that's headed our way. wyatt is here with a look at first forecast. what's changing how much? >> reporter: we just know this much. when it gets this nice in mid- january there will be a change coming on the back side of that. that's what we have. upper 50s to near 60 day. this was outstanding weather. quiet the next few hours this evening. no problems. we see some rain showers developing in western maryland and that's just the beginning of a more significant storm system, that is rocketing through the midsection of the country, dragging in snow off the great lakes, snowing far south as tennessee and kentucky. this is the weather maker on the way to us. likely that it won't just drop the temperatures, maybe bring winter showers by morning. we will watch and tracking that. in the meantime enjoy a quiet evening. big changes by daybreak tomorrow. >> thank you. you know when that bad weather hits caution closing delays we are always working for you.

prison. more time than the father thought he would get but he hope itself will send a message to the trucking industry as far as the sentence giving them closure they say no. the pain continues, her mom said it just changes. we will have much more on this story tonight. if you want more information on what happened to the sentencing and all the storey wes have done following the family over the past 18 months you can find them under the traffic section on abc 2news.com on the drowsy driving page. we want to update another story. police officers caught on tape new year's in an attack, police arrest a 40-year-old. officers were trying to arrest him when they say another man charged them from across the street, hit one of them and pinned him done. he was subdued but in the process the first suspect got

away. he is charged now with escape, assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. we have the latest on the breaking news we told you about at five. the transit administration said the man who was run over by a train ended up falling there after falling asleep. the mta said he dowsed off in his wheelchair and accidentally fell on to the track. he is in stable condition. in tonight's consumer alert the company linked to the listeria outbreak is a ceus of ignoring the fda's advise. a report found the company bio food safety did a july safety awed it and gave the farm near perfect marks despite three major problems like not properly work the fruit in water. the september outbreak killed

30 people. the cdc said it was the deadliest outbreak in more than a quarter century. and a recall rip roaring crab soup because of unlisted milk, wheat and crab. includes the 16-ounce cup pack size. the label incorrectly identities it as manhattan clam chowder. the soup was sold at whole food stores. if you bought it you can return it to the store for a full refund. another recall to tell you about. big lots is recalling more than 43,000 classic quarters, five light flair lamps. the wiring for them can become exposed posing a risk of shock. the recommended 40watt bulbs can over heat which can melt the shades over the bulbs. there were four reports of

melting shades, nobody was hurt. for more information you can call big lots on lots. the number is onto screen. and now to the economy. four foreclosures fell to the lowest level since 2007 according to reality track. one in every 69 homes had one foreclosure filing in 2011. more than 800,000 were repossessed. that's way down from the highs in 2010 when one in every 45 got a foreclosure and more than a million were repossessed. though it may sound like good news the company said the drops are likely due to paperwork delays. more people are expected to buy and lease cars this year. the national mobile dealer's association says 14 million cars and trucks will be sold or leased. nearly 13 million new cars were

sold last year. the driving force behind sales this year will likely be older vehicles. the average age of cars on the road is about 11 and many will be looking for replacements. the group also believes low interest rates on car loans could boost sales. warren buffet warns leaders to put their money where their it collective mouth is. he is promising to match any donation republicans make toward cutting the national debt. he has been out spoken about the unfairness of the tax system. the senate minority leader said if he felt guilty about paying to lit until taxes he should send in a check. buffet said he will match their donations 3-1. the office has reportedly welcomed the pledge but said democrats and the president should be included. we have all been late to work and some have better reasons than others. allison has a list of some of

the most outrageous excuses employees have used last year for being late. >> reporter: you may have started making excuses when you are young, the dog ate my homework, the bus was late, my alarm didn't wok and now some of those excuses don't sound anymore grown up. career builder surveyed 10,000 employers and found interesting reasons for being late. perhaps the most unique of the year, one worker blamed the cat saying had the hiccups. also, someone got distracted watching tv, more specifically the today show. one employee claimed to have caught a leg between the subway and platform and that turned out to be true. another claim for being late, a job interview at a competing company. as for the most popular excuses, career builder finds that almost a third site traffic as the reason. lack of sleep was used by 18%, bad weather and issues bringing the kids to school or daycare

academy. look at ellicott, sun mixed with clouds making for a bright finish to the day. just a fantastic january dame you would think we were -- big changes in the way in less than it eight to ten hours. we are all clear now with nothing more than a couple renegade rain showers but there is a bigger weather maker moving in. we will show you that. first current temperatures statewide. 54 easton and 50hagerstown. winds light and out of the south through the day. at times you get a few gusts. it's at south breeze bringing up the -- not record highs but very unseasonablely warm highs, remember 41 the average this time of year and we have nearly to 61 so almost 20 degrees above average for downtown baltimore today. not bad for january.

here is the mark of the big changes coming in. first you can see the line of showers, already starting to invade west virginia. that is the leading edge of a very cold shot of air. the bulk of which is wrapping around the back side and you can see how much snow is wrapping around the back received the storm as well. i think we will probably get some of that, at least some snow showers in to the early morning and then just a much colder day on tap tomorrow. the bottom line is just a main impacts not just from a brief round but really that cold blast of windy conditions, dropping our temperatures 20 degrees tomorrow and even colder tomorrow night you can see the impact, des moines 15, chicago down to 26, only 28 in cincinnati right now and that's the cold air, ahead of it a line of showers toward one, two in the morning, past midnight and then those winter showers, briefly toward eight and even mostly cloudy and colder

that -- year and a half ago for that wreck. the family hope a message was sent in the courtroom today, a message to the trucking industry and the men and women who make a career at driving them. >> reporter: sentencing are emotionly charged . today in an ohio courtroom, ed flattery tried to show them. >> i believe you have an opportunity today to send a message to truckers throughout the country. commercial truckers involved in accident that cause over 3500 deaths every year. that is 9/11 every year. the airline industry wouldn't get away it, amtrak wouldn't, how is it that the trucking industry does? >> reporter: today it didn't. this is the truck driver who

fell asleep at the kneel august of 2010, barreling into the car on an ohio interstate killing the professor and mother and maiming her youngest son. he was convicted of homicide and assault and today looked down possible prison time, a punishment he pleaded with the judge not to give. >> [inaudible] differently, to have changed that. if i could i would. if i -- any way take places with their family member that they lost i gladly would do that. >> reporter: instead he will spend five-years in prison. a stiffer penalty than it the family thought he would get but one they hoped serves as an example to the trucking industry, another step in their collective recovery but by no means the end of their pain.
