"good morning maryland." the race to the white house continues and the gop presidential candidates prepare for the new hampshire primary. a full preview coming up. and does your kid need a summer job? how the white house is stepping in to help. you heard the warnings now see what happens when just one spark of static electricity, what it did at a oklahoma gas station. that story and more coming up. i am charley crowson. let's start off with a check of the forecast and say hello, to justin berk. you know yesterday, at this time we were about 14 degrees. we doubled that on this morning. >> it doubled or if you go on the calvin scale that's another issue. >> come on now. >> you know, there maybe science teachers watching. but charley is right from 14 to near 30. this is where we belong 25. so we were way below normal yesterday. and a high was only 31. today we get back close to normal. and look at the records.

traveling through dundalk on the inner loop, a disabled vehicle taking up the far right lane. so it will take a few extra minutes to get through the toll plaza and across the key bridge. looking a at traffic flow on 29. a lot more activity especially in the southbound lanes of route 29 through ellicott city. and a check of traffic i-83 at beltway looking pretty good. also 95 in the rosedale area. looking at that as we update the drive times. southbound 83 from shawan to 695, five minutes. and even with the volume increase southbound 95 as you make your way to the top side of 695, it will take six minutes there. over to you. as the race for the republican presidential nomination rolls to new hampshire the effort to stop mitt romney is stepping up. corinne redman has the latest from the campaign trail. >> reporter: well, the major headlines making news this morning in the presidential race heading into the new hampshire primary is mitt

romney is facing harsh attacks and rick santorum's near win is bringing him more than a million dollars in one day. as the race for the republican nomination for president rolls through the effort to stop mitt romney is intensifiesing. newt gingrich appears to be on a -- intensifying. newt gingrich appears to be starting to criticize romney. supporters of hutsman has turned up the heat and hard hitting ads against romney. >> one state can stop the mealian. >> we feel very good about things. >> i think we can get more than a 8-vote margeen in new hampshire? >> reporter: with a double digit lead, romney is looking ahead traveling to south carolina today with senator john mccain. but just four years ago, mccain called romney a flip-flopper.

corinne redman, abc2 news. does your kid need a summer job? the white house announced plans to help thousands of kids find summer work if they wand it. linda so is here -- want it. linda so is here with details but the white house is doing their part but will the kids want to get the summer jobs? they like to relax. >> reporter: i guess parents have to nudge them along. >> help them out. >> reporter: the program is called summer jobs and will help create 250,000 jobs and internships for low income use this summer. white house with partner with private companies to hire underprivileged youth. some of the companies that signed on are at&t, bank of america and starbucks. in the near feature a search tool will be launched called summer job bank to help teens look for open positions and connect with potential employers. president obama says the program is important for america's future teaching young people the importance of having a job. linda so, abc2 news. >> all right.

so you have to check out this video. a car stuck on a roof in fresno, california. police say the driver made a sharp u-turn and hit a curb and then somehow hit some large rocks which sent him mid-air. he came to rest on the roof of an apartment building. crews called in a crane to get the car off and the driver broke his leg and may have been under the influence of alcohol. look at this video. an explosion. a woman is thankful to be alive. this is in oklahoma. the woman says it was cold and she got back in her car to stay warm while the tank filled up. we have done it. but when she came back to the pump to click it off she produced enough static electricity in the car to ignite the flames. and this is something people are saying be aware of because it can happen to you. >> she come nan yelled her car was on fire. both the tires blowout and her window blowout while we trying to get out of the gas station. >> now fire officials say the fires are rare but they are more likely to happen when the

so while some sluggish economies are forcing businesses to downsize, dungin donuts is expanding -- dunkin donuts is expanding the work force. the company plans to double locations in the u.s. during the next 20 years. dunkin donuts has nearly 7,000 stores nationwide. ando you don't think it will be selling this any time

go. we have a lot going on. corinne will have more on the macy's stores set to close and sherrie johnsons has details on the campaign to defeat the dream act and angela has plans for the morning -- morning commute but firstjustin. going back six hours there was a solid shield of snow and coating left on the cars and grass and decks and further east they got a little more through the delmarva. and as i told you we heard in delaware, in the state of delaware, they have school delays because of the snow this morning. and they may have picked up a inch or greater. issues with the possible icing in sections of the eastern shore a band of clouds with the last piece of energy lost moisture from the one that flared up last night. and let us know if you got the coating of snow out there. that's about it. road should be okay but some icy spots have been found.

temperatures holding at 30 from baltimore to easton and we are about to bounce off the bottom. maybe icy spots. sunshine and nice near 40. low 40s this afternoon. 6:46. here's angela with traffic. >> reporter: i am trying to get across the key bridge on inner loop east side going to be slow going because of a disabled vehicle block the -- blocking the right lane. outer loop block the right lane approaching -- blocking the right lane on 795. for those of you traveling on i- 70 on 29, pocket delays reported in the southbound direction of 29. and getting through the clarksville park region. baltimore national pike not too bad here but again, some delays on the west side outer loop as we check the drive times. right lane closed at 795. so now it's going to take about 9 minutes from 795 to i-70 on the west side outer loop. over to you. the breaking news update.

at least one of the six officers shot in utah is dead. officer issued a drug search warrant and one of the officers killed had a wife and two children. police shot that suspect who is also at the police officer. five officers are hospital eyed with serious to critical considers. witnesses report multiple gunshots and some report automatic gunfire. iraqis have real fears the cycle of violence may be revived now the u.s. troops left. we learned new information that several blast overnight in baghdad left 27 people dead. the blasts wound 60 others. two explosions included a roadside bomb and bomb attached to a motorcycle near a bus stop where people were gathering look for work. and new this -- looking for work. and new this morning, thepresident will talk about how the pentagon will cut a billion -- half a billion dollars from the budget

including giving fighting two ground wars such as the efforts in iraq and afghanistan. but the defense department would deploy troops and equipment like the second conflict -- should a second conflict arrive. the american dream act has been a controversial issue and a maryland state delicate is taking action to defeat the law. we have more on a big announcement expected today. >> reporter: yes, we are here in essex on eastern boulevard and right across the street here behind me, delegate pat mcdonough is scheduled to make a announcement in reference to the dream act. that should happen around noon. he is kick off the fund raising phase to try to overturn a law allowing in-state tuition rates for illegal aliens. he wants opponents to raise money for literature and radio and tr ads. the dream act would allow undocumented high school embraid wits to pay in-state

tuition in will college. he was part of an effort that collected over 100,000 signatures and forced the law to the 2012 ballot. >> can you imagine a major newspaper like the sun papers or johns hopkins hospital or some or professional organization hiring someone who is a professional unlawfully and that's a felony and could affect their reputation? they are not going to do it. >> reporter: now supporters of the dream act likes cana de maryland and others have started to raise money to fight the campaign. we have been trying to contact them for comment. reporting live, sherrie johnson, abc2 news. in a-- a press conference will anoun the labor federation's support for marriage equality. it will be on north utah treat. the 300,000 member federation will mobilize in support of the governeer legislation. and today nancy jacobs will hold a press conference to

discuss her future announcing she will run for the second congressional district. she formed an exploratory committee for her run for the second district which is represented by democrats. and state senator is scheduled tie nouns his candidacy for the senate tonight. the democrat from prince george's county will speak in upper marlboro where he will take on benjamin cardin. he has been in the senate since 2007. they are blaming it on the underperformance and the reasonmacy's will close stores. we have details on how maryland could be affected. >> reporter: among the five macy's and four bloomingdale's stores are closing two in maryland one in about bethesda and one in laurel. they blame it on underperformance. more than 830 workers will be affected by the closings. 375 at macy's and 463 at

bloomingdale's. but many employees may have the option of taking jobs at new is tokers they plan to open. they announced the company was opening five new stores in one replacement store but none will be in maryland. clearance sales will start on sunday at the stores closing and run for 10 weeks. among the macy's stores that will close are topeka kansashas, parma ohio and texas city texas. as for bloomingdale's atlanta, oak brook illinois north bethesda and mall of american in bloomington. macy's issued a statement saying in part we continue to be committed to maintaining the healthy port folio of stores that helps us focus on the best and most productive locations. for the workers laid off, macy's says they will offer severance benefits. we told you yesterday about the fact starbucks prices are going up. now bacon and eggs could be

going up too. denny's is considering a price hike for 2012. so far they have not said when or by how much but they are blaming it on the rising cost of ingredients from a recent announcement. we learned that amtrak train service is rolling again after hours of delay in new jersey caused by the river there that was stuck in the open position. now service to the northeast corridor was affected and all services are back to normal. u.s. airways says they are expanding at washington reagan national airport. they will begin flights in 11 new destination adding flights at 3 existing destinations. new flights will be begin in two-phases one on march 25th and another july 11th. destinations include brimingham alabama little rock arkansas and florida. city lead layers nouns plans for the circular service. the trolley system will provide service from the city's four park garages in and around downtown allowing riders easier

access. the announcement is at main street at 10. consumers news, for those waiting until the last-minute to file tacks, this year you have two additional days. the irs ponder back the dead like -- pushed back the deadline from the 15th to the 17th because the 15th falls on a sunday and the following day is is a holiday in dc. now you have until tuesday, the 17th to file. dollar general announced new stores are going up in 38 states including in maryland. additionally there's remodeling for 550 more locations. they didn't release specifics on the locations for the new stores. there are a dozen baltimore area stores also in randelstown and reisterstown and they have dollar general locations as well. when when you consider 1% who do you see? warren buffet donald trump? how about yourself? world bank economist crunch the numbers for his new book and determined that it takes 34,000
