live from manchester, new hampshire, tj winick, abc news. newstime 5:32. a man who is serving a life sentence for killing his wife is now walking free. that's because outgoing mississippi governor haley barbour decided to pardon that man. he also pardoned nearly 200 other convicted criminals including four murderers before handing the job to the newly elected governor. the move has the victims' families outraged. >> it's completely unfair. i mean, he's in jail for up to 18 years, she was 20 years old when she died and had her child laying in her arms when he shot her in her head. and he's pardoned? >> haley barbour's office didn't offer comment or explanation as to why the governor made that decision. and what do you think about this? should the outgoing governor have pardoned the convicted criminals? especially those of the harsher criminal variety? murderers, rapist?

ok, so there are 500,000 apps available for the i-phone but they seem to always come back to the same one. angry birds was the number one app of last year. out of the top 10 the apps were games. nine were games. after angry birds, words with friends, that came second. fruit ninja was number three.

welcome back. later today a harford county teen charged with killing his father will be in court. abc2 news linda so has details. linda? >> reporter: the 16-year-old is due in court just after 1:00 this morning -- this afternoon, for a bond hearing. right now he's being held without bail at the harford county detention center. police say robert richardson iii confessed to killing his father and dumping his body behind a house in aberdeen. police say they got a tip from the teen's sister, police went

to the home and found blood in and outside of the home. a few hours later troopers spotted the suv richardson was driving, he led police on a chase and crashed into a stole wall at bel air methodist church. documents show he confessed but why he killed his father is still a mystery. >> people have lots of theories and ideas but what the investigators need are time to do their job. >> reporter: richardson is the student at c. milton wright high school in bel air, he's charged as an adult with first degree murder. new this morning, penn state's legendary football coach joe paterno has given $100,000 to the university. this is after he was fired after they claim he was involved in the jerry sandusky trial. the penn state university president today will face a crowd of alumni. the town hall meeting will be the first of three scheduled for the week.

we'll have a rain event here. same general thing we've had all winter, storms come out of the western gulf, push almost directly towards us or the ohio valley. we stay on the warm side. there's a lot of rain developing as this thing now tapping into not only the gulf of mexico but the atlantic and pulling in what could be some strong thunderstorms in parts of georgia and the carolinas today. storm system passes through by tonight and tomorrow morning. arctic boundary, that is what we watch to start to trigger the next pattern change at least in towards the weekend. we have a look at future trend model. this afternoon we start to go downhill with developing rain so take at that rain gear and plan for what will be a slow commute because of the wet weather. heaviest rain overnight through early tomorrow morning, gets out by daybreak. a windy but mild day. then that arctic boundary swings through here, this particular model indicating mostly rain for us but some models have indicated we may have a brief burst of snow predawn friday so there may be icy spots friday morning, then a dry day, we tap into the cold air.

president obama will spend the afternoon focusing on the economy during a white house forum. he will then spend the night raising campaign cash in chicago. the president and vice president will hold a roundtable meeting on the in-sourcing of jobs in america. the president will deliver remarks after that forum. first lady michelle obama announcing new efforts to help future doctors to treat those suffering from post war stress. and the so-called dooms-day clock estimating how close we are to nuclear holocaust.

it's been at six minutes before midnight for two years. tuesday the bulletin of atomic scientists moved up to five minutes before midnight. factors include japan's fukushima disaster and the inherent threats of dirty bombs by terrorists. we've seen the video of people running into stores behind deals. one people at k-mart did all they could to get out. what they heard and what some felt that caused a panic for dozens. also, police wanted them for robbery. the suspects wanted to get away. what officers tried to do to save the vehicle had nothing to do with rescuing the person. also, new changes to the crab population in maryland. what you have to look forward to for the coming summer. coming up at 6:00 hour.
