he snapped. >> reporter: but did he? the harford county said they responded to the richardson household 16 times in the past years but nonfor domestic abuse or violence. many of it involved the 16-year-old disappearing but returning home safe and unharmed. still, abuse may be hashed out at trial. today the teen waived his right to a preliminary hearing. it was full of a courtroom of mothers emergencying support for a child they believe is a victim rather than a murderer. >> we think he fell through the cracks. they should have yanked him from the house and put him in a better environment. >> reporter: there were some

family members. richardson's sister did tell us she would, quote, fight for her brother until he is free. brian kuebler, abc2 news. a memorial pays tribute to popular wbal radio host ron smith. smith was known as the voice of reason for many years and died last month after a battle with pancreatic cancer. the airman was killed by an explosive device on january 5th. funeral services were held in sidler. the 24-year-old was buried at arlington national cemetery. well, the day started out rainy and gloomy. now the sun is setting and the temperatures have warmed up just a bit. what can we expect for the rest

>> i hear like a thunder. i thought someone was trying to break in the house. i run to the door to see if i can lock it and i see this red hue under my door. i said oh, my god. the house is on fire. >> fortunately, shes not hurt. there's no word on what started the fire. in howard county fire ripped through an ellicott city city. it was on meadow road and this heavily damaged the house next door. roosevelt leftwich joins us with more. >> reporter: when firefighters got to the scene just after 1:00, they immediately pulled the second alarm. the fire was moving very, very quickly. the brightly colored christmas decorations stood in stark contrast to what was left on

middle meadow road. they said they were awakened in the middle of the night by a loud noise and then there were several more. >> i noticed the garage was engulfed in flames. so apparently something had ignited, and it just took off. >> i asked what happened. he said the neighbor's house was on fire. >> reporter: the house was so involved that the fire started melting the siding on the house near it. >> dealing with the different gases that could be involved, oil and so forth and also trying to combat the flames. when they got there, there was heavy fire, heavy smoke. >> at this point firefighters don't know what touched off the

the eastern shore will stay generally rain free the next several hours. as we look at federal him and the mighty ravens logo. temperatures 57. winds southwest at 15 miles an hour. it's a warm breeze but a gusty one, no question about that. as we take a look at our weather, from damascus wet roads, the rain pounding us early this morning. midday sunshine to dry things out. new clouds begin to blow out of the west. same deal in middle town with plenty of sunshine after the morning rain. one last stop. imesville. so that's how things are playing out. don't look for new rain to come. temperature wise 40s and 50s, mid to upper 50s. you have to get out into far western maryland. most of us sitting well into the

50s, near 60 now. ocean city and patuxent river. winds from the south, southwest. that's a warming breeze. gusting to more than 30 in oakland, more than 25 in dulles. you got idea it's a breezy night. we did top out at 60, 20 degrees above average. will it hold up all week, the answer is no. we'll see a sea saw -- see saw ride. i think most of this rain will miss us to the south, an issue for virginia, not so much for maryland. across the east coast, we can see an unsettled pattern but one that's beginning to calm down at least across the baltimore area. there are snows well north of us where the cold air is available. that will not get into maryland until the morning hours, early
