state ever seen. linda. >> reporter: it was very close race. winer is mitt romney by 8 votes edging out rick santorum and ron ball third. newt gingrich 4th and rick perry and michelle bachmann. it came down to the wire with the santorum make last-minute surge. romney held onto victory and told supporters it's time to move onto new hampshire. santorum and ron paul say they will turn their focus to new hampshire where the nation's first primary will be held next week. newt gingrich said he will carry on the campaign no matter the iowa outcome. bachmann says she is staying in the race but this may be it for rick perry who says he is returning to text tews assess the campaign. -- texas to assess the campaign. >> i decided to return to texas, assess the results of tonight'scaucus and determine whether there is a path forward for myself in this race. >> reporter: and in just a few

hours we can expect an endorsement from mitt romney. john mccain says he will endorse the former massachusetts governor. linda so, abc2 news. the baltimore county branch of the naacp will launch project 2012 to get voters involved in this year's presidential election. it will include pastors, representing thousands of city voters, and various denominations. also the baltimore city sitting senators it. will focus on registering voters and educating them on the importance of involvement and promising the votes will be protected no matter the cause. the latest on the string of break-ins the patterson park area of east baltimore. several homes have been vandalized and broken into. sherrie johnson is live inpatterson park with more. >> reporter: yes, we are here at the intersection of lakewood and baltimore street here in east baltimore and this morning baltimore city police officers are trying to figure out who is responsible for these break-

ins. as a matter of fact, coming down baltimore i. actually had a chance to see three officers patrolling the area this morning. now people who live in the patterson park area are on the lookout after they say they had about a dozen break-ins since just before christmas. one block of lakewood has been hit with four burglaries according to the neighborhood association. and people are aware and they say they are keeping an eye out for suspicious activity. now folks are working closely with police. >> kid that have been knocking on doors and to see if someone is home and signature out front and watching and we have pass aid long the information to quite of the burg -- passed onalong that information to quite of few of the burglars. >> reporter: crime has been down and officers are not ready to say whether or not the number of the burglaries are connected and may be the same person but they are investigating. reporting live in east baltimore, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. new this morning, federal

prosecutors say a former executive at m and t bank pleaded guilty to in a plot to steal more than $200,000 and export import bank of the us. she plead guilty yesterday. the bank fired her for reasons unrelated to the case. prosecutors say she had made unauthorized transfers of money in an unnamed company's account. export import company paid on the defaulted loan. it's 4:36. and tickets are sold out to the ravens game but if you are willing to pay, you can go. according to stub hub 2,000 bucks will get you a club level see the and 270 the upper deck. but most fans are enjoying the hoopla. ray rice's party last night a ray lewis was there. rice and smith sang with the fans and got involved and got leaf in on the act.

now "good morning maryland" at 4:30. 4:39. the coldest morning since february 9th. look at this. i just wanted to pause and hear silence in the tv. you usually come running. manchester valley. one of the coldest spots in maryland at a crooked 7. that's the actual temperature. wind speeds have come up. i said they would calm down but they seem like they have picked up. averaging 5 to 10 miles per hourch gusts to 21 and -- hour. gusts to 21 and that and 7- degree temperature will take you down. 13 current temperature at northeast and sparrows point. down to 12 in annapolis. cold air worked all the way across the bay even eastern shore and the teens and there are some single digits or below zero 6 below current wind chill. we are clear and clouds to the west and next disturbance tries to slide out of the great lakes and by the afternoon, after the clear cold blast this morning we get our way with maybe more snow showers or flurries. high of only 31.

it's 4:40 on the clock and here's angela with traffic. all right. on the roadways this morning, got a problem reported for a motorists taking 95 southbound through the fort mchenry tunnel a disabled vehicle block one lane in the tunnel. we have one more southbound shut down for overnight maintenance. so just one lane getting through the tunnel southbound 95. but once you get past that point you should be good through baltimore county heading through howard county look live at 95 and 175. let's get the first look at the beltway this morning. on north side we are looking pretty good. it's clear at green spring and as you continue around on the north side on the inner loop 695 at harford road no troubles through the overly region. now back to you. a new report says nearly 80% of preschool age children are in child care centers. a study finds a lot of them are spending the days indoors. doctors at the cleveland cline he can say they worry this could lead to childhood obesity. preschool centers say there's too many restraints on playground equipment and they keep the kids indoors instead.

widespread single digits in the northeast. this is leading to milder air but clouds will filter back in and you can see this disturbance lined up here on the wider view. not a lot of moisture but that will carry in our direction. and we will actually tap into the lakes and maybe late afternoon heating if you call it that. just to help to bubble up the cloud. we could have late day flurries taking us through tomorrow morning. but the chance of snow showers. so basically what we are looking at with the future trend more snow back into the mountains and tomorrow morning this time we should be cloudy and again there could be flakes flying around. nothing too substantial but just a reminder that it's winter and it starts to clear out. today 31 just cold. wind not too bad. and as we go through the day, the increase in clouds could give way to late day flurries and tonight flurries or the chance of light snow showers but at least not as cold. it's loom like the iceland we are talking about around the fruit that holds at a certain temperature so it will be warm
