> the cusp. >> the cusp. just some clouds in the state now. you see that rain on the left side offered your screen. may get a brief shot of that towards daybreak tomorrow, but it will quickly be out of here. and the rest of the day, 40s, and variably cloudy. let's check out that weekend forecast. the chance for an early morning shower tomorrow within but look at those temperatures. 56 saturday, and 58 on sunday. and, again, the overnight temperatures, you know, 30s, but fireworks time probably still low 40s at the harbor. >> the good thing is there's nothing to shovel for the first of the year. >> one other note, the ravens game in cincinnati, could be some snowshowers around, so they could have a little ugly weather out there for the big game.
