woman scored try telling that to a arizona man. what he did to get back at his wife for stepping out. old man winter is stretching out across the u.s. a look at the morning and the wicked winter blast and how it could affect you on this friday, january 13th. good morning, maryland, and as we said, wet weather is going to be the big story. it's cold and it's wet and it could be changing throughout the course of the day. so let's get to meteorologist justin berk with what you can expect as you get started on this friday. >> he can peck wind and -- expect wind and cold. some had the expectation including myself west and northside of the beltway would get a dusting. that's northern section of carroll county. parts of harford and we have that on the ground in york county and temperatures 20s to mid-30s and 37 degrees 41-mile- per-hour wind gusts is in baltimore city. 53 on high mountains. and essentially across the area we have cooled things down and we are sitting near the freezing mark from bel air snowflakes have pulled to your

east and it's 30 in westminster and manchester 27 and yes it's a coating of snow on the ground. here maryland's most powerful doppler radar. precip last batch with snow and we had snow to the north and this thing pulls out and the timing worked out and there's not much to speak of to look at on the ground. a lot of snow on back towards the west. and not for us so we will watch the mountains get it. watch the ohio valley crank up and around the same storm. and we crank up a wind advisory gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour and temperatures staying in the 30s. hold on to the wheel of both hands and you will need that check on traffic with angela. >> reporter: thank you. and good morning. on the roadways wet and windy but moth too many delays to report so far especially on the key routes make your way into downtown 295 the bw parkway moving well northbound as well as 395. here's a look at i-95 making the drive past 175. starting to see flowing in the southbound direction from 175 over to route 198. and here's 695 your trip around

the beltway from 795 to baltimore national pike. and remains calm and if you are traveling on u.s. 50 we are just east of the bay bridge right here. we tib to have strong wind warnings on the chesapeake bay bridge. charley over to you. >> after a mild start to january, severe winter weather is bearing down on a huge part of the country. and we have details. >> reporter: the first major winter storm. >> reporter: ed in. across midwest cold air and blowing snow make conditions miserable from colorado to kentucky roads are a slick icy mess n greenfield wisconsin snow brought the evening commute to a standstill. gusty winds are causing snow to blow and drift. the weather is blamed for at least two deaths in iowa. and chicago this morning is under a winter storm warning. they are expecting a wind keeled near zero and up to 6 inches of snow. >> shovel it out and lay down the salt and hope it goes away

by monday. >> reporter: at the city's airports, hundreds of flights were canceled. the weather the past few months has been unseasonably warm. take chicago, the city gets about 14 inches of snow by this time of year. this winter, only 1.7 inches. for weeks, arctic air has been kept far north by the jet stream. but it's finally come down south. >> the snow, it's pretty. it hasn't been on the ground long enough to have an effect on me yet. >> reporter: the storm is moving from the midwest through the great lakes with the eyes set on new england where they could see up to a foot of snow starting today. abc news, washington. >> and headlines around the nation this morning, cell phone video sparking controversy out of southern california. police in los angeles county were responding to 5911 call about an aggressive bus spas jer -- passenger what deputy elbowed a mentally ill woman right there. >> next thing i know she calls one of the deputies a big shot and he reaches back and hits

her in the face. >> according to the authorities the woman had hit law enforcement officers before in the past. and this incident is currently being investigated. seven people face charges after an all out brawl in a courthouse in atlanta. witnesses say two families got into an argument and fists began to fly. fight as you expect, and as you can see was call on surveillance video. >> families of the victim walked past and turned back around and just attacked us. they attacked us and they started beating us and we are screaming security, security. >> deputies rushed to the hallway and stopped the fight. all right. stop eating and put down the coffee. this is your story of the day. this is coming through us out of arizona. a husband there got very upset when the estranged wife after admitting to constant affairs and called the police. dave banks says he is staying in the marriage because of the couple's two boys. but he learned through glendale

bengals tune a hazy shade of winter. i have a picture with snow on the ground from northern carroll county. stephen sent it in. rain is ending and snow showers happened but any icing we have got that west it was on target and the only difference is if you see the coating west a north of the beltway. and we have a wind advisory today. that's the major issue. 40 to 50-mile-per-hour gusts. woodbine and western howard county 28a steady wind flow of 10 to 20 miles per hour and winds gusting at 37 miles per hour. what a blustery morning. we have had the push through and it's cleared out and snow left in the mountains and we have a blustery day and we are stuck in the 30s and maybe an afternoon flurry west and north. but it's not that wind pushing 40 to 50 miles per hour. that will bounce you around and some ice on the ground. here's angela with more on that. >> reporter: thank you. and good morning a. as you mentioned we have icy conditions reported and want to note this is the second incident we have had reported in that mount airy eldersburg

area. slow traffic is on 26 liberty road behind a collision as you approach woodbine road. so again extra caution especially traveling in that region. here live look at 59 and maryland 175. no delays to report here but as we look at 95 and maryland 43, slow traffic in the southbound direction. making your way to the 895 split. charley. if you are about to head out for work or school you might want to give yourself extra time. linda so live this morning in hunt valley with a check of the road conditions. linda what's going on out there. >> reporter: first, let's talk about the wind. in the last couple minute it picked up. look at the flags and they are whipping in the wind and you can see the trees blowing as well. it's cold this morning so if youhave to head out and your kids have to go to the bus stop make sure they are wearing lots of heavy clothes. it's cold. look at roads. we had rain overnight and about 5:30 we had a short burst of some flurries in the hunt valley area. this is shawan off the 83 exit.

folks in the health department are going to be at george washington elementary answering questions. this after three students at the bolt my city school came down with scarlet fever. they were all in the same class and city says they have cleaned and disinfected the school. a school closing at havre de grace elementary school in havre de grace will be closed today for students only. teacher should report as usual. apparently there's a strong smell in the school from pipe and crawl space cleaning and the work that had to be done this week and they are taking a day to let the building air out. tomorrow baltimore middle school students are competing to build the city of the future at baltimore museum of industry. saturday showing off table top model. winning team represents baltimore next month at future city national finals in virginia. the theme this year is how cities can meet energy needs maintaining a healthy planet. the stadium is ready for the ravens first lay of --

playoff game since 2007. 71,000 seats will be filled but the vast majority will be ravens fans but what may surprise you is many fans have been giving up the tickets. president of sports ticket in timonium says after all the years to watch the home team in playoff setting at home some fans are turning tickets away. >> our dynamic has been more ravens season ticket holders selling into the market and texans fans buying them back out. >> i am talking to baltimore people that are selling tickets more than anything. >> so you need more proof asks our produce here got tickets last night or go online more than 1500 tickets now available at stub hub more than a thousand available on craigslist and 500 up for sale on ebay. after it became clear the ravens will not play pittsburgh, thousands of tickets became available. you can get ready to see a sea of purposeel across baltimore throughout the day and the weekend. the city is simply electric.

it's about the wind that wraps in behind and watching the upper level winds looks like snow showers could be clipping tawnytown and hampstead and manchester. watch flurries still on the north side this morning. and accumulations stickage not going to happen. but we will watch the stuff and some would envy as it cranks up heavy snow north of state college through central new york and they are going to get clobbered. syracuse almost 3 feet below normal with snowfall. snow wraps through ohio and that's the big story and the same storm you can see the pictures about good morning america a wind advisory. we are stuck in and out of theclouds passing flurries and we will do another disturbance heading through sunday and that could bring some snow showers for the ravens game. today it is about that wind and we are stuck in the 30s and gusts to 45 and 50 miles per hour and wind chills teens and 20s. 25 overnight. ravens game is expecting flakes out there. and if you going bundle up and temps mid-30ans cooler and at least it's good news because the texans are a warm weather
