that's what's making news in america this morni you're watching the station that works for you "good morning maryland" at 4:30. the video this morning a 6- year-old left home alone for an hour and a half while the smoke alarm went off and what she was found doing when people arrived. and new leads in the case of a teen found dead in boughtmore three years ago -- baltimore three years ago. and it's an age old tradition surrounding edgar allen poe. but the question is, will the poe toaster show up this year. i am sherrie johnson and i will have the story coming up. thursday, january 19th. good morning i am charley crowson. we begin with the weather alert a code blue advisory has been issued due to the cold and frigid temperatures outside. we are sitting at 25 degrees and that's dangerously cold on

this thursday morning. so let's check in for a check of the forecast and say good morning to meteorologist lynette charles. >> good morning. it is very cold outside but luckily we are not contending with the winds. check out headlights. bright start but you don't like the but and you know something is going to happening. cloud on the increase going throughout the day. scattered flurries are possible tonight and i am thinking mainly to the north. so the northern counties could get a couple flurries and we will see and feel some colder air invading us and snow and rain making in going into the weekend. as we check out what's going on in terms of temperatures. 21 in perry hall. like i said, thank goodness the winds are not kicking up because it's feeling cold bur not too bad in terms of the wind. but make sure you have your heavy coat because you will feel it throughout the morning. angela has traffic. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the first look at the roads this morning off to a pretty good start for the most part.

we have an incident on i-95 traveling through the city southbound at lacoma a disabled vehicle. otherwise make your way through the tunnels shouldn't be a problem even with overnight maintenance. let's get our first live look at traffic flow. we are on a u.s. 29 at the clarksville park north and southbound lanes opened. here's u.s. 50 at sandy point. authorities say we have a salting operation on 50 at the chesapeake bay bridge so be prepared for some possible slowdowns there. otherwise it should be no troubles getting around in that vicinity as well. follow us this morning we are on twitter at maryland traffic. charley over to you. good morning. >> good morning. it's 4:32 and all new video this morning. the parents of a bethesda child under fire after leek her home alone for an hour and a half. the 6-year-old was reportedly trying to make toast when smoke filled the home thus the smock alarm going off. -- smoke alarm going off the child got a neighbor who called

police. a neighbor of a teen found dead will speak out. for a preview let's go over to linda so. >> reporter: we have learned the parents of apedy mc-- will hold a press conference and say there's a new investigative lead in the case their daughter was found dead behind a dumpster in november of 2008. she was 16 and had had run away from home in fairfax county, virginia. an autopsy revealed she died from poisoning by lied cane. police ruled the death a suicide but her parents never accepted that. police found her car a few blocks away and caught up with the people who stole it. a new twist a couple months ago. one of the suspects who stole her car confessed to killing another woman and stealing her car. and anne's parents say they had a promising meeting with the head of the city homicide department and say they have got new insight from the state's attorney's office. we will talk about all of this at the press conference at one

this afternoon. we will let you know what happens on air and online. police are asking for your help finding a bank robber. man is accused of roping the pnc bank tuesday afternoon in carroll county. it's on west liberty road in sykesville. investigators think he may be connected to other robberies taking place in two additional counties. the howard county -- to howard county where police are waiting to talk to a columbia woman in connection with the 40 animal deaths. national aquarium in baltimore said a person of interest in the case used to work for them. about half of the animals found in the house were in a freezer. the four that survived didn't have access to food, water or any heat. and another investigation involving the richardson family who burglar eyed their home. the 16-year-old robert richardson has been charged with his father's murder and the houseer with lived has been burglarized. 550 people so far joined a facebook group rallying for

support for robert richardson who some say was abuse and that led to the violence. the police say they don't have proof of that. more than 1500 dollars has been raised to help pay for him a private attorney. it could happen at any moment. emfans are waiting to see if the poe toasters will arrive with his roses and conyeah. sherrie johnson is live and you are part of the group. and people are saying if he is a no show this year the tradition may be over. >> reporter: that is exactly right. that's what we are waiting to see. we are here near the grave site area of edgar allen poe, the poe toaster has been a faithful visitor for decades and you know what, he usually shows up anywhere between midnight and 5:30 a.m. this morning, we have a few people that are out here. they have been out here since midnight faithful followers. you can see them lined up speaking through the gates there trying to see if we can

see anything. but last year, and a couple years, he's been a no show. this year we are still waiting to see if he turns up. again, we have until 5:30 but so far, he's been a no show this morning. but there have been about 3 impostors i am told by the curator. the poe toaster has paid a visit to poe's grave in honor of the write are's birthday, which is -- writer's birthday which is today. he he leaves and conyeah and fans gather to honor his birthday. we have fred joining us from bowie and tell me, why do you come out every year? >> i am really not certain. it's just intriguing. i saw the original poe toaster twice. >> reporter: wow you saw him and i understand he is so sneaky but you got to see him. >> running away. >> reporter: now tell me. talking about if he doesn't show up tonight, this could be the last one, the last vigil. >> well, i guess that's jeff's

now "good morning maryland" at 4:30. and welcome back on this thursday morning. more money for states affected by natural disasters coming this year. the usda made the announcement yesterday. more than 300 million will be added to the department of transportation. maryland will receive more than $7.5 from that fund. but the state will not get more money other states -- $7.5 million from that fund. but the state will not get anymore money. toc cay lose cay tornado is getting 6 million as well.

against jerry sandusky. theyth the board is scheduled to hear presentations-- the board is scheduled to hear a presentation of the overview. tsa is not commenting on why the people failed to keep a deadly weapon off an airplane in dallas texas. a 65-year-old woman got past a security checkpoint and on a plane in texas with a gun. her attorney says she carries that weapon for protection because she works late at night. through her attorney she said it was a total mistake and she forgot the gun was in the purse. she is facing a felony charge. and a georgia mother is facing charges after allowing her 10-year-old to get a tattoo. here's why. the woman's son died and the brother of the older son wanted to remember him by getting the proper's jersey number -- brother's jersey number on his arm. someone at school call it and called police and the police have investigating the tattoo artist. check out this video a tree so big in oregon 60 feet tall

now "good morning maryland" at 4:30. just learned in the past hour there's a 12 to 24 hour window left for search crews to find possible survivors before the-- aboard the italian cruise ship. they resumed the searchs.

21 people remain missing including an american couple. the captain of the ship claims that the reason he ended up on the lifeboat get this, he tripped and fell into the boat. he remains under house arrest this morning. we are getting a better look at a wrecked cargo ship off the coast of new zealand. it ran aground in october but held together until last weekend when it began to break in two. it is highly unstable make for adangerous recovery. the decomposing food and cow hides are -- the company plans to send a full squadron of 12 colorful miniature drones to the white house. iran said the country's armed forces downed the highly sophisticated drone and they said they did it in december. there's a way to entertain visitors at a chinese zoo. experienced divers perform a
