her room in san francisco. she was trying to catch her sisters going through her stuff. but she caught someone else. pretty sure that's a grown plan, right? hallie didn't realize that her parents set up a sort of impromptu open house. this guy was at the open house went into hallie's room and started riffling through her stuff, stealing stuff. this man has been identified as doug john calldrela. he's a former real estate agent himself and he was previously convicted in 2010 of, guess what? stealing from people during open houses and selling their items on ebay. this time he was at it again. when hallie saw the video she showed it to their family, they showed it to their real estate agent, they recognized the guy, turned him into authorities and he was arrested and held without bail. >> what a creep. goes into th ll'he stealingrome

girl's room. >> that little girl, the super sleuth herself, is joining us right this minute via skype with her family. hallie, how did it make you feel to see this video of a grown man going through your belongings? >> i thought it was really creepy and it was pretty rude too. >> what did he end up taking? >> i think it was money, but my mom was missing a diamond necklace and a bracelet. >> now mom and dad, what was going through your minds as you saw your daughter's spy video. >> we felt very violated. when you an open house you don't know who's walking through your home. >> what does it feel like to have played a role in catching a criminal. >> like all my friends are like oh, my god, that's so cool. how did you do it? i was like, i just kind of put my computer up on video and they're like, really, that's just like so smart. i would never have thought to do that. traveling around washington, d.c., by bus, may be a little

bit more dangerous than you think. this is a collection of dash cam videos from metro busses in washington, d.c. pedestrian just got hit. you saw the bus cruising down the left-hand lane, just clips a pedestrian. he walked away. another incident of a rear-end collision. that's another car into the back of a bus. >> and a woman with a baby carriage. >> who is driving these busses? >> this is a whole collection of dash cam clips between august and september of last year. the cameras in the busses are called drive cams and every bus has one. the cameras are triggered when they sense a sudden braking motion or jerk in movement in the bus. that's where all this has been captured. >> you see a lot of these different incidents. some of them are the bus drive's fault. a lot of them are not. you see drivers turning in front of busses, pedestrians running in front of buss. >> why has this compilation of dash cam been released. >> they had been doing a bus

investigation and when they looked into all these different indents they're like wow, that's a lot of different incidents in a two-month span. when you consider all the numbers, the transit agency has 1250 busses on the road, making about 14,000 trips during weekdays, covering 50 million miles a year, so when you look at the broader picture, these incidents do happen, but in general, only two people per million passengers are hurt in bus accidents. tell me if you've ever seen anything like this. >> an owl? >> yes. >> sure. >> yeah. >> this is in china grove, texas. this is a male guard owl caught in a barbed wire fence. >> oh! >> that i've never seen. >> this video shot by a guy name bill gillespie and his wife linda works for the china grove animal rescue control and her

neighbor called her to the scene to say -- >> there is a huge owl sitting on my back fence. i don't understand why it's not moving but it keeps staring at me. >> the barbed wire did impale the bird's wing and got him around the claw. linda ended up calling the fire department and they wrapped a towel around the owl to kind of keep him calm. they took wire clippers and clipped the wire on either side of the owl and then they put the owl inside of a cage. they transported the owl to a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in san antonio, texas. and believe it or not, the owl is doing just fine. we actually have linda gillespie via skype right this minute. explain what was going through your mind when you got the call from your neighbor. >> the very first thing i did after i got the call, called wildlife rescue and rehabilitation their branch in

san antonio, how do i handle something like that, are these animals dangerous? she told me get towels, sheets, a large crate and gloves and get him. and get him and do what? >> if you didn't spring into action to help out this animal, what do you think would have happened to him? do you think he would have died? >> it's amazing he even survived the night because we have a multi tied of coyotes in this area. he was already in shock by the time we took him off, so he would have died or he certainly would have been coyote fodder that night. someone threw a 20-pound rock through the window of an iraqi restaurant in lower massachusetts. some veterans said not in our own and they got together to do this. what you're looking at are a bunch of veterans from veterans for peace. they are inside the babylon restaurant in lowell, massachusetts. the veterans say listen, a lot of iraqis that have moved here help support the coalition

forces so we need to support them. >> trying to intimidate and scare these people who have been through so much, is just not acceptable. either here in lowell or any place else. >> all these veterans got together one night and over a three-hour period they went into the restaurant and ordered a bunch of food. >> awesome. what a great message they're sending to the community and then, you know, now to the rest of our country. >> we're just here to show our support. we're going to fill this restaurant tonight with our eat-in and just to show them that we're here for them. we're here to support them. >> maybe this will, in turn, end up getting them more customers, more people are going to want to show their support and try this out, try something new. a dallas couple left their yorkies in the car, and came out to this. >> so they pride open the rear-end of their car with what, jaws of life or something? >> was its right thing to do or a huge overreaction? >> remember those black bridal

welcome back to the show. but don't forget to check in at rightthisminute.com. great videos all day long. for those of us who have ever owned a dog, we sometimes put them in the car and take them with us running errands and we'll run into the store, we'll do something, leave them in the car. >> yeah. >> we come back and go. that's what this couple did. this is don and danika shipman, a dallas couple that went out. it was john's birthday. the couple decided to drive to a restaurant with their dogs to have a meal. and they left the dogs in the car on what they was a 55 degree day. >> the couple said they left the dogs in the trunk with the back seat tilted forward so that fresh air could get in and the dogs couldn't go into the cabin.

well apparently less than an hour later, they came out to find their car like this. >> the trunk had been beaten in? >> somebody pride in the trunk to get into the back seat? >> that's exactly what happened. firefighters came in to rescue the dogs who they thought were being endangered. >> so they pride open the rear-end of their car with what, jaws of life or something? >> they crowbarred the trunk, which makes absolutely no sense to any of us and to the couple because they're saying, try the door, if the door doesn't work, break the window. >> yeah. >> easier to replace a window than an entire trunk, right? >> at the tune of $5,000. >> oh! >> it does seem like there would have been an easier way to go about getting the dogs out. >> the $5,000 damage isn't it. john was charged with animal cruelty and could face up to one year in jail and a $10,000 fine. >> what? >> the couple is trying to get

the fire department to pay for the damages that they caused to their car. we tried to contact emergency officials, but we were unable to get a comment by our deadline. >> judging by the looks of that trunk you would think they thought there was like drugs in this car, not two yorkies. >> get those dogs out of there. when it's time to do a burnout, there ain't nobody that's going to tell steve he can't do his burnout. this is at the super national burnout competition. >> before you go any further -- >> ♪ >> maybe some of our viewers don't know what a burnout is. >> there's a competition. >> go and suck in smoke from burning tires. >> how do you judge that? >> yeah. >> when you do a burnout don't you not go anywhere. >> why are they wearing ten gallon hats. >> how do they score this? by the smoke cloud, by the length of skid marks? ♪

>> steve novak is driving his nucin futz and they're trying to prevent steve from competing in the finals of the burnout. they say during his qualifying, he disobeyed a fire marshall and that's why they won't let him on the track. australian journalist scott taylor shot his video and we have limb right this minute via skype. >> he first backed the car up at a high speed into a guardrail. while he was taking it off the track again he started doing a burnout while the fire officials were still on the track. >> they're actually trying to disable steve's car and he just drives right through them and says, you ain't stopping me from competing. >> boy, he is -- >> and off his goes. >> i think he felt he was entitled to get out there on the track and, you know, perform for the crowd. >> the crowd goes crazy, but security is not happy with

steve. >> whoa. >> they toss him from his car. here comes another car. >> hey man, step back. it's not worth it. it's just a burnout. >> now steve was taken straight down to the head office and informed that he had a lifetime ban from the event. but things mellowed in a few days. the organizers have decided to introduce a one-year ban. they are asking him to come back and work as an official at the burnout track so he can then see the official's side of things. while out on a shark sight adventure, something unexpected came to the party and surprised some onlookers. >> oh, my goodness! >> marine dynamics had their shark cage diving boat "the slash fin" out in the water, and they have the bait there looking for some sharks. but this is what they found instead. >> oh! >> oh!

some manatees. >> it's a sting ray. >> oh a sting ray. >> isn't a manatee a giant sting ray? >> no. >> that's a man na ray. >> a man na ray. >> manatee is the big sea cow. >> oh, yeah. man na ray. it's a sting ray. >> they believe this thing is a short-tail sting ray and what's crazy about this, these things live on the sea floor so it's extremely rare to see them this close to the surface. now what's in the depths below them. >> good eye there, nicolas. >> that's what i want. >> oh. so the sting ray is attracted to the bait but all of a sudden a great white shark you see underneath the surface say i think th're actually looking orme.re doing here? the sting ray is like you know what, i'm having a good time hanging out. these people are kind of laughing at me. i'm going to hang out by this bait too.
